I’m in this practice and considering a switch to the Women’s Health Alliance at Duke Regional Hospital for two reasons: 1) They offered me a planned c-section, 2) They suggested induction at 40 weeks. One of the first midwives I saw suggested a planned c-section in order to avoid perineal trauma.(I had a 3rd degree tear with my first pregnancy.) When I complained at a later appointment about being offered a c-section, the second midwife concurred that a planned c-section might be advisable. She also recommended induction at 40 weeks to avoid the increased risk of stillbirth associated with advanced maternal age. While surprising, this would have been okay if she had not given me patently false information: She said that the risk of a c-section brought on by a failed induction is «about the same» as the risk of stillbirth. I looked up the research and compared the statistics on these two negative birth outcomes, and that simply isn’t true.

I have been going to the UNC Midwives at Timberlyne location for about 5 months now. The location is easy to access off the 40 freeway, and easy to find. I like that the clinic is small and you don’t have to worry about parking like you do at the main UNC hospital. The staff is friend and the midwives are really personable as well. I initially had some difficulty getting set up with prenatal appointments because I moved from CA and had to wait several weeks before my medical history could be transferred and reviewed. However, once I was set up and in the system it was easy to schedule appointments and get going on my pregnancy schedule. I recommend this location to other pregnant women who want a more intimate, private atmosphere and care, and the ability to change appointments easily when needed, without much hassle.
