Charleston Distilling Co

Took a tour and had a tasting here and had a great time. The distillery is really cool and set up in a very clean and pretty way. The tour guide had no problems explaining their process and answering all of our questions. After the tour, we tasted their different liquors (bourbon aged gin was the best). Overall it was a ton of fun.

I had the opportunity to visit the Charleston Distillery twice during my visit in two different capacities so I was very lucky.
My first visit was the regular off the street visit. I came for the distillery tour. For $ 10, I got a short tour of the distillery and an explanation of each step of the process. The day I visited, they were doing gin. The smell definitely permeated the entire place.
After the tour we got to sample a few of the products that they make there.

King Charles Vodka
Carolina Reaper Vodka
Tolerance Liqueur
Calhoun’s Rye
They were all pretty good. I am typically not a fan of gin, but I think in a cocktail it would blend really nicely. The Tolerance liqueur was the big surprise as it is a pretty high proof for a liqueur and has hints of whiskey, cinnamon and ginger flavors.
I personally wasn’t a fan of the Reaper vodka, but it was because I do not like my drinks spicy. It probably would be delicious in a Bloody Mary or if you substituted vodka for tequila in a margarita. Again, I do not like spicy in my drinks, but it did have some good flavor to it. The rye was also pretty smooth and easy to drink. They said that in a few more years they will have some bourbon on the menu as well.
I do not get to visit or take distillery tours too often so it was unique. The tour itself was a little short, but the tasting definitely seemed to justify the cost.
My second visit was for a private event. The venue was rented out and a caterer brought in. They did try to incorporate the distillery’s gin and vodka offerings but they definitely have more. The mixologists on hand crafted each cocktail with care and were met with a lot of «ok make me something with vodka or whisky» and they would make a new tasty concoction each time.
Tristan Catering & Events provided the bites. They had a shrimp small dish that was quite tasty.

For $ 7 per person, we got an interesting and informed tour and a tasting of 5 of their liquors (more alcohol than you’d get for that price at any bar in town.) Their vodka is exceptional — and this from someone who doesn’t like standard vodka. They also have a great bourbon barrel gin, a delicious cinnamon ginger liqueur, and a hot pepper vodka. The real star was the Jasper’s gin — the aromatics they use give it so much subtle flavor. We ended up purchasing a bottle to take home with us (complete with a great reusable bag they gave us to put it in). Outstanding.

$ 7 tour and 4 shots at the end! I came in with a friend at 4pm on a Thursday. We were the only ones on the tour and the guide was able to answer every crazy question we had. The tour lasted about 30 – 35 minutes. 4 samples at the end and good conversation with our guide for 15 minutes. The only downside is that there are no chasers or mixers and you can only purchase bottles. That is not their fault though and simple SC state law. Recommend it to anyone!

This was a great find during our getaway to Charleston! We enjoyed the very informative tour and the tasting of the vodka and gins was great! I don’t typically care for unmixed vodka and gin, but these tasted so smooth, I wouldn’t mind drinking them by themselves! We left with some Distilling Co. clothing and bottles to take home with us. Great work, guys! We can’t wait to stop by in a few years to see what other great recipes you make!

We took a tour guided by the head distiller himself, Michael. He was entertaining, educational, and a pleasure to meet. The liquor they produce is beyond measure — I’ve never had vodka so smooth before. Also, their Tolerance white whiskey liqueur is to die for. It’s an unbeatable price and less than an hour, so it won’t destroy your day or budget. As an aside, Michael is pretty easy on the eyes. If my friend were to move down here and start dating him I wouldn’t mind visiting again…

Great tour and learned how liquor is made. Super friendly guide. Affordable. Good tasting — especially if you like gin.

Amazing place, great tour, and the best vodka you’ve tasted!

Annalese was the sh*t! We were late for our tour but she gave us the shorten version. She was super informative. The liquors were also amazing. Don’t waste your time with high wire.

Well, I hate liquor but went with friends who were visiting. The info on the tour was interesting and our guide was great. All liquor is no bueno for me but everyone didn’t seem terribly impressed. They are new so I am sure they will keep getting better

Came in just to browse while visiting Charleston a couple of weeks ago. I had thought to pick up a bottle of spirits as a souvenir for hubby back home but ultimately decided it was too much of a pain with only a carry-​on sized suitcase. The staff was warm and friendly and I liked the interior space– light and airy. We were going to try and return for a distillery tour, held every hour on the hour M-​Sat from 11am until 7pm but due to our packed itinerary were not able to make it.
I definitely hope to return once this fledgling business has a few more years of experience and products types under their belt. LOVE the idea of «handmade small-​batch craft spirits» and really look forward to supporting :)

Incredible building, great product and excellent your. Be sure to make a reservation or they will likely be booked before you arrive. Very knowledgeable staff and superior product, especially the Gin. Deliciousness! The space is also available for private events– would love to have a cocktail party here! Big win for charleston and excellent location. Highly recommend!

Took the tour today with Carlton and had a great time. It was fun to hear about how they make their vodka, gin and whiskey. The interior of this place is really cool and it is a fun way to kill some time in Charleston. They seem to still be inventing new recipes, so stop by and try their latest concoctions.

I am not a big vodka guy by any means but i found the tour to be very informational and the place is just beautiful. We stopped in for an afternoon tour and could not get over the décor but i guess what it comes down to is what they make, vodka.
The tour was very informative and gave us a nice and comedic overview of how their vodka and gin are made. I thought the vodka was just ok. The gin was better but what I liked most was their new addition which was a cordial whose name is escaping my mind for the moment.
Either way it was a fun tour and a great thing to do if you’re in the area but I wouldn’t go out of my way to seek it.

The four is us popped in mid afternoon for a tour. One of the owners showed us around the building. Hand made machines from Germany. So pretty! I don’t drink or know much about liquor so it was really interesting to me. They hand package and label very bottle. There was a packaging table in the back. These two labels were made from a local artist– really cool I really liked the labels. He let us whiff a batch of concentrated liquor that was waiting to get its label approved for resale. Just cool atmosphere. We sampled their vodka, two gins, and tolerance (that potent non resellable alcohol). Everything was really smooth. You can actually sip on the vodka without the harsh burning feeling. Although I don’t drink much, my fave was Tolerance. It has strong flavors but not to the point that it’s syrupy and overbearing. He said this was their take on a fireball type liquor. Very good! 30 $ a bottle and 3/​person with the tour. If I drank liquor I def would have gotten the vodka or waited for Tolerance to be sold. Good quality craft liquor. I really hope they do well!

This was a cool place and the tour was very informative. It is hard to comment on the liquor tastings since I don’t typically drink liquor straight (not mixed with something else) to compare to other liquors.

This is a really cool place that I’ll definitely be revisiting… and soon.
A great atmosphere with a creative edge to it that really adds to the theme of the location. The bathrooms are giant oak distillery barrels! You have to love unique touches like that… they really bring out the «cool» in a place.
I’ll update this review more after my next visit… and after I’ve indulged in what they have to offer more. But for now, definitely recommend stopping in!

If you were to ever look through all my reviews (i don’t recommend it), you’d see VERY few reviews where i’m unsure how to rate the place, this is one of them. Do you rate the place and the overall experience, or do you rate the product, sometimes this is a real dilemma.
The place is really cool, really nice to look at, welcoming, etc etc, nothing bad on that end. The reason this place only gets 3 stars and not 4, is because of the tastings. Honestly, i’ve had a LOT better, yes, it’s a distillery, still in their growing stage (they just got their label license for one of the cordials the day we were there). The vodka was harsh, too harsh. The gin was decent, but too sharp. The cordial, the best of the three tastings, had a really bad lingering taste.
I hope this place the best, I really do, and look forward (in years) to some of the barrel aged stuff to taste, and would probably come back if I was in the area, but i would not go out of my way to stop in.

Wow, literally can’t say enough good things about this place. Took their tour today with Carlton and he was awesome. Funny, entertaining, smart, and informative. Afterwards the tasting was served by Lindsay who was also just a ball of fun. The liquor is amazing. Smooth, flavorful, and just outright well done. Better than most high end liquors I’ve had. We brought home a vodka and gin plus some shot glasses.
Everyone we came across from Carlton to Lindsay and Allison were all just awesome amazing people. Funny personable and you can tell they honesty love what they do an serving it to the people of Charleston. They’ll be around for a while but I’d recommend going ASAP!

If you are in Charleston, I recommend supporting this local distilling company. We went in and took a tour, learning how the liquor is made. I enjoyed it thoroughly and learned a lot. It is quite the process!
We then did tastings! Since the process of making liquor can take years, they only had a few things. (I *will* be back in 2 years to taste the bourbon!!)
First: We had the vodka. Smoothest vodka ever! It was absolutely delicious. I will be purchasing a bottle for cocktails to make at home.
Second: The gin. I am not much of a gin drinker, but my husband said it was fantastic.
Third: Whiskey. Oh… this. What can I say. New favorite drink. The flavor… was out of this world. It was a bit thicker, but oh so delicious. I plan to purchase a few bottles (when they become available– soon!) to use for cooking. I plan to use it as syrup in french toast casserole as well as bring a few bottles home for Thanksgiving. It is the perfect «fall» drink.
