I wish my experience had been as successful as Kathryn’s. Back in November, I used this company to engrave our wedding monogram onto my husband’s pocket watch I gave him the day we were married. I was doing it for our anniversary, because I was ill most of the first year we were married. Charleston Engravers never warned me, that because his watch was plated, there was a strong possibility it would chip it off where they were engraving, It was an «intricate monogram». .. so they said after they ruined it. If they had warned us properly, we would have NEVER had it engraved, as it’s obviously very sentimental to us. I gave my husband this gift because I wanted him to be able carry it for the rest of his life on special occasions. I am still devastated over this. It’s ruined and looks terrible now. It was my one and only gift to my husband that day. I will say they did a decent job on the silver tie bar and cuff links. I just wish they would have reviewed my husband’s watch more carefully before they placed it in the engraver. Everyone there should have enough knowledge and integrity to do that much for their customers and most definitely should be more responsible in warning customers when they think it’s a bad idea. Instead the young woman with the short, dark hair, waved the contract I signed the day I dropped all three items off, in front of my face, when I went in to pick them up. To add insult to injury, they also had the audacity to charge me for it. I couldn’t believe it. I only paid it with the understanding that the female manager was going to call me back because the young woman said she didn’t have the authority to take the charge for the watch off my card. I was told she would call me back the next day. She never bothered to get in touch with me. That was the second chance I gave them to right this wrong and they blew it. NOT that they could have done anything to actually make it up, but to actually bill us was infuriating. To make us pay for a watch they ruined is ludicrous. I will never do business with them again, and will most certainly warn everyone I know in Charleston, to take their business elsewhere. I’m a business communication professor and I am still amazed that businesses don’t take their customer service more seriously, particularly in a day and age where people can share their negative experiences to the entire world and greatly affect their profits in the long run. If you can’t trust the the company employees to know what they are dealing with, they shouldn’t be doing this kind of work involving people’s cherished items. That large chip on the front of his watch will always remind us of how they not only ruined it, but also made us pay for their mistake, too. Unbelievable.
