Was excited to check it out. They were already out of most things, poor planning for a grand opening, especially their first in the state! They want you to order everything online, if I had known this, there would have been no need to visit the store. I had downloaded a coupon on my phone, they would not honor it because they said a disgruntled employee had actually posted it unauthorized … My fault? Then the manager that was called to solve(or not) my coupon dilemma, came over and rudely shooed away, the sweet associate that was ringing me up. She did not honor my coupon; ok, fine I had to deal with that, but apparently she did not think I even deserved to be given the merchandise that I had payed for. I get home and she has left half of my merchandise out of my bag, that I had been charged for, Northface isn’t cheap! So I call, speak with this manager, she locates my merchandise still out on the counter, tells me she will bag it up for me and put it in the office, and when I come in I can ask for it, and I kid you not she says, «and hopefully they get the right bag.» I say, you’re making me nervous about this and am I really going to be able to get my merchandise? She responds by telling me all their woes, no training, thrown to the wolves etc. The manager has a lot to learn, in this situation if she had not dismissed the associate who was already assisting me, I would not now have to drive back to the store to retrieve my merchandise; because the associate would’ve known what I had purchased. I will be kind and leave the Managers name off this review.

Shabby camping selection, very limited footwear section, average clothing selection. Always feels like going out of business sale is immanent. Very large gun selection, small selection of product unless you’re buying a firearm. Service is alright, Management is terrible.

Now that the fancy new Cabela’s has opened, literally just across the parking lot, there is an above-average change that this Gander Mountain won’t last long. It’s like watching the mom-and-pop bookstore in «You’ve Got Mail» fight for it’s life. Except this particular Gander Mountain is already pretty bad. The store is large by almost any measure, and the offerings are fairly meager, so that when you walk in, it seems that they have already had their fire sale in anticipation of the going-out-of-business sale that is inevitable in the near future. On the plus side, the staff here is really friendly — especially at the gun counter in the back. There, they are even better(way better, in fact) than at Cabela’s.

Usually go there for this and that when it comes to sportsman stuff. Was planning on buying an outdoor fireplace from them and was informed that they do not carry them anymore. Oh well, Cabela’s got my business. Could this be natural selection in play?
