What can be said for a park that was named after one of the most caring members of the Charleston Community. Hazel Parker passed away in February, 2011, but her legacy lives on right on East Bay Street. Why is this a perfect place to frolic? 1. A playground where your imagination can run wild. Swings, play jeep, things to climb and a butt ride that spins. Ok, we have the kids covered. 2. Tennis, basketball and baseball fields. Athletics covered. 3. Fenced in dog fun play time area. Four legged friends covered. 4. Location, location, location. Right on the cusp of East Bay and The Battery and a hop, skip and jump from Waterfront Park. I think we nailed it. For a bonus!!! 5. Parking!!! Yes free park parking downtown.

I would call this a hidden gem tucked away in beautiful downtown Charleston. Hazel Parker Playground not only has a playground, but also has a tennis court, a basketball court, a baseball field, and an open area to run around in next to it. As for the playground, there are two. They are separated into something for the littler ones and something for the bigger ones. The little ones have a rather large enclosed area with a couple of climbing activities, a swing set, and a really cool jeep to drive. The bigger ones also have something to climb on, across, and all over the place. There is also one of those really cool new school merry-go-rounds. There are lots of benches and picnic tables in the shade. They also have water fountains, and even one for the doggies. Of course my little guy thought it was for him! Attached to the park is an enclosed dog park too. You can also have your dog in the playground part. The best part about Hazel Parker Playground is that they have free parking! There aren’t many spaces, buy every time we have gone there has been a space. SO nice! The playground is always clean and rather quiet. A lovely place to spend an afternoon!

What a great find. The kids had so much fun playing today. It’s within walking distance of waterfront park. They also have a dog park. What a great place.
