I would give this place a slightly higher rating but the price for a simple pedicure was way too high. I should have asked before I agreed to the service but I haven’t, in an actual spa chair in NYC paid such a price for just a pedicure. The woman who did my pedicure was friendly and the polish looks great but it was just way overpriced considering it was a very basic pedicure using a portable foot bath and nothing extra. Like I said, I should have asked for the price but just beware before you go. It was over $ 50 with tip and I suffered from sticker shock — basically over $ 5/toe when you look at it that way. I was in a big hurry to leave so just paid and left. Thank goodness I didn’t have time for a manicure!

Every time I go in there I spend a TON of money and time and end up leaving with a disaster that I have to go back in and have fixed. Last time I spent over $ 600 on extensions and left the salon with short hair in the front and long hair in the back – kind of like a mullet – because my stylist ordered two different lengths of extensions. It looked RIDICULOUS. I had to walk around like that for a week so that she could order longer pieces to put in the front, but I figured it was an honest mistake, so I went back to her again. This time I went in to have my extensions REMOVED(a whopping $ 90!!!), and decided to try something new for my hair color. After consulting with my stylist, Becky, I chose a pastel pink that she recommended and I thought would be very pretty. After 5 long hours of bleaching my hair to strip it of its color, she finally was able to put the pink color on and I was excited. When she rinsed it out, however, my hair was NOT pink! It was basically a pink-tinged yellowy-white. She was totally confused. She told me she was going to have to have a pow-wow with the other stylists to figure out how to fix it, and that I would have to come back the next morning. So I went home not too happy having just spent $ 195 for a total atrocity, but relieved it would be fixed the next day. So I returned the next morning. She said she figured out how to fix my hair, so after two hours she was done and my hair was indeed PINK. I asked her how much I owed her and she charged me another $ 15 for the hair color!!! This was after I gave her a $ 50 tip for the mess she made of my hair the previous day! But I gave her the money, gave her ANOTHER $ 10 tip for her time, and went on my way glad that it was finally over. So today I took a shower(she did not tell me to wait to shower, just said I might see a little bit of pink rinse down the drain). After I got out and dried my hair it looked TERRIBLE. Not only did some pink rinse down the drain, but a LOT of it rinsed right out of my hair! ONE day later and I am left with a totally botched color job and over $ 200 out of my pocket and I’m going to now have to go pay someone else to fix it because there is no way in hell I am going back there again! Needless to say, I DONOTRECOMMEND, you WILL get ripped off!!!

Lynn — owner and top lady at Whispers — is amazing. She has done my hair for several years since I moved to Charleston from NYC and has always gone above and beyond to help me define what I want and execute it perfectly. Lynn has also been beyond sympathetic when, following a long trip caring for my very ill mother, I STUPIDLY went to another salon last minute for root touch ups since Whispers was booked — and my color and hair health were absolutely ruined. Lynn quickly found a beautiful solution, and Whispers sympathized with me instead of being rude about me going elsewhere and ruining my hair and their work. Bottom line– great salon, service, personal, results and absolute commitment to client satisfaction. They’ve been here for years for a reason!

If you go to Whispers you must see Heather. I’ve been going to Heather for years(even though she’s new to Whispers) and she is well worth it! Every cut I’ve had has been fabulous and sleek and they grow out so well. She’s a master with color– I’ve been a variety of reds and blondes and each one she has done is so beautiful. I’m currently a strawberry blonde with a few blonde peekaboo highlights and it is the perfect look for summer. She is professional and kind and the quality of her cuts and colors cannot compare to anyone else I have seen. I highly recommend going to Whispers and asking for Heather.

Excellent! This is the sum of all my experiences at «Whispers.» I am a long time client of seven years and nothing in town can beat Whispers when it comes to customer service, loyalty, and the quality of the work. When you walk in the door you are greeted by a very modern salon and the friendliest receptionist/admin – regardless of who’s working– I’ve ever had greet me. As you return time and again, which if you’re a local or frequent visitor looking for quality service you will, everyone will quickly come to know your name. All of the girls and occasional guy are awesome and deliver from the word go. This is the place to go if you want quality cuts, coloring, waxing, and more. They deliver every time and if something goes wrong they will do everything possible to fix it. Becky is my go to girl, but I’m sure every stylist will work hard to meet your needs and go beyond your expectations. For those concerned about costs – this is downtown Charleston and cost for services is on par with many large cities. Keep in mind home in the vicinity are in the 3 to 7 million range. Having said that, due to quality of service I say it is well worth it!

The girl that was supposed to cut and color my hair called in sick and they recommended another girl that had been there 10 years. She was pleasant but this is the worst haircut and color I have ever had! And she charged over $ 200.00! Highly recommend you look elsewhere.

My friend scheduled mani/pedis for us at Whispers the day before her wedding, thinking it’d give us time for girl talk. Kathleen’s earlier review outlines precisely why this wasn’t possible — how disappointing. While the staff was friendly, the service was so not worth the time and money. Over two hours for two manicures and pedicures, and $ 140 total. I’m used to paying tons less for better quality nails! If I’d known how much they charge, I would’ve insisted we look elsewhere. My nails were unimpressive: crookedly-trimmed toenails, weirdly-shaped and too short fingernails, imperfect polish all around. Luckily the bride’s nails looked much better, which of course was the most important thing.

I was in town for business and needed a trim in July. So I Unilocaled Hair Salons near me and came across this gem. I had a great experience here with Rachel in July as she worked quickly and professionally to correct some uneven and grown out layers. The price was VERY reasonable for the cut and style. I have tons of long hair, so it’s always a challenge for hairstylists to finish in time. Naturally, when I was back here in November, I decided to revisit the salon. I ended up starting out with a hair cut and style from Katy on Tuesday morning. We added bangs and trimmed up my layers(Confession…it hadn’t been cut since my previous appointment here in July). Katy was great! Very detail oriented and took extra time to make sure everything was even and laid right. On the way out, I decided to book a full high light and eye brow wax with her later in the week. The front desk worked with me on scheduling around my odd work hours that week. Cue Thursday. I came in after work for a full highlight and Katy got right to work. She asked how I was liking my haircut. When I said the bangs just weren’t laying right, she spent the first 10 minutes of the appointment re-cutting and styling my bangs until they worked just right. Then she started on the highlighting. I usually just bleach highlights since I have naturally light hair, but Katy decided to weave two different shades of blond into my hair. She somehow managed to get my full head of hair high lighted in half the time of other salons and the overall color had incredible dimension to boot! After the highlight was complete, she took me in the back room for a brow wax. I like my eyebrows thick and nicely shaped and Katy followed the natural line of my brows to a t. They were perfect. She tweezed any stray hairs and trimmed up the longer ones. I left feeling more put together and attractive than I had in months. Katy even gave me some good restaurant advice on top of an afternoon of impeccable service. When it came time to pay my bill, I was preparing for the worst. After all, I’ve done the full highlight before and it ALWAYS hurts. I was SHOCKED. It was about 2/3rds of what I was used to paying and the end result was so far above average. I was a very happy customer. I would definitely recommend this salon to anyone in town or even just visiting.

I picked Whispers because I was looking for someone who specialized in crazy curly hair. Unilocal does not seem to be as big of a reviewing forum down south here as it is up North, but in looking — I found Whispers and requested Sabriam as the few reviews I saw were specific to her at Whispers AND the fact that she does curly hair well. She took her time with me and we had a really nice conversation as well. She paid attention to what my previous hair dresser had done and asked me questions as well. She was pushing product — but admittedly, they carry really good product and I bought some curl cream and I love it. What else I like was that she told me to play with my hair and let it settle = to make sure that I really liked it and if I did not like something or wanted her to do a re-trim for whatever reason, to please call and she would get me in right away. She also told me that if I did not like the product, I could return it for a refund. I don’t need a retrim or a refund, but I will be back once I need my hair done again! Very happy to have found a reasonably priced salon with parking near by right off King St. I already sent in a friend and got $ 10 off my next service! I am taking off one star because I rarely if ever give 5 stars — and she did run about 25 minutes late without coming over and saying — heyI Sorry I am running a little bit late… but really — no biggie because I had the last appointment of the evening and she was not in any hurry to get out so I did not feel rushed in any way. She is a talented hair dresser and I look forward to seeing her again!

This is a cute salon downtown. The aesthetician was very friendly, professional and did a good job. They also provide snacks and drinks which is nice. It is a little bit expensive, but most nice salons are!

Yowza. I thought DC mani/pedis were expensive! My sister and I came here for a little pre-wedding girlie bonding time. My mom had set us up with mani/pedis and we were excited to get some time to catch up, just the two of us. Unfortunately it didn’t happen. Whispers is definitely more of a hair salon that does nails on the side. They had one chair in a back room for pedicures, so my sister and I were split the entire time. The entire process took ridiculously long, over an hour and a half, because they had to sanitize the pedicure chair in between the two of us. There was a lot of sitting and waiting. In addition to all of this, they just weren’t that good. The ladies that helped us were incredibly nice, but my nails were already chipping just 2 days later. The whole salon felt a bit like Steel Magnolias(although I wish Truvy had actually been the one helping us!) and it appears they have a lot of regulars(none nearly as entertaining as Clairee or Ouiser). All in all, the $ 70 we spent on each mani/pedi seemed like a rip-off.
