We were here for a Charleston Fashion Week after party and it was great. A very spacious venue. Nice bathrooms. I wish I could tell you more about the actual venue, but the party was loads of fun and I just remember the atmosphere. The DJ was great, the drinks were great. The people were fun and super nice. I spilled a drink on the floor and it splashed on a friend. This really nice guy got us club soda to get out the stain. Just really nice. I think he cared about the garment because he was from the fashion community, but regardless NICE! The place is located very close to King Street and near lots of great restaurants too. Parking is pretty close and available on the street and lots. I liked it.

We saw«Hound of the Baskervilles» on Saturday PM by the The Village Repertory Company. It was billed as a A WACKYADAPTATIONOFTHECLASSICSIRARTHURCONANDOYLESTORY!” They used to perform in Mount Pleasant but recently re-located to downtown Charleston. The theater is an old(under renovation) warehouse. Beer, wine and softdrinks for sale — no food. It has round tables and fairly uncomfortable seats. Hopefully all this will be upgraded soon. The best part was the The Village Repertory Company. They were hilarious. Laugh out loud funny, their timing was perfect. I’d see anything by them again anywhere. Will try the Woolfe Street Playhouse again, but hopefully as they get settled will improve the seating. It is in a great area on upper King with lots of fine restaurants and bars too!

I am a season ticket holder and have found every play to be professional and delightful. The first play, «the Man Who Came to Dinner» had the audience in stitches. The building is a work in progress, relying a great deal on donations. They have made an innovative use of space and the seating is casual and intimate. I have taken friends to last year’s performances and we have all had a wonderful time.

The Village Rep started in Mt. Pleasant, though now have taken over a former meat packing factory. At first glance from the outside, you’re not sure if you’re in the right area for a playhouse. Also, there isn’t any signage other that the 34 on the building. The number is located next to the dressing room, go down a few doors & you’ll find the entrance. The work they have done to the space is phenomenal. It’s open, & allows for them to grow into it in the future. It had the lingering smell of fresh cut wood… that’s how new it was. In the women’s bathroom, the little touches like pipe fixtures for toilet roll holder is something I thought was innovative. For their inaugural open they performed The Man Who Came to Dinner. Great play though I think the performance was more community theater… there were a few actors who were better than others. Overall, I would visit again… mostly to see the transformation of the space & hope the performance is a little better.
