has this place changed hands? the last several take-out orders haven been marginal bordering on morose the fish n chips plate was horrible. the fish i ordered seemed like a 1989 filet they dug out of the corner deep freeze and the fries are the size of kindergarten crayons. same deal with a shrimp & scallop special recently. at $ 16.00 for 4 shrimp and 8 bay scallops, it was overpriced, the scallops tasted like erasers and the fries were big and undercooked. nevermind that the seafood is probably imported from asia. gave a 3 in hopes they improve,

Went for a walk on the beach in Charlestown and worked up an appetite and couldn’t find any place open for lunch.(So many things close for the winter.) Finally we found the Old MIll Diner. Conveniently located on a triangle piece of land in the middle of Rt 112, plenty of parking all around. The 4 stars are not because the food is so fabulous, It is typical diner food. The stars are because #1 it was open, #2 the service was very friendly and welcoming and timely, #3 the menu is very big and varied and you can have breakfast well into the afternoon, and #4 because 2 people could eat for less than $ 20. The french fries are huge and well cooked, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the way I like them. I asked for a hamburger topped with a fried egg, not on the menu, they said sure. My lunch partner had a turkey club and it was too much to eat in one sitting. She went home with an entire second meal. There is no décor or ambience. There are 8 tables. Grab one and try for yourself.

A tiny diner The Old Mill Diner is a tiny place that use to be called The Gentleman Farmer. The name changed but not much else and people that were here years ago would probably think it was the same place. Not much to the diner and at times it gets really crowded because there just isn’t very much space inside. Not a place to stretch out and relax and talk for hours over coffee. This is a eat your food, pay your bill and get the hell out and go do whatever it is you want to do type of place. That isn’t to mean that the people are rude or unfriendly, quite the contrary, everyone working here is extremely pleasant but in a humorous and country sort of way. Kind of like they are telling you to take your time, just don’t take to long about it. The food is just what you would expect from a diner like this, basic but tasty and filling. The prices are reasonable and they have a few picnic tables outside to use in the warmer weather. A cute little diner that has been around in one form or another for decades. Considering it’s location and amount regular customers it probably will be around for many decades to come.

We drove in late as they were closing and knocked on the«to go» window and we couldn’t have asked for a better meal and speedy service. We could have been turned away for ordering 15 min after closing but instead our order was taken cheerfully and our burgers and fresh fried seafood prepared quickly and served with a smile. The extra mayo, lemon and tarter sauce was perfect; the burgers were juicy, the fries crispy and hot; the fried scallops and fish were so fresh and cooked to perfection! We will make this a regular stop back home to CR after surfing in RI!

I am so excited to review this place that I’m still waiting at the table to pay my bill, it couldn’t wait. I got a #6 with a blueberry pancake, eggs over easy and sausage. Phenomenal flavor, quick friendly service and a charming atmosphere, I can’t wait to come back! Great place!

I enjoyed them. Definitely a local joint I’m terms of feel and those who eat there, which I don’t mind. The waitress I had was an older woman who was extremely welcoming and friendly. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon and hollandaise sauce… I didn’t like the Canadian bacon, but I apparently didn’t know Canadian bacon was ham slices(whoops haha). The homefries could have been crispier too. Regardless, the food was good, sat well, and I would eat here again.

Worst breakfast ever! Undercooked omelettes sent back to twice, I finally asked them to microwave it, that took another five minutes. I won’t be back ever.

We stopped here after a hike in a nearby Preserve. The cute little diner has about a dozen tables in the small dining room, but lucky for us(group of 8), they had large picnic tables and patio tables outside. The waitress was a nice lady who probably had been working here for 40+ years… She was funny, attentive and friendly. We asked for separate checks and she said. No Problem. I got their House Burger(Bacon Cheeseburger with fries) and it was very good. Moist, delicious, cooked medium(as I ordered). Others enjoyed their omelettes and sandwiches. Great little spot in South County for a nice meal. They take Credit Cards.

We were so glad to see that the Old Mill Diner had opened and many of the old staff from the Gentleman Farmer were back. The owners kept the menu very similar. The portions are not small and the food is typical local New England cuisine. We frequent the restaurant weekly and there are different specials every evening. I personally like the large chef salad, the zitti with meatballs and their meatloaf. It is a nice to go and is frequented by the locals. We sometimes spoil ourselves and go for Sunday breakfast. Theirs is exceptional from excellent omelettes, pancakes and cereals.

We had breakfast here once. It was okay. Then we stopped there for dinner. It was terrible!!! We has the special — clam cakes and chowder; the clam cakes were tasty, but the chowder was disgusting! I had the clear and my husband had the red. It was as if they cooked a large pot of potatoes, threw in a handful of tiny clam bits and served them to us with the requested broth. Canned soup is a thousand times better. We will avoid this place from now on.

This was a Bad experience for us. we used to eat here when it was the gentlemans farmer now the staff there has changed and I think it’s a lot worse than before. The staff was very grouchy in particular one rather mean dark haired women made the experience much worse. Also never order takeout from here. The portions are way smaller than eating in the restaurant and they got our order really wrong. When we called we ordered one thing of fried clam strips and when we got there they said we had ordered five so they had five orders ready. So all in all I’m never coming here again or never recommending it to any of my friends/family
