Black Out

First room escape experience and it was great! I thought it would be easy, rummage around and look for keys but there is definitely thought and cooperation required. Me and my wife grouped with 2 other pairs of people. Even without knowing the rest of the group, we all worked well and completed the objective. Highly recommended this, it was a great date night change of pace.

Great fun with the family. I’ve done several escape room games and this was the first with actors. That was a fun and interactive feature. There was only one room in South End Pschyo but the actors more than made up for it. I like that they have two escape room storylines (psycho and epidemic) that meet up in the third escape room (cell block), I’m intrigued to try the rest.

My son and I did South End Psycho this weekend and had a great experience. Part of that had to do with the fact that we were grouped with two other teams of two. The room itself was quite small and the props and puzzles were decent. At a couple points we had 6ish boxes with locks waiting to be opened which seemed a bit chaotic and less linear that I would have preferred but we escaped and had a good time. One thing that really added to our experience was the live characters that were in the game at various points — very cool. I give this room a ⁴⁄₅.

I’ll spare the little details but let’s just say we were almost LATE. The email (in small print) said to arrive 15 minutes early… but I didn’t see that until they called me asking my ETA?!? Website specifically says to be on time… so to me that meant 6:30…not 6:29…6:25…6:15. BUT!!! They graciously waited. we got there at 6:24…I won’t make that mistake again.
What makes this experience so great are the characters who NEVER break out of character… and then your group!!! Our group was awesome and the escape room Cell Block 704 was kinda HARD!
We had such a great time giggling and then really working together with strangers to get out of there… with 2 minutes to spare. Whew!
I’m doing this again… but I’ll skip the wine before (at home)!and wait until after… I sobered up pretty quickly when I figured out «well crap… My mind is not working… and you want me to do push ups?!» Hahaha so fun! (Yes the warden came in and made me do push ups… glad I’m a Barre and MADabolic chick)

If you’re trying to choose between Exit Strategy and Black Out, hands down go with Black Out.
Amazing staff, great décor, fun challenges, AND they did everything in their power to help us have a great experience. We did the Trade Street Epidemic for a friend’s birthday, and when we first walked into the room there was a birthday cupcake complete with lit candle for her. They even helped us finish our room at the end once we ran out of time! The photo area at the end is a great touch. We had a blast and I can’t wait to try it again! Thanks Black Out!!!

I came here with some friends for my buddies birthday, and we experienced the South End Psycho room. It was our first time doing anything like that so we had no idea what to expect. We had a blast! The couple that owns it are extremely friendly and made the experience a memorable one. We solved the puzzle just in time to escape the room! No spoilers but the room was super exciting and refreshingly challenging! No worries if you get stuck, they were right there to offer a gentle nudge in the right direction if needed. We even got to dress up with props afterwards while DC (one of the owners) took several photos. I will definitely be back to try the other rooms and would highly recommend it to others. Good luck!

This was so much more fun than just going to a movie! We did the South End Serial Killer, and it was HARD. I thought fore sure it was going to be too easy, and I am glad it wasn’t. I loved the fact that the staff was in character when we walked in the door. Very professional, and the place is set up very nicely. Great props. You are allowed to ask questions, and they don’t just give you answers, they are still in character and give you a strong clue. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, that was our teams weakness.
We had so much fun, and talked about it and compared notes for the rest of the night. We are planning on going back and try all the missions. I think it would be a great double date.
Halloween is coming up, and they told me they are planning some fun stuff, I can’t wait!

Such an amazing experience! The owners are all about the thrill! It rattled my brain and shook my heart! I’ll definitely be going back and I highly recommend it to everyone! Clues are very hard to find and the setting is so scary! My husband and I felt like we were really in the scene!

This was so fun! My boyfriend an I went and did the zombie challenge. It really makes you work together and communicate. You have to solve puzzles and riddles to save the world from Zombies. You only have an hour but the staff can help give you clues. What I like best is that the clues were worked into the story line. We are definitely going to go back!

If you live within 2 hours of this place you just HAVE to give it a try. They are new but oh my are they good. I went with the girlfriend who was totally freaking out the entire time but it was so worth it. Cost is right in my opinion, well worth it.
It was just us two which we thought would be horrible but it was great. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life. The employees stay in character and keep it together the entire time.
It was pretty challenging but they make it enjoyable by giving you a hand when you really need it.
There’s a reason why all reviews are 5 star. This place is fantastic.

Awesome night at an awesome place! I’ve never experienced anything like black out before! Totally worth the trip to Charlotte and we will definitely be back!!! It was everything I expected and more! The owners were super friendly and really got into character, which made it feel all the more real. I felt like I was actually in a horror movie! Great job guys! I can’t wait to see what’s next!

It was fantastic! The staff were terrific. We had a very nervous 11yo with us who was terrified to even enter the building much less the room. She ended up loving it! Don’t miss this one! It’s well worth it!

Ive done quite a few escape games before I came to Blackout and I must say, its up there on my list. We played Southend Psycho and the staff was nice enough to let us in after their last scheduled time slot at 10PM on a Saturday night. While its not the best game Ive ever played, the amazing hospitality of the staff and their customer service really put my experience over the top. You can really tell they believe in their product and love what they are doing, and that goes a long way in creating memorable guest experiences. I cant really explain myself on the actual game experience without giving away details, but Ill just say that I missed the lack of variety in the puzzles that Ive seen at other venues not in NC. Our team successfully finished with a few minutes to spare, so obviously we were happy about that. I would definitely recommend you try Blackout, I know Ill be going back to see their other games. I hope that we see more of this type of entertainment pop up in Charlotte in the near future… people are hungry for something fresh, and this concept satisfies.

Great first time experience! This place is awesome! Perfect for a team building activity or date night! The escape room was interactive and exciting! The staff is friendly and professional! I can’t wait to go back and do another room! Fantastic addition to South End and a must try!

Loved this place! Love being able to challenge myself. They had awesome themes, and it’s really great for team building.
