Have you ever woken up one morning and been like«Hm, I wonder what olympic sport I’ll try today?» and then you think of the most random sport you could think of and you research where you can learn it and you find that the nearest place around you is in another country? Of course you haven’t, because Charlotte Curling exists. Gotta love the secrets that the Queen City has to offer. Now, apparently there was a Groupon that existed for this for a while, but I didn’t know about that. For $ 25, you have a 2 hour session with coaches that teach you everything from the very basics — sweeping, delivery, technique and form, and you get to spend your last hour or so playing a real match with others who are there to learn like you. The communication that the facility provided before the event as well as how well everything was set up during the event was flawless. These guys know how to entertain, but more importantly, they know how to teach. I feel like these guys can teach almost anybody how to succeed, and I think I actually might go back and do a session or two because of that. Bonus, when you do this event, you get a free 2-week long membership to come back and try it out with the big boys. They have plenty of options of events and practices, ranging from their professional leagues to their«5 and under»(talking years of experience, not age, apparently!) league. Also, fellow libation enthusiast, they have a fully stocked bar with really cheap prices for good stuff. Prost!

Centrally located, This is a wonderful place to visit. The exterior is very simple but when you enter, the place is amazing. I was greeting by other club members from all walks of life. I knew nothing about curling, but after the«learn to curl» lesson, I was actually helping the team score points. It is harder than it looks and is a great workout! If you do yoga, your skills will be used here. We are seriously considering an annual membership to this non profit.

Fabulous facility! I am a curling newbie. I bought a Groupon for«Learn to Curl» and attended the class this past Saturday. I have to admit, I never thought curling looks like much of a sport. I always joke that curling is my only chance in ever making it to a Olympic game(as a competitor) — well, I better rethink that! The class itself was very economical even without a Groupon — and their website is super easy to navigate for registration and for other info(membership, 4-week curling series for beginners etc). For $ 25 you get to spend 2(+) hours on ice and learn the basics of curling. The instructors(all volunteers from the non-profit club) were super kind and patient. The facility is great — do dress accordingly and think about wearing gloves and hat if you are not cold-weather friendly. They have a great main room(«warm room») with a bar and table games. Nice big viewing area looking onto the ice for those who prefer to sit out. I had fun, and 2 days later I’m still sore everywhere — guess curling is a sport afterall! And sadly I also think that my Olympic dream will remain a dream…

This is a state of the art curling facility newly built with great ice and a warm room area committed to comfort and fun. If you are not out there curling yourself(which I highly recommend) you can be warm and cozy watching the games through the windows while having a drink from the bar, or even playing Crokinole, pool, snooker, giant jenga all while listening to the live or recorded professional matches being broadcasted on the monster flat screen tv via custom Canadian satellite. What a cool experience! A great thing to try and super unique date night idea!
