I don’t even know where to begin when describing this place. As a current student /applicant for a doctorate in audiology(Au.D), this place really speaks(pun intended) to me. Why is this the case? Let’s start with the center’s history: it became a United Way agency in 1969, and has been rocking out as a non-profit since. Last year, the Center provided over 20,000 serivces to over 8,000 individuals with speech-language or hearing disabilities. I experienced some of their efforts firsthand, and volunteer here regularly. In addition to their speech therapy focus on children and the elderly, they also assist with hearing disabilities: their Hearing Services Bank(HSB) has provided over 1,200 free hearing aids to low-income children and seniors who really needed them. The staff are all dedicated, the audiologists and speech pathologists are all super-qualified and established in their respective fields, and the mission is admirable. I have nothing but excellent things to say about this place! I recommend it, whether you(or your family) can properly afford it or not; after all, the revenue generated from full-paying patients is ultimately put back into the non-profit to assist those who cannot afford such services. This makes it a better call than all the for-profit equivalents here in Charlotte! I recommend calling in advance to find a time that isn’t rushed or super-booked. Even if you are not a potential patient, please support this wonderful non-profit!
