I can definitely say that I’ve had better service. First of all, likely due to the type of tenant that Coffey Creek rents to, all application fees, administrative fees, etc. must be paid individually via money order – no personal checks, no credit/debit cards, nothing but a money order for each fee separately. A minor inconvenience, but it’s 2015 and I feel it shouldn’t be an issue. During the year I’ve lived here, the water to the entire complex has been cut twice with no warning to the tenants. We were not notified during the most recent incident until several hours after the water had been shut off – and of course it was impossible to contact anyone in the office, as everyone *else* in the complex was trying to do the same thing. One month out of 12, I ended up paying my rent a day late due to the way paychecks went out that month combined with some emergency car repairs. I actually had a check written(and, more importantly, funds in my account) on the 5th, but apparently by the time I had gotten off work that day, they had already taken the checks to the bank and refused to consider my check as having been delivered on the 5th. This meant I had to go get *another* money order and pay a late fee, even though I presented my check on the 5th before the close of business. Safety is not a top priority for management. A rent-a-cop/contracted security guard supposedly«patrols» the parking lot at night in a golf cart, but I’ve never seen that golf cart anywhere but parked in front of the office. Three times during my lease have I received an email stating that vehicles had been broken into in the parking lot in addition to the break-in(and theft) a friend experienced while visiting me for a few days. For a solid 5 months toward the beginning of my lease, my downstairs neighbors smoked marijuana profusely inside the apartment. I complained to the office at least once a week about the smell drifting into my apartment, but I was always urged to call the police instead. After contacting the police on three different occasions and asking the responding officers to file a report with the management office, I still had to deal with my apartment constantly smelling of marijuana(still an illegal substance in North Carolina). Finally, when I attempted to give my 60-day notice to vacate(double what I have experienced elsewhere in Charlotte), I told the office that I had a friend who was interested in my apartment and would be willing to take over the lease immediately on my departure. He and I were told to get his application in as soon as possible, as the apartment was already on the market and could be rented at any time. Knowing that I was handing them a tenant on a silver platter, the office then turned around and rented the apartment within an hour of our conversation. Honestly, I would stay away. Coffey Creek definitely isn’t the worst apartment complex I’ve ever lived in, but I certainly wouldn’t extend my lease here.
