The folks who run the Giant Penny seem like nice folks, but they are heavily focused on cheap, salty, high fat, high sugar, processed foods. They probably feel they are providing affordable food to low-income clientele, but in reality they are poisoning their patrons with diabetes, heart-disease, and cancer. I truly wish they’d convert to a locally-sourced, organic, health food type model akin to Healthy Home Market. NoDa and increasingly Plaza-Shamrock are full of young health-conscious patrons who won’t buy processed food. And with four major condo developments underway, the market for healthier food is about to go through the roof and the first LARGE market in the area will do quite well. Such a change would require a new name and new branding – the old one is just too ingrained with a reputation for unhealthy food and criminal activity in the parking lot. ______________________ Oh and I’m white and they’ve asked me to check my bag as well.

An insult to the black community! They don’t trust us, but will come into our community and take our money and you never hear of them giving back to the BLACK community. I’m a Black male and happen to go in on Saturday and had a backpack on and was appall when was told I had to leave it up front. It’s DISCRIMINATIONONSOMANYLEVELS!!! I felt like I was being PROFILED!!! You don’t trust me but wanted me to trust you with my bag upfront? What’s next? Will you be checking Black female purses next?
