Update — I went by today and it’s permanently closed. A shame. I guess the bagels were getting smaller for good reason… Being from NY, I began to lose hope on finding a good bagel… until I found this place thanks to Groupon. The bagels are really, really close my perfect NY bagel. by far the closest in Charlotte(probably the South). I honestly go there just for the bagels most of the time, but the sandwiches are pretty good. The tuna is super! The bagel prices aren’t cheap, but worth it. I did notice a slight reduction in size the during my last visit. I am planning to go back today, so I’ll update this review accordingly! Reasons I didn’t get 5* are: — the ordering process takes too long. This would be the only bagel place I’ve been to without a menu-board, therefore there is normally a line. Once you reach the cashier and takes your order, the staff is not very streamlined. I would suggest all staff in the front take orders, then go to the cashier once the order is prepped and pay. — the coffee bar is nice, but I prefer my coffee done up behind the counter so it’s quicker in-and-out.

Just moved from NYC and have been searching for a decent bagel spot. After trying chains like Brueggers and Einsteins I began to lose hope for a decent bagel shop in this area, until I found this little gem! The bagels are decent(from what understand you can’t duplicate NY/NJ bagels or pizza because of the water difference), but best I’ve found. The cream cheeses are awesome and spot on! Not only are they freshly made but they give you a ton! This is how you spot a NY style bagel shop, there’s so much cream cheese you almost have to wipe some off(unless you’re a glutton like me and eat every last drop!). Every other place I’ve tried barely put any cream cheese on the bagel and when I asked for extra they actually charged me! Only suggestions are putting a menu on the wall, everyone has to grab a takeout menu to see what they offer. You can’t see what bagels they have or cream cheeses unless you pick up a menu. I’m guessing this could result in the longer wait times some of the other reviewers mentioned. Also some of the people behind the counter seemed a little clueless and unorganized but everyone was very friendly. I will definitely be back every week!!! Please stay open!

Well I had a Living Social that was about to expire, but I guess that is the procrastinator in me, so the wife and I dropped by around noon on a Saturday morning. We were a little surprised to see the line basically out the door, but initially thought that it was just a popular place. Soon we found out that the ordering process was just that, a very long process. We were in no rush, so we got in line and slowly made our way to the front of the line. I am not sure how to take this, but no one left or got out of line, so that must be a good sign that people will wait for good food. Either that or they are regulars and know that this is just how things are at the NY Bagel Shoppe. Enough with that, let me talk about the food. The wife had an omelette with a bagel and I had the bagel lox. Also, 2 coffees and some whitefish salad to bring home, as I had to Living Social coupon to use. Everything was real good as far as taste and portion size for our liking. We sat at a table, my bagel lox came out first, then the omelette and finally our package of whitefish to go. Based on this scene, I can agree with other reviews about the service. In our case, it was not bad, but certainly disorganized, on top of the long ordering process. I am assuming the guy at the cash register was the owner, and he was very nice and personable with all the chaos. I have never run a restaurant or even a bagel shop, but I feel like the ordering process could be improved somewhat based on my experience and other reviews that I have read. Maybe an express order line for quick to go orders would help, especially during the peak times. As I said, we were in no rush, ate our food there and thoroughly enjoyed everything, furthermore, I want this place to succeed so that I may be able call it my neighborhood bagel place.

Nice bagel shop with friendly staff. Seems a bit disorganized. People didn’t get their drinks at time of ordering and repeatedly had to go back up to the counter to remind staff of their drink orders. Had a lox bagel sandwich but they forgot the capers after I specifically checked at time of ordering what came on the sandwich. Probably would try it again but service issues need addressing. Very friendly and family orientated place.

Not bad but still needs some work. Prices are a little high and the food is a little sub par. I usually try and find the positives in most places but… There isn’t a lot that I can say here. When I think New York Bagel Shop, I think that this is going to be a great quick breakfast spot. First, it took about 10 minutes to prepare a toasted egg bagel with Philly cream cheese. What is that all about? Next, I thought the lunch sandwiches were 10x better than any breakfast option. I’ve been here about three times already because it is right around the corner and I really wanted to give it the ol’ college try before I wrote this. The chicken, avocado, and sundried tomato on a kaiser roll was so much better than the breakfast omelette or their bagels. Its a BAGEL shop! And the sandwich was $ 10. What the heck! Like I said, it’s not an awful place and this town is lacking the bagel shop department but eh… I would go to Skillets or Flying Biscuit over here. Sorry. –Ian M.

I’m with the other reviewer on this one, horrible service(they basically forgot about my order) and over priced. Though I must say it was nice finding a shop with salt bagels.

A much needed and fantastic addition to the Blakeney area! Just picked up some fresh-out-of-the-oven-still-warm bagels on this fine sunday morning. I’ve been 3 times so far… and 3 times I’ve had a great experience. Once I was being rung up and changed my mind… wanted to add a lemonade to the order. The nice guy behind the counter handed me, a 7 month very preggo lady, a lemonade on a 100 degree day and said«it’s on us!» Very kind. The menu is varied and fresh. I am usually a bagel with cream cheese + tomato kind of gal, but I look forward to trying some wraps. My husband loved his brekkie sando this AM as well. Welcome to the hood, New York Bagel Shoppe! Glad you’re here!

I was in the shopping plaza at breakfast time and so I popped into here for a quick nosh. Good choice, the bagels are made on site and the staff(there were at least 8 of them behind the counter!) was friendly. My western omelet was solid and the bagel with cream cheese on the side was nice and fresh. Free wifi is always a win for me, but the«background» music was way too loud. You shouldn’t have to shout to have a conversation unless you’re in a bar. On a Sunday morning in a bagel place, that’s a little weird.
