Service was slow and our order was not correct. When the pork chop arrived it was undercooked. Food is just ok.

Very slow service. 2 missed orders. never refilled waters or other drinks. Food was meh. Shrimp and grits were bland, catfish hard and dry. The bill did not have any discount for sending the wrong meal.

Was not super impressed with lunch. The lamb burger was mediocre and unevenly cooked. My friend said his perones & shrimp was good, but unfortunately the portion size was minimal. I do like a good jar for my water, and they have some off-brand jars printed with the resturants logo on them, and I also liked that my beer came in an actual cold mug with a handle. All in all I would have prefered to go to Basil, which would offer some similar menu items(lamb, tapas, etc). May investigate more in the future but probably not

Fig is a great brunch spot! French toast and pancakes are always on point. Also love the décor — the twinkling string lights and mason jars are just made for instagramming. It’s a little on the pricey side but I always have a great experience here!

3.5 stars I visited fig for brunch a couple weeks ago and I’ve been meaning to write a review. First of all, I had no idea fig served brunch! This was great because it’s usually so crowded to find a place for brunch on the corner and fig wasn’t too busy so we were able to be seated immediately. In terms of the brunch menu there were so many vegetarian options! This was awesome for me being a veggie because this NEVER happens in the history of brunch! I ended up ordered the brunch spanakopita and I had no complaints. I also had a side of grits which were OK as well which was unfortunate because I love grits. All in all It was pretty good food but definitely wasn’t out of this world. The staff was super friendly and attentive. I never had to wait long if there was anything I needed. Overall, I enjoyed my brunch experience at fig. It’s a good place to go if you’re into not waiting a long time to be seated and friendly people!

My favorite restaurant on the corner, the food is solid and the drinks are the best I’ve come across on the corner. The staff is always friendly and the bartender is AWESOME!

The food was fine and the service was excellent, but I felt that the price didn’t match the quality of the food.

Tried this restaurant out for Charlottesville’s Restaurant Week back in January and had a very«meh» experience. Atmosphere — odd decorations — twinkle lights provide poor lighting, and New Orleans style mural seems out of place in such a supposedly nice place. Service — this was the kicker, while our waiter was nice but not super attentive our experience with the manager was way worse. My mother had gotten to the restaurant early and was seated, we arrived and joined her only to have the manager immediately come up to us and beratingly ask us to move. Apparently that table was reserved for a later party, and the hostesses had not been made aware, however the manager acted as though we had un-welcomingly sat ourselves and was quite hostile about it.(sounds like others have experienced similar rude experience based on other reviews) Food — generally decent — I enjoyed my Jambalaya, but found the rice to be very watery, my pumpkin bruschetta however was inedible because it was so hard. The beignets however were fabulous. Overall — it’s an okay spot to eat on the Corner, but for the price and service there are far better options.

Excellent service, great food. They were very nice, fast, and the food was pretty good. My 20 month old was cranky and hungry and they gave him priority to the kids and accommodated to our needs. Honestly in these days I was surprised and pleased we were treated so well having two kids for dinner. I absolutely recommend this place, also the ambiance is pretty nice and beer is also good.

Brunch here is great– haven’t tried the rest of the menu! The almond strawberry pancakes are delicious and we even got a small plate of fruit after as compliments of the chef! :)

I came here last week for almond crusted chicken and it was really good so I came back again. I came for 3-course $ 15 deal on Thursday, and it was horrible. The appetizer was just two pieces of bread and tomatoes on top of it. The main dish was steak and it tasted literally like salt. I gave it a 3 star because of the atmosphere and waittress.

Hi, I was there during restaurant week with three friends. Unfortunately, we walked away not very impressed and mostly hungry. I thought I would write to you here rather than on Unilocal where it could do irreparable harm. I lived in Louisiana for several years and know what jambalaya should be like. There should be huge slices of andouille sausage, large shrimp, and chunks of vegetables and chicken in a thick spicy sauce. Your Jambalaya was none of those. Small cheap shrimp, tiny bits ot andouille sausage and chicken and bits of everything else in a runny bland broth. Seriously, did yours come from a can? If you Google Jambalaya images you’ll see exactly what it should look like. In fact, all of the cajun/creole dishes served at our table were far below par. It is very obvious that your chef has not been trained in creole cooking and even though he is also part owner perhaps you need to hire someone appropriately trained or give it up for something he knows. But since your last restaurant failed I’m sure the problem goes deeper. Also, the slanted bar top is not funny or kitchy. I don’t know of anyone who wants a drink to slide off the bar top and soak them right before dinner let alone anytime. Just fix it. Cheap ingredients, small portions, and bland food will just get you another failed restaurant.

I would give no stars If I could Made a reservation a day in advance for 2:00 pm on a Thursday afternoon and we got there at 2:02pm the receptionist told us they were closed. I explained to him our 2:00 reservation, and he just said the reservation system might have a problem and he’ll be sure to have it fixed. He had say that without even apologized to us. So we left, and will spend our money somewhere else. Will never go back!!!

To be completely honest, the best part of the brunch was the conversation. The food, service, and ambiance were all equally awful. My $ 9 egg on avocado was not at all remotely fulling and my coffee had grounds. In addition, the presentation of the food was sloppy and waiters were not very attentive. I was very disappointed with the overall experience and will not likely to heading back any time soon. My recommendation… go to Pigeon Hole.

My husband and I tried to go here for brunch today because I really wanted to try their oreo pancakes and mimosas. Their brunch hours state they’re open from 10 – 2. We got there at 1pm. The waitress told me the kitchen is closed and to come back at five. Who the f%#$ wants to wait three hours for food? I went to Pigeon Hole a few blocks away and got a good brunch there instead. If your kitchen closed already, don’t advertise your brunch hours to be between 10 – 2 on your website, and on the menu right outside of your building. There’s nothing worse than being hungry and pissed off at the same time. Addition: I wrote a concern on their Facebook wall about this, and they deleted it. I guess they don’t give a rat’s tail about what people think about their business.

I’ve visited a couple different times — during Happy Hour after work, with a group dinner, with a group lunch. Each time, the food has felt average and a bit overpriced, but I can appreciate the drink specials, convenience in location and slightly upscale ambiance in contrast to the rest of The Corner. I’ve ordered the bacon-wrapped dates more than once just because those are just one of my all-time fav apps anywhere. Sometimes, they come out just as I prefer with the crispy bacon, sweet/chewy date, creamy/melty goat cheese and crunch of almond in the center. Other times(like my most recent experience), the bacon was slightly burnt. The price for them is quite a rip-off, considering there are only three total(yes, it’s $ 3 per bacon-wrapped date), and because it’s an odd number, it’s always awkward to have to split. In the end, I should probably stop ordering them if/when I return. Other dishes I’ve had like the Pesto Salmon Salad and the Cajun Burger have also had some slightly overdone/dry proteins.(At least they’re all cooked through.) And the quality of ingredients is fresh, especially notable with the salad and bread. I know they also tout themselves on the pierogies, which as someone who has a Polish mother-in-law who makes them from scratch every holiday, they tasted a slight notch better than the frozen grocery store chain of Mrs. T’s. I’m just picky about wanting thin dough consistency, and I’m also a bit of a purist with what you pair as a condiment on top(sour cream and perhaps some onion).

Fig Bistro hit the nail on the head! I was out after day one of two long work days in Charlottesville and wanted a fresh, light, dinner, a beer and an easy going atmosphere. They served it all! Austin took care of me and was super! He obviously is a very diligent worker who goes above and beyond to serve his customers, and he’s more than happy doing it! I ordered a salmon pesto salad and the salmon was cooked perfectly.. no, seriously perfect; crunchy edges and slightly rare middle. With limited time to explore my first visit in C’ville, I was very pleased with this spot. Chatting with Austin and Kelsey and another customer at the bar, they all gave me great company, and guided me to other spots to check out. In other words, talked me out of my own curfew for the evening. YOLO :) Thanks Fig! I’ll most definitely be back. In my short time in town, I’ve already grown a big heart for C’ville.

Fig has good deals on draft beers and(that night) whisky! haha. I ordered the special, which was a type of chicken potato stew. It was ok. This place is kind of grungy. Dim-light and felt slightly… not-so-clean. Service was good. I don’t really expect much more from Fig. It really was just ‘average’.

Super great! $ 4 red wine at happy hour on Mondays. The Malbec was great. Had a basic side salad to start. Bed of arugula, topped w/tomatoes and onions, house red vinaigrette. Dinner was an amazing chicken special with herb rice. The chicken was in a stew full of flavorful veggies over the rice in a giant bowl. Ben the charming bartender recommended it to me. To finish the grilled donuts for desert with ice cream and chocolate drizzle. Super yummy but I suggest sharing! I definitely want to try Thursdays when they have $ 15 chefs choice three course pre fix– what a great deal, right? Overall: the owner was very nice and spoke to me for several minutes. He’s from Croatia, has a beautiful accent, and did the renovations internally for the restaurant. I love supporting a small business especially with a staff as lovely as FIG(food is good). Great addition Charlottesville!!!

One word: Cevapi. Cevapi are house-made sausages served with a Mediterranean flat-bread and a ajvari(eggplant/red pepper) dip. This is also their house specialty and I highly recommend it. FIG = Food is Good. The menu is fairly diverse — from po-boy style sandwiches to salads to pasta to meats. They seem to take a twist to their food — for example, they serve a shrimp linguini with a ‘no-nut’ sauce. Their baklava does not use honey, but a lemon syrup. They definitely takes things to a new level. Atmosphere; Cozy/Casual dining. They also have a bar as well as outside dining. Prices are reasonable — we had wine, appetizer(to share), side salad, entrée and dessert for $ 32 each. Service was outstanding — first — everything came out SO fast. I was more impressed with Anya, who is a gem. first, she recommended a nice simple wine. Then when she described the Cevapi, we were sold. Then we found out that it is homemade on premise! We also find out that her baklava was award winning and is how she got started. I’m only here for a couple of days, but I would definitely go back for more! p. s.UVA students — this is a cute place for a date or just a fun night out.
