Best place in Charlottesville to get snow gear. They carry everything for ski, snowboard and cross country activities. They also have a huge selection of clothing and accessories. Best feature of the store is their service. They’ll keep working on your ski boots until you get a perfect pain free fit. Also carry a nice selection of Yakima Sky Boxes and GoPro accessories.

Disingenuous staff and money gouging management. I came in the day of a flight for a two week ski trip over the holidays. Told the sales person my current ski bag was too heavy for the airline and needed a lighter one that could still carry two skis. The recommended bag we both agreed would be close but might not work. I said I’d not have a chance to return it that day and if I’d be able to return it when I got back. He said no problem it was within 15 days. The bag did not work and I came back within my fifteen days but was told no refund. I could only get store credit. That it needed to be back within 7 days to get money back. They said the employee who sold it was there but instead the manager came out and got surly about the fine print on the receipt. I was psyched to have a ski shop close to the house but never again will I shop there. Terrible return policy that is out of touch with customers. Bad enough the sales person was misleading, but that the management would rather gouge the customer to make $ 100 than keep their long term business is the nail in the coffin.

Best shop in Virginia, hands down! Everyone is passionate about the products and more importantly, they have the knowledge and the knowhow to back it up. You can’t ask for a better staff. You will not be disappointed with the level of service. Please support your local shop and buy local.

Great experience. Snow stuff is pricey. Everything else seems about right. Skate, swim, car racks, shades. They gotcha covered. Node half pipe out back. The local favorite since the eighties, for reals.

This place is MUCH better than Function4Sports. That place is staffed by a bunch of loosers. And their return policy is INSANE. This place on the other hand has a helpful, friendly staff treating pros and noobs equally. Their prices are reasonable. And they have great products. They’ve got a customer for life.

Freestyle sells gear and clothing for snow sports. Every fall at the start of the ski season they have a big swap sale. Over the course of a week, the shop will buy used gear from individuals. That weekend, they will sell the used gear under an outdoor tent. It is possible to get skis with bindings, boots and poles all in used but good condition for under $ 150. This is a very good price. They charge $ 30 for calibration. If you leave your skis/snowboard for calibration or a tune-up, you can pick them up in two weeks. You can pay extra for rush service. In terms of new gear, I couldn’t find a good helmet on sale. Also, there seemed to be only one cashier for the very long checkout line at the swap sale. The place is way out on Route 29 and therefore not bicycle-accessible. Otherwise, I have no complaints. All the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and patient. They also do season rentals here and at their Wintergreen location. Rentals are about $ 150 for the season, but why rent when you can buy a better-quality pair to own for the same price? If you’re going to the swap, here are some words of advice: 1. Get there early. This year they opened at 9am on Saturday but there were people lining up at 8:15. It’s a mad rush when they open the gate. 2. Get your foot measured in advance. That way, you won’t waste valuable time getting measured while your competition is snapping up all the good boots. Ski boot sizes, snowboard boot sizes, and regular shoe sizes are all different. 3. If you need boots and skis, head for the boots first. It’s important to get the most comfortable boots possible, since you’re going to be zooming down mountains in them for hours. 4. Bring cash or check. No cards accepted at the swap. Other than this payment policy, this business is worthy of five stars.
