OK, so I love surprises, and I can’t tell you what a pleasant surprise this was. After moving my son into his house, we used Unilocal and found this place, really well rated, and the menu looked good. When I told my son and his GF, they both gave the ruh-roh look, because it looked«sketchy» where it was, but they’d never actually been here. Well, I grabbed my fedora and bullwhip, and said we’re on an adventure! What a GREAT decision. Yes, when you pull in, there is some sort of construction yard next to Moose’s, and it doesn’t look particularly appealing. That is so sneaky! As soon as you walk in, there is an open waiting area, and we were greeted but what we later found out was one of the owners, Amy(I hope I got that right!). She took us too our table, chatting, and was very pleasant. Our waitress was literally right behind her, and coffee was en route, STAT! Amy continued to talk to us like we were friends, telling us a little about the place and then… «Have you been Moosified yet?» Yeah, you read that right, moosified… You will just have to find the picture to see what they do with folks. Such a hook, and fun. I am not a fun guy, pre-coffe, normally, but the folks here bring it out. So, now, the whole place is really cool. Separate dining areas that they use very uniquely. There is our room which was painted with hoof prints on the wall, and really neat art that we found was done by a local artist, sold for charity, then donated to Moose’s anyway to hang. Amy actually took us on a tour through the whole place. There is a trophy room where there are actually stuffed and hung animal heads(I am not a hunter, but hey, to each their own), and each had it’s own name. Then there was a room was all kinds of old tools on the wall, you just have to see it. OK, so we haven’t even talked food yet. I had the special of the day which was, wait for it, a cream cheese strawberry and banana crêpe’, with sides. WOW!!! Fresh, made to order crêpe, sweet and elastic like only fresh crepes can be and the filling was so light and sweet, and with fresh fruits on top. YUMMY! I mean, just YUMMY!!! My wife got a sausage egg and cheese burrito that she will review, but I stole a bite and can tell you it was DELICIOUS! I sent a text to my son telling him it is a MUST see place, and the wife and I have already made the pact that anytime we go see the kids, this WILL be on the menu. It is a destination place waiting to be found, so much fun in a little place and the people are the stars! Get in here, get Moosified!!!

Pretty standard diner fare that gets five stars for being good quality, having lots of character and really friendly owners. When you step in, one of the ladies comes over and offers an individual photoshoot with the moose antlers, which now explains all the pics with the antlers. I ordered the«maine» moose, which was plain but all the parts were good. The biscuit especially was large and fluffy, and the home fries were tasty. The eggs were eggs, can’t complain, and the Virginia ham was salty and delicious. I came in starving and actually was still kind of hungry when I left, but that’s my fault for not ordering enough. I had a bite of a friend’s French toast with cinnamon butter and wished I had gotten that on the side. UVA students get a 10% discount, also a plus!

I’m not usually a morning person, but this morning was a bit of an exception. I woke up after a night at Three Notch’d chowing down on lumpia and pancit from Little Manila and pondering craft beer trivia. I woke up hungry enough that I briefly contemplated eating a moose. Thankfully, Moose isn’t on the menu here, but there are all manner of nomalicious breakfasty foods along with big cups of coffee, both of which I sorely needed at 7 am and you probably will too. Try the Maine Moose, the Cville Way, or Bobby’s Big Breakfast… you will be happy and ready to take on the world(or Cville, at least!) single handedly. By the way, don’t let the out of the way location scare you. This isn’t Blue Moon Diner or Bluegrass Bakery or Bodo’s Bagels… this is better. Hoos take note. Oh, and you will be moosified. You have been warned.

Good food. Good homestyle food. All tasty… but the best part are the owners! If these two ladies don’t get you laughing and smiling, then you really are a sad soul.

If you judge a book by its cover, you’d walk away from this place. It isn’t for the faint of heart either, but Amy and co. really put out some delicious food, great hospitality, and if you haven’t been here before, you get«Moosified». We got the meat lovers Omelette and The CVille Way, both delicious. Nice hole in the wall! If you ha net been here, get here!

Probably one of the most comfortable atmospheres in all of Charlottesville! Moose has turned a classic restaurant from my childhood and wrapped it in a big friendly country blanket! The burgers and fries are anything but ordinary. All American, all classic, and not too heavy in the wallet. Recommend the cooked apples.

Be prepared to get moosified! Haha If it’s your first time there, you’ll take a photo as it’s shown on this page. The food is so cheap and good! I had breakfast for $ 4! Like the good old days back in 70s, which I only heard about LOL! You will love it there specially if you’re into country lifestyle! Staff are super nice, and happiness is highly contagious. This place is where you wanna start your morning every day! So have fun getting moosfied ;-)

What a great place for breakfast AND mostly for the camaraderie! The owner, Moose, made us feel like family-even took our pics by the moose antlers for Facebook! Their homemade biscuits were amazing and I had a half order of biscuits and sausage gravy along with a double cheese omelet(I should’ve just had regular amount-the double amount didn’t melt…) But the flavor was there! The homemade fried potatoes were scrumptiousness on a plate and my mouth is still watering thinking about coming back tomorrow for the special of fresh blueberry and cream cheese stuffed French toast with more fried potatoes! I’ll be seeing y’all there in the morn! Apparently we’ll be sharing the place with the UVA Women’s Softball team so come in orange and blue! By the way, the coffee? Better than… oh, any of those high priced chain places… See you tomorrow, Moose!

Great spot! Lovely staff and great food. Super welcoming and kind. We had the chicken fried steak breakfast(it was the special that day) and the Big Breakfast(sausage gravy, biscuit, home fries &2 eggs). Everything was hot, flavorful, & affordable. We came on Sunday morning around 9 am and it was packed, but the hostess did an awesome job keeping people entertained and making sure they knew they would be seated as soon as possible. Not a fancy spot, but great food, good people, and affordable prices. Thumbs up!

The exterior may frighten you… or excite you, all depending. This place is nestled in between a gun shop(excite) and U-Haul store(fright). But once you deal with this, please consider the following. The service is awesome. Some of the nicest people work here… and at 8 am on a Saturday, that’s a God send. The food is awesome. French toast sticks… yes please. Eggs, meat, and potatoes… uh-huh. Endless coffee… oh I’m so yours. Also, this is the kind of place where you always see cops taking a meal. Trust me, cops know good breakfast food. Also, they insist on taking your photo with a moose head on the wall as part of some initiation ritual, just go with it.

This hilariously charming place is just fantastic for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. Don’t be scared away by the gun shop next door and all the pro-hunting and Second Amendment signs hung on every free space on the wall in the restaurant. It’s homey with great food, amazing service, cheap prices for large portions, and probably the best/fluffiest biscuits in town. If it’s your first time, Amy(the very cheery and outgoing hostess) will«moose-ify» you, and it’s very silly but very fun. :) And they WILL put the pictures up on their Facebook page, so be sure to go looking for it. I’ve had a burger and fries, which were fine and hit the spot but not remarkable. I preferred getting breakfast-y things personally, but basically everything is going to be excellent comfort food.(Get a biscuit – these are what real Southern biscuits are supposed to taste like.) It’s definitely a more unconventional brunch experience, but in all the best ways!

From the moment we walked into Moose’s, we were greeted and treated like family(family that like each other)! I could definitely tell that a lot of the people there were regulars, everyone was greeted by name and I noticed at one table the man ordered the usual and the waitress knew exactly what to bring. They are big supporters of first responders and military and it looks like the kind of place police officers eat at on their breaks. This is a real down to earth, local joint! My husband had some delicious looking egg platter and I split the breakfast special of the day with my toddler, which was homemade French toast sticks topped with whipped cream, 2 eggs any style, fresh fruit and your choice of meat(scrapple, duh). The food was yummy and hearty and the staff was just amazing and so cute with my little boy. We will be back for sure. What out, If it’s your first time here, you will get«moosified» by getting your picture taken with moose antlers!

Oh, I cannot tell you how disappointed I was with Moose’s. We drove to Charlottesville and picked this place for lunch. It was not good. The hamburger was cooked beyond well done; the bun came out of a bag that was bought at Piggly Wiggly; the fries made me long for Micky D’s fries. The entire experience was strange. With the sole exception of the side of biscuits and sausage gravy the food experience did not meet expectations. The staff were nice and seemed to know everyone there. Maybe for breakfast… Imagine how sad I was when I discovered what was downtown. I have to go back to C’ville.

Stopped in for breakfast on a trip. Eclectic décor to say the least, but don’t let that out put you off. This is serious comfort food. It was all very good, and the service was fast and attentive. Of particular note — the biscuit might be the best one I’ve ever had. We will definitely be back next time we are passing through!

What a fun place for breakfast or lunch! The staff and hostess are a hoot! They really engage with the customers and make you feel welcome. The food was very good especially the breakfast special. They had some type of French toast strawberry cream cheese pastry that was served with scrambled eggs delicious home fries and bacon. We also tried the fully loaded hamburger and it was delicious. Another dish that we enjoyed was a Philly cheese steak. The prices are very reasonable, the Decour is eclectic and inviting. They strive to take every customers picture in front of a set of moose antlers and then will post the pictures on their Facebook page. It was a lot of fun. The other thing is they gave us free cake which was called pig picking cake. It was delicious! This is one of those places thats a little bit hard to find but well worth the trip. Well done to the owners and staff. we look forward to coming back to seeing your smiling faces.

«Get Moose-a-fied!» What a delightful experience! We came here with a group of 11 people after some apple picking, and boy did they accommodate! Upon arrival, we were greeted by Amy, a wonderful firecracker with so much heart. She offered to have us moose-a-fied(see picture) and kept us laughing and having fun while we waited for our large table to be put together. The menu has all kinds of tasty options, from a bacon burger with a fried egg, buttery mac and cheese, tasty french toast, and many other options. My burger was perfectly juicy, complemented by the mac. They have both breakfast and lunch options, and it honestly took me quite a while to decide, since everything looked so tasty. The service here is so wonderful, and we had no less than a great time. When I’m back in Charlottesville, I’ll be back to Moose’s.

Hefty servings of delicious food and cheap! We stopped for breakfast on our way back from a backpacking trip. We found this place using Unilocal and the directions stopped us a little short of the destination next to a gas station. Keep driving straight for 1⁄10th of a mile or so and you’ll see it on the left. It’s kind of a non-descript red brick building. Inside it’s quirky with animal mounts all over but the friendly owners can tell you the stories behind each one. Definitely worth stopping in!

Stopped here on the way back to Richmond after visiting friends in Harrisonburg. Found them on Unilocal and decided to stop for breakfast. Had the C’ville Way, which includes French toast with Apple cinnamon butter(so good!), eggs, hash browns and piece of ham, sausage or bacon. It was too much food but I got to try a variety. Everything was really good. Will definitely visit again.
