I love this store so much. Everything is good, reasonable prices, nice produce, good meats. The customer service is really top notch, so much nicer than any of the giant grocery stores. Most small stores Ive been to in te Cville area have obscene prices and a weird pretentious boutiquey vibe. This is just a really nice independant grocery store with competitive prices and its such a pleasure to shop there.

Meat, meat, meat. Their house made bacon and sausage are half the price and twice as good as the corporate chain grocery stores.

We came here bc of the other Unilocal reviews, but I have to say we were really disappointed. The store doesn’t look as clean as other grocery stores, which for me was a turn-off. It’s not in the best area of town, either. True, there are some deals on meat, but for us it just wasn’t worth it. We won’t be back unless they do some updating and cleaning.

MEAT = GREAT! Reid Market has the best price and the best-looking ground beef in town. They are very helpful in packaging up large quantities, although their plastic bags are a bit too thin for weights over 5 pounds. The rest of the store is marginal, especially the produce section. A lot of times they are out of Pepperidge Farms stuffing mix, and you can find better prices on condiments elsewhere.

OHMYGODTHEMEATDEPARTMENT The Good — The Meat Department. I’m a strong believer in head-to-tail eating, and I love that I can purchase anything from beef hearts to fresh pork shanks and necks to liver to chicken feet. — The prices. SOCHEAP compared to Kroger and Harris Teeter. I definitely didn’t feel like I was sacrificing quality either — all the meat looked very fresh, and the fresh pork shanks I took home looked far fresher than the pork chops I recently purchased at Kroger. — Dairy and produce aisles featured all the basics, and reasonable prices as well. — Employees are lovely, and again, I’m in love with their meat department. I’m so happy to find a *real* butcher in Charlottesville. The Bad — Produce department is limited — which is fine, they have the basics. But if you’re looking for Papaya, Bok Choy, or any other specialty produce, look elsewhere. — Dairy is also limited. You’ll find everything you’d need to stock your kitchen, but your aged Stilton and Drunken Goat’s Milk Cheese won’t be found here. The Verdict — Don’t expect a suburban-anglosaxon-soccer-mom-grocery store experience. If you know your animal parts and your cheap cuts of meat, Reid’s is awesome. — If you survive on Chicken Breasts and don’t know a Shank from a Picnic Roast, shame on you. «Unloved» cuts of meat are often the most flavorful, and simply need a little bit of TLC via braising or slow roasting. Educate yourself, and help ensure that no part of the animals you eat go to waste.

I think they actually do have a flashy banner now! Easier to spot from the street.
