Shenandoah Joe Coffee Roasters

This is not a typical Unilocal review but bear with me…
My husband travels for work and was going to be in Charlottesville for his 40^th birthday; we just had a baby and I know leaving was especially hard this time so I wanted to make sure his day was a little special, even if he did have to work.
I reached out to Shennandoah Joe to see if they could help — my husband loves coffee, and that’s putting it mildly; he roasts his own codes at home and its a total coffee snob — so I was hoping to have some sort of gift delivered with coffee beans and a latte to keep him going. I was put in contact with Dave who took my idea and ran with it. He put together an amazing gift box with roasted beans — that he can grind while on the road — and green beans — that he can roast when he comes home. Dave was incredibly helpful and had no problem delivering to the John Paul Jones Arena, which is where my husband was working that day.
My husband loved the gift box that Dave put together and he said that the latte was great!

Great place… warm and cozy with friendly staff and delish drinks! On a Sunday morning I met a coffee date and it was the perfect location for being able to chat and get to know someone without feeling like you are in a hectic/​chain-​like coffee shop. And… they have booths!!! I LOVE booths! They also have a small seating area with plush chairs (this space seemed to be occupied with laptop folks. While I can’t attest to their coffee drinks, their soy chai was to-​die-​for!!! If you are in C’ville or driving through and need a pick me up, I recommend you check out Shen Joe’s.

Not a massive selection, but pretty good coffee and nice atmosphere

I love that they roast their coffee and offer a variety of blends and single origins but the unique flavor notes were not successfully extracted. I won’t return.

I love to study at this place and the coffee is definitely the best in Charlottesville. Get there early Friday– Sunday if you want to find a seat!

I love the pour over! This is my favorite place to get coffee. Most other coffee shops in C-​ville I will get an americano because the drip coffee isn’t great but the espresso is. This place has it all.
My husband gets mochas mostly. I tasted his and thought it was the best I’d tried– not too sweet and a more complex flavor. He thought it was just okay.
The only drawback is the lack of food. They have a few sweets and that’s it.

One of the things I miss most about Charlottesville. The coffee is wonderful — LOVE the soy cappuccinos! — and this location in particular was my fav study spot. Please set up a location in Northern Virginia!

One of my favorite study spots in Charlottesville. The coffee is always great, good music and great environment to study/​work. The staff is always friendly and they get your order some fast. I’ve never had an issue with parking and have always been able to find a table.

The establishment doesn’t look like much from the outside; I would’ve overlooked getting coffee here, had my friend not recommend giving this place a try. However, Shenandoah Joe’s been my go-​to coffee shop! I love the shop’s ambiance & its cozy setup. The staff’s friendly & I’m thoroughly appreciative of their choice of playlists. This location definitely has more space than the one on the Corner. Overall, it’s a great place to meet up with friends, relax, or study!
I’m going to rave about the simple latte that I ordered today– I think it was the best latte I’ve ever had. From previous experiences at other coffee shops, I tend to be disappointed with the foam on top because they’re usually flat or annoying to drink. However, the foam on today’s latte was as delicious as it was gorgeous! The thickness and creaminess of my latte was luxurious. I was impressed!
Their regular coffee is great as well. The blends I’ve tried were bold & stimulating– the way all coffee should taste. I’m thinking of purchasing a bag or two of their blends the next time I stop by!

Whether it’s the atmosphere of dark coffee shop floors with cozy study nooks and pendent lighting, or the artful pour over technique used by their baristas… I have to say I am a fan.
Shanandoah Joe’s is a good pick for days when I’m in the mood to linger. I like their detailed chalk board menus, the extremely accessible condiment bar by the door, and the relaxed feel of the place. From the cold brews, to the mocha, and then to a few espresso mixes, I’d say they have a consistently solid coffee. Depending on your style, they have a variation of smooth to rich and dark blends that will keep you happy and alert. I also really appreciate their free coffee cards located at the register that when completed, lead to a savory and free reward!

Service was good. Décor was perfect for a nice quiet cup of joe. Had the redeye with a Costa Rica blend. Excellent.

as a frequent visitor I am disappointed. I have some problem with the wifi and wait for a few minutes, with service busy making and serving coffee. I like the coffee and dessert here, but will not come so frequently due to less than satisfactory service.

I met a co-​worker for coffee here last Wednesday afternoon. There were a lot of people there, but there were plenty of open tables as well. It is located in a strip mall, but there are even some small tables outside too. It is a great place to work alone or meet someone for work or catching up. I had an iced green tea. It was pretty standard, but I enjoyed my experience, so I will definitely be back.

What a great place. it doesn’t look much from the outside, but when I say the way they brew the coffee (in stylish eco friendly brewing systems) I felt like we were in a coffee house in California. Service is quick and friendly and they have free Wi-​Fi.

I’m not a coffee drinker so I ordered the Breakfast Blend. Served in a cast iron pot with matching cup. Very stylish and the tea was just right. Service was attentive and selection not overwhelming. It’s nice when a tea drinker is welcome in a coffee shop and served properly. Thank you.

Tip though: be sure and ask how old the pastries are before buying. Occasionally you’ll get a cookie so old and hard you could crack a tooth on it. But the delicious coffee is still enough to balance out this downside.

My complaint about this place is that they close the doors early. What’s the point of a coffee shop that closes at 4pm? On one of the Sundays, I decided to study at a coffee shop, so I picked Shenandoah Joe for a change of pace. I got a cup of mediocre coffee and pulled out my laptop to study in the middle of the afternoon around 3:15pm. They closed on me at 4pm and didn’t even finish my coffee. The coffee is also nothing special, but they have Starbucks prices.
I recommend going to Barnes and Noble at Barrack road since they are open until 11pm and have Starbucks coffee.
