We have bought rugs from Saul Barodofsky and the Sun Bow crew for many years. My parents live in Charlottesville and have bought a number. On Thanksgivings when we are in town we stop in to check out the Thanksgiving sale, even if we just admire rugs and drink some tea. The rugs here are tribal and nomadic pieces, not mass-produced rugs, and are collected from families and sources with whom Saul has traded for decades. Chatting with him about his travels is fascinating and a form of living history. The staff at Sun Bow are always willing to show you rug after rug and are knowledgeable about the heritage of the pieces they sell. I have never had them feel that I asked for too many. They have bags, prayer rugs and other small textiles too. In addition to what they sell they exhibit some pieces also. The shop has moved a few times, and is currently a block or two off the Downtown Mall, and just behind the Farmer’s Market. Fun place to visit(and splurge on very memorable rugs which are pieces of art). A wonderful place to buy«living art»(beautiful, unique, with a history).
