Really good quality food at a good price. We came in with a squirmy toddler for an early dinner, and we got good service from understanding waitstaff. I had vegetable samosas and chicken tikka masala — both were excellent. The quality seems to be higher than Milan or Maharajah and the price is comparable to both those places.

Excellent, I’m so very satisfied with the food here, wouldn’t order from any other place when it comes with Indian food.

It’s hard dating a Unilocaler, since he’s basically say the same thing as me(see review below: P). I disagree with him on the rice, I thought it was fine. They had a moderate selection of buffet items, and everything tasted wonderful! Try the mango lassi, it is absolutely refreshing to drink with the heavier Indian food. Again, the service was attentive, fast, and very nice and polite. And it’s roughly 10 $ for the buffet– pretty good!

*Lunch buffet review* Solid lunch buffet selection for the price with excellent tandoori chicken and chicken chili, along with a lot of other tasty dishes. Rice was slightly dry from my taste, but it was pretty overshadowed by all the other food. Décor was really neat and the restaurant itself is fairly spacious with a good amount of seating, despite the fact that it’s in the basement. Service was also totally on point. Our water cups were never empty and someone was always coming by to pick up our plates. Thumbs up in my book. Definitely will hit this place up again.

Delicious and great choices of Indian buffet for Sunday brunch. They have good choices for vegetarian, from vegetarian pakora, chickpeas curry, zucchini massala, veggie korma. They served fresh naan and tandoori chicken also delish. Giving 5 stars for service staffs never let your water goes down. Definitely will be back again

Dreadful food. Bhaji was tough and tasteless, samosa was about 10 days old. Warm lassi. Not like any Indian food we’ve ever encountered — in India or anywhere else in the world for that matter. Extremely disappointing. Think these guys are writing their own reviews.

Lots of vegetarian options. If you want it spicy, they can bring the heat! Had a nice meal. Great service.

Came here for dinner w/friends and was very impressed. They’re hidden downstairs, but they also have the beautiful outdoor seating in the middle of the strip. Their mango yogurt drink was amazing, and we had ordered several diffferent dishes to test them out. All so delicious. Can’t go wrong w/anything you order.

I’ve been to the physical restaurant once or twice, but mostly I just order delivery.(Yes! They deliver!) All their vegan options are clearly marked as such and are superb. They also have two vegan Indian breads and the portions are sizable. DEFINITELY recommend.

Pretty darn good. I’ve had better but not by much. Friendly waitstaff and a fairly non adventurous menu would make this more of a local staple than a destination. No complaints!

Solid food for dinner and reasonable prices. As good as the other places in town and very low key. We like that we can walk here since it’s on the mall. Their lunch buffet is also good.

DONOTEATHERE. I just ordered a butter chicken entrée from A Taste of India and it was honestly the worst Indian food I have ever had in my life, and I hope I don’t get food poisoning. The chicken tasted like it was weeks old and I found at least two long bones in the sauce that could have cut my mouth. After finding the bones in the first few bites I threw it away because it was so inedible. I spent $ 23 on this meal and am completely unsatisfied and hope that nobody else has the same experience that I had.

I’ve never written a Unilocal review, but I felt moved to make my debut because I am absolutely obsessed with Taste of India. I moved to DC this summer and have yet to find a satisfactory Indian restaurant in the city – meanwhile, the past few times I’ve visited my boyfriend in Charlottesville we ended up eating here both nights of the weekend. My first visit, I ordered seafood tikka masala(comes with shrimp, scallops, fish) and was very impressed… however, I’m not the biggest fish fan, so ever since then I’ve ordered shrimp tikka masala(not exactly on the menu) and have always been accomodated. There are five designations for spiciness – mild, medium, medium-hot, hot, and extra spicy. For those who only like a hint of spice, I recommend medium; my boyfriend always gets hot chicken tikka masala and loves it. As for sides, I recommend the paneer naan(stuffed with paneer, so it’s very filling) or the basil naan. Both, like the rest of the food here, are extremely flavorful and tasty. As for service, the waiters are nice, friendly, and efficient, and the food always arrives quickly. We like sitting inside, though there’s an outdoor option as well; the atmosphere indoors is pretty intimate, as I’ve never seen more than three other tables occupied at one time. Yet another plus: portions are huge. I’ve been told the take-out portions are just as big, if not bigger. This is the best Indian food I’ve ever had in my life. While I haven’t tried any other Indian restaurants in Charlottesville, I don’t see a need when I’ve found a place this amazing.

Located in the basement, one of the many buildings on this delightful strip, the place may be hard to find, but boy is it worth it! I really enjoyed everything. From the service to my waiter… it all seemed to come together. We sat outside and had a great view to just people watch and enjoy the fresh air. Our waiter was so playful and interactive. We ordered wine which I didn’t really enjoy, but trying new things isn’t always a hit so that’s okay. I had a vegetarian assortment along with some seafood and I loved it! Get the mussels! the best part was that we did not feel rushed because they were so forthcoming about every single dish. They didn’t mind my questions and even helped me out with pronunciation. I had a wonderful experience here and can’t wait to come back again!

I had the worst Indian I have ever had in my life there tonight. My lamb vindaloo was hard and tasteless. No flavor whatsoever. The chili’s had simply been slapped on the outside making it impossible to eat, and my favorite Indian dish is hot lamb vindaloo. I ate may be 20% of the dish. I complained. They took away the food and brought me a bill with my meal included. I complained again and told the waiter that the chef should be ashamed of himself. Their only response was that they would take better care of me next time. I told him that there was not a chance that I would ever come back. I am 65 years old, consider myself to be a serious foodie, and this is the second time in my life that I can ever recall complaining about the food at a restaurant. Taste of India is a very bad joke. They should be ashamed.

We ate lunch here and it was a buffet, everything seemed to be very fresh and tasted excellent! I helped myself to some fresh naan, chili chicken, fresh sauces, chutneys, baingan bharta, and chicken tandoori; I enjoyed every bite and I even went back for seconds! Not only was everything great it was also quite affordable at just $ 8.95! The service was also quite good. We walked in to check out the buffet before deciding whether we would stay and once we decided to do so we were seated right away, and our waiter was very nice.

This restaurant replaced the Henry’s on DT Mall. I went there after a friend recommended that it is good, and better than Milan. Food was average, at best. Lunch Buffet was more expensive than Himalayan Fusion on the DT. May be alacarte is better. Pakistani place on the Corner has much softer naans. So, don’t go in with really high expectations.
