Stopped by here for a couple of beers with some buddies. It wasn’t too packed and we got our beers quick. I really enjoy the fact they have a small outdoor area but I was absolutely loving this place when they had a live band playing Irish music! Love it! I’ll definitely be coming back here to grab more beers and try out the food.

Everything I had was fantastic! I split the shepherd’s pie and Irish trifle with a friend, and it was plenty of food. The shepherd’s pie was so good — the mashed potato on top was super fluffy, the lamb was really tender and flavorful. The onion wasn’t too strong. The trifle was my first, so I didn’t expect the layering in the fancy glass, and to my delight, it was more custard than pound cake. The raspberry flavor was deliciously soaked into the pound cake. We also each got the whistler cocktail, which is Clontarf Irish whiskey, iced earl grey, honey, and lemon. Love the setting too! And the live music!

Great Irish pub. Food is authentic as Dublin. Owner and waitstaff are pleasant and happy to serve. Best fish and chips and bangers around. Have some kind of entertainment almost every night. Check it out!

Small little place across from the downtown mall. Small lunch menu but good food and good service.

My colleague and I went for lunch yesterday. The service was friendly and fast but the 5 stars are for me the shepherds pie. Hands down the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly seasoned. The lamb must be ground on site because it’s got a perfect texture. It felt like eating a perfect lamb dinner with mashed potatoes and carrots. Do yourself a favor. Order the shepherds pie.

My wife and I wen there Friday night. I was worried it would be a college hangout(not that there is anything wrong with that) because I wanted a nice date with my wife. I just didn’t want a loud atmosphere. What a nice place. And the crowd was my age. :-) Seems it could be a little less crowded and easier to get around but the music and folks were nice and the food was really good. We had Coddle Soup, Cheese Toasties, Shepherd’s Pie and the best Scotch Egg I ever had. For those you not familiar with it, it was amazing and worth the price… Loved the music and the dancers, too! Going to be a go-to place for us!

Friends of mine love this place — I think it’s pretty good. A little disappointed I had to teach the bartender how to make a lager shandy, but other than that, food good, service good…

I’m alway on the hunt for a good and traditional Irish pub after having spent 2 months in Ireland last year. The Tin Whistle is a great option in Charlottesville for this feel. They offer a few traditional food options(Irish Breakfast, Soda Bread, Mussels, Beef & Guinness Stew, etc.) and what I had was great. It is a small location which gives you that cozy and welcoming feeling you get in any Irish pub and of course they pour their Guinness properly. The service was wonderful and I will definitely be going back. I had a REALLY great night here. The only things keeping me back from a 5-star rating are: I wish they played traditional live music and had more Irish beer options. And curry sauce. Curry sauce for the fries would be a wonder addition.

Best Guinness in town, friendly staff, live music. As a vegetarian, I can’t speak to whole menu, but I was pleased with my options; the spinach salad and the cottage pie.

Oh, the Tin Whistle. I had been hearing about it since opening day so I had to stop in eventually. I met a friend here on a weekday evening for happy hour and catching up. The indoor area is small and intimate. I was jealous of those visiting in the warmer months — the outdoor seating area is in a welll-landscaped nook close to the downtown mall. Our table was wiggly, but our waitress immediately noticed and got down on the floor(!) to remedy it by stabilizing the offending leg. Our food was good, the baked beans are in a light sauce with an onion tang vs. a more heavy barbecue. Drinks were as expected and conversation was uninterrupted. Not a new favorite but certainly a worthy place for dinner or drinks!

I wanted to visit this place since I saw it on Unilocal.I got to go for lunch. First, when I arrived I found flyer that instructed me to text«tinwhistle» to 55469 for special offers. That gained me a free small order of cheddar chips(fries). These fries were awesome. I know that you can get cheesy fries almost anywhere, but the cheese used on these fries was real cheddar cheese, not something out of a bag. I ordered the fish and chips for lunch. The piece of battered fried fish I received looked like a whale sitting on the mound of chips. It was absolutely huge. The batter was light and crispy. The chips.. . Oh the chips were thin, and flavorful. All in all, worth the price(which was about $ 13). In the background, traditional and modern Irish music played until the football(soccer) match came on. The staff were friendly and on time. This was a very good lunch experience and I recommend you come by if in the area.

The food is SOGOOD! We got the Fish and chips, scotch eggs and the wedge salad. The prices are very reasonable. The first time I went they had a good bluegrass band. The second time I went they had a trivia night which was pretty fun. Cozy lil spot off EMarket.

Just here for drinks. Great service, atmosphere, and music. Sitting outside on the patio under the trees with the white lights. Listening to Whetherman on his national tour. Happy local joint in cville.

Delicious food! Yes, it’s Irish pub food, but if you go there knowing that, it’s awesome. I had never heard of a Scotch egg but it was epic.(Hardboiled egg, wrapped in sausage, breaded, and fried.) We also enjoyed the atmosphere and great service. Can’t wait to come back!

Walked in around 1.30 Saturday and asked the lady at the bar if they were still serving food — assumed so but just to be safe. Was told yes and took a seat at a table. And sat. And sat. And sat. Lady at the bar continued conversation with customer. Other people ate around me but no sign of servers. No menu, no water, no… notice. I continued to sit and read on my phone. Finally hunger pangs drove me out the door. Completely unnoticed. I did wonder if it was my English accent but I never received service or lack of like that in the 3 years I lived in Dublin. Thanks.

Charlottesville finally has a pub! The staff is great, the drinks and conversations flow in a neighborly atmosphere. I love the breakfast, but you get it on the dinner menu, go figure.

We stopped into Tin Whistle on a Friday night after a beer release at Champion. It was within walking distance, and I had heard about it via where to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day articles. By the time we arrived, we were starving! We were seated right away at a table by the window. The interior leaves a little something to be desired. The server was very helpful in suggesting beers. They had a decent selection of local brews and more traditional Irish ones. We started off with the Irish cheddar chips. They arrived quickly, and we practically licked the plate clean. Since it was a Friday during Lent, I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was lightly battered and very flavorful, and the chips were plentiful. By the time I was done with my meal, I was on chip overload. My boyfriend got the Shepherd’s pie, which he also enjoyed. The server was super friendly and provided fast service. All in all, I would visit Tin Whistle again.

Was treated to outstanding live Irish music and wonderful food tonight! The bangers and mash as well as the fish and chips were top notch. The Guinness gravy on the bangers was rich and delicious. I’ve been waiting for years for a proper pub to open on town, I’m sure this will become a regular spot. (oh, and don’t let the photo fool you — they’re decent pours! I just happened to take a pull before I took the photo.)
