Chatham Hill

My wife and I lived here for 2 years before moving back to CA.
I’ll get this out of the way: Yes, the price is high. It is Chatham, NJ, and if you are looking anywhere in the area, you know the price will be high.
For the money, you do get a nice apartment. The grounds and surrounding area is very quiet and well kept. A garage with tons of storage is included with every unit. The units (mine a least) included very nice appliances with a washer and dryer included.
I do not have any compliments or complaints for the staff. I did not really have much interaction with them. There is an automated phone alert system that will call to you let you know about things happening on the property, however it often calls you a good four hours or so after the event has already happened. I always paid rent online.
My biggest complaint with this apartment is the build quality. My wife and I were on the top floor, and the floors were so squeaky and the walls are crazy thin! I am going to be as honest as possible and say that there was only 40% of the floor that did not squeak. I could hear my next door neighbors pretty easy, and my down stair neighbors and I could have a conversation through the floor.
Overall, the place is just OK. If you don’t move around a lot and don’t mind being able to hear your neighbors talk, fight, having sex or cooking, then the place is great. :-)

I wish I could give this property negative stars, it’s THAT BAD.
If you’re psyched about the doggie park don’t be, it’s ALWAYS empty, ALWAYS!
One of the WORST rental experiences I have ever had. They sold me on getting one of their «upgraded» apartments without seeing it first and I am really regretting my decision. I’m paying hundreds of dollars more a month for what were supposed to be nicer appliances and nothing else, except the appliances have dozens of large dents and look awful! I asked for a reduction in rent and they’re not budging.
They are also the LEAST RESPONSIVE rental company I’ve ever rented from, they reply to 25% of my emails and phone calls and when they do, it’s WEEKS later.
I can also hear everything that my upstairs neighbors do, and it’s not because they’re particularly noisy, it’s the quality of the building that lets me hear entire conversations they have in normal voices.
I also found the former tenants’ dirty laundry between the wall and the washing machine, and they didn’t fix one of the chewed up footboards in the apartment until I complained about it 3 times.
Go pretty much ANYWHERE else, seriously.

I lived here for a year. The place was very updated with new appliances and each unit included a garage which was a nice added bonus. They tried to bring the community together with a BBQ event at the pool which was nice. Its in walking distance to shops. The staff was always very helpful and responded quickly to any maintenance requests. Only downfall was the price and there’s not much room to negotiate.

I figured the other reviewer was a disgruntled person — the people I met were very nice. Unfortunately they basically are used salesman. Every question you have you’ll hear «no problem». The thing is when you have a problem, it really is your problem. To get someone to address an issue is a nightmare. They will contradict themselves just to get you into an apartment or to transfer to another apartment. And they will run up the rent just because they can. There are plenty of other apartments in nearby towns (that also accept pets) that are much better priced. I would not recommend renting here — don’t be fooled by the sales pitch.
