Over the years, we have camped here numerous times. The sites are very private if you choose carefully and the lake is absolutely beautiful. Carters Lake is supposedly the cleanest lake in Georgia since there aren’t any big cities or major development upstream from it. The dam is the tallest earthen dam east of Mississippi river according to the Army Corps of Engineers. Be sure and take your fishing pole and don’t miss hiking or mountain biking on Amadahy Trail which is on the road between Woodring and Hwy 282. Don’t pass up a chance to visit here.

Had a spectacular Labor Day Weekend camping with friends up at Woodring Campground on Carters Lake in northern Georgia. This place is pretty easy to get to from 75 coming from Atlanta. The campground is directly on the lake and all sites have water views, many with easy access to the lake and lake beaches. Carters Lake was beautiful and much less busy than Lanier or Allatoona, especially for a holiday weekend. The staff here were wonderful, although they are very strict about you getting your stuff out by the 3pm deadline. There were clean bathrooms with full showers, not gross at all. There were boat ramps, a beach area, lots of dogs(pet friendly), coke machines, a nearby hiking trail, an ice machine, and lots of cool people. The walk in tent sites where we stayed were an easy walk from the car, but fairly close to one another, so having great neighbors made the weekend perfect. There are also a lot of RV spots if that is your thing. Each site had a fire pit with removable grill top, a separate cooking grill, a large picnic table, and a tall post with hooks for lanterns or garbage or whatever. No problems with critters getting into your garbage, but did see some deer at the site. Overall, a great site for tent campers and RVers, with lots of opportunities to swim, hike, fish, boat, and just chill. And if you ask super nicely, you may even be able to get some boaters to come pick you up at your site :)
