Lived here for just over two years and only moved out because I was changing jobs and cities. The HH is a lovely old building, built in the teens, and while updated to be more comfortable still has a lot of charm left over — marble staircases, high ceilings, wood detailing, and a neat old(original?) service elevator. Some of the updates are very 70s(don’t miss that yellow main elevator!) but on the whole it’s really a building with character. The management company was always very friendly and responsive, always answering emails or even answering the off-hours emergency line when needed. Maintenance requests were seen to very promptly, often the same day, by a competent and very friendly technician. Good pest control, excellent recycling program, adequate though pricey laundry facilities. Rent was very reasonable for downtown Chattanooga, and they were more than willing to work with me when I had a sudden job change and needed to move(no penalty for breaking the lease a few months early, and I still got my entire deposit back quickly). The only thing that could make the place better would be free parking, especially since there’s nowhere for visitors to park close without feeding a meter during the day, but in the downtown area it’s not surprising. Parking can be difficult during games or other large events at the McKenzie Arena, and you’ll get typical city noise, but otherwise it’s a very peaceful location. Tenants tend to be quiet professionals working downtown, and noise issues are dealt with promptly. If I ever move back to Chattanooga, I’ll probably want to move back to the Hogshead.
