Great service, small little place. The food was great and prices are awesome. Definitely stop in!

Pretty good ribs. Little overcooked but pretty tasty overall with a lot of meat, char, and full smoky flavor The coleslaw and potato salad werent bad. My wife got the big baked potato with pulled pork. One of the best potatos I’ve ever had. The pork was moist and flavorful. I also liked the inexpensive kids menu, $ 1.50 for a corndog was very fair.

Not a large or fancy place but excellent food at a good price. Only a few tables so space may be issue but it was perfect for late lunch. We had pulled pork, brunswick stew, bbq beans all great. And owner stopped by to check on us as well.

We were travelling on family vacation, and just happened to stop in the area for the night. Being in the south we had to get some BBQ, but had no idea where to go. We went here on the reccomendation of the people working at our hotel. This place is SMALL, but don’t let that get to you. They have counter service and a drive through that was busy the whole time we were there. We walked in and the friendly girl behind the counter told us to have a seat and she’d be with us. We ordered sweet tea, baby back ribs, and the chopped pork, finished off with banana pudding. The ribs were fall off the bone tender with a great flavor, and the sauce came out on the side. My son almost licked his plate clean his pork sandwich was so good; and my pork plate, slaw and fried okra werent to be beat. I’ve had«sweeter» sweet tea, but that doen’t mean it was better, I had two glasses and it was definitely the right flavor. The banana pudding was the perfect simple dessert to finish off this simple and delicious meal. The owner came out and talkes to us for several minutes about our trip and where we were from, and the rest of the staff was more than polite. We may make this a new roadtrip destination!

Excellent. It’s a little restaurant out of the way but well worth a visit. The chopped pork platter was delicious. Definitely try the cold slaw and the fried okra. My husband had the stuffed potato with pork and he loved it. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous and it is family friendly.

Four of us ate there on the way to Orlando(WI). The food was good, really liked the pork. This atmosphere was great, the owner and staff couldn’t be nicer. The bill came $ 34, which is the probably the cheapest we will eat at a «sit-down» on this trip.

Ok, I’m not a potato salad person(except for my mom’s) but this has got to be the BEST! The pulled beef and okra were great as well! My husband ordered the large rib plate with coleslaw and baked beans. Everything was just great! The owner came out and checked on us. Just nice, great service, amazing food and large plates! I keep saying«GREAT» because that is the best word to describe Hickory Pit. Another family was in there from Ohio and found out about it from TripAdvisor. We found out from Unilocal

I’m not quite sure I understand the 4.5 star average rating for this place. While the barbecue was perfectly fine and nothing to complain about, it really was just okay. The actually eating area is small, small, small. 5 tables. A counter. A restroom. There’s a little additional seating on the patio area in front of the restaurant, but not much. We went right when it opened on a Saturday morning and were the only ones there, so not an issue for us, but if the place gets as busy as its rating implies… you could have an issue eating there. The counter and the drive-thru — one cool thing about this place — provide some alternative options for the limited seating issue. The service is your traditional southern hospitality with healthy does of ultra conservative. The menu still lists«Freedom Fries» instead of «French Fries». Just keep that in mind when you’re considering if the atmosphere is right for you and your family. The food was on the average side. BBQ Pork Sandwich was pretty typical. Fried pickles had good seasoning. Everything was a little too greasy for my liking, even for friend food and BBQ. The sweet tea was fine. If you’re in the area, not a bad stop by any means. If you’re not, don’t go out of your way. If you’re really into barbecue, don’t get your hopes up.

Just average bbq. I was expecting something fantastic based on the rating, but was slightly disappointed. Don’t get me wrong the food was good, just nothing to write home about. The sauce was nothing special, the cole slaw was weird and the beans were just beans. The workers were extremely nice though. Overall if you like bbq you’ll like this place, but if you’re a bbq lover you won’t love this bbq.

Tried this place for the first time with a friend who raved about it and was not disappointed! I had a «small» cheeseburger and the dynamo bites(fried broccoli and cheese) and both registered in my top five ever. The staff(all family, I gathered) was fast, friendly, and funny. Everything was neat and clean. I can’t wait to go back. On a drool-worthy scale, I’d put this place at «need a bib» level.

Passed the restaurant the first time. Looked closed. But as soon as exited our vehicle, the aroma of the bbq was in the air. The interior is small. I think they do a lot of to go orders. The tea is great. Not too sweet. I ordered a killer baked potatoe with pork. Omg. So good. An explosion of taste in my mouth. I loved it. Thank goodness I don’t live here. I would be so fat. Loved it. Would come again. My hubby ordered the beef plate and he cleaned his entire plate off. Good portions. Not too much.

My wife and I are just down for the night. I asked the front desk manager about good BBQ and he recommended this place. It is such a tiny place,(5 tables.) We ordered the baby back ribs slab. It was excellent, it was a dry rub, with sauce on the side. We got so many recommendations from people and from Unilocal, but we decided to try this. The service was attentive and courteous. We had fried okra, fried mushrooms and French fries and two soft drinks. If they had beer it would have gotten the extra star.

So glad I took a chance to stop in here and try the ribs. I had a full order and they were AMAZING. I am a self proclaimed rib expert and in my opinion these were excellent slow cooked, fall off the bone tender ribs. The small old charm inside makes you feel like you are at home and the staff and owner were very nice. I would definitely recommend it and will be back!

The ambience is very«bbq pit» the servers are super nice and helpful. But the bbq isn’t special. I really wanted it to be good but it was just barely average. The ribs were well Cooked but lacked any character and soul. They tasted like salt and smoke with a little dash of sweet. But no bark or bite or even savory sweet profiles. The chopped pork was also just cooked plain pork. The sauce wasn’t special it tastes out of the jar. It’s not bad but it’s just lacking any depth and love. No passion in the food. The kids grilled cheese and the tator tots were staples and cooked great. Slaw is a minced slaw and it’s good. Liked the potato salad as well even with a heavy mayonnaise base.

Well… Unilocal let us down on this one. We were on vacation in Georgia and wanted some BBQ. Of course we asked Unilocal for its recommendation and we got Hickory Pit Bar-B-Que. So we made the trip to Tennessee. We should’ve gone somewhere else. The joint is small with limited seating. The service was just fine. We ordered the BBQ baked potato, pork sandwich and chopped beef plate. The potato was bland and the toppings were an amalgamation of über-sweet BBQ sauce, bland pork, and chives. The pork sandwich was bland. The meat tasted like it had been reheated. The chopped beef would have been decent, but it was flooded with that super sweet sauce, drowning out any flavor the meat could’ve had. In the end, BBQ is a very hard thing to do well. We have only found 2 places that serve good ‘Q. This is not one of them.

Avoid this place. Odd bbq menu and food is far from authentic bbq. Had the loaded potato with beef and nothing to write home about. Loaded with gross bbq sauce and not much else for flavor.

Regular, good ol’ bbq. It’s not a fancy place, but the food is homemade and real good. We had spare ribs, a loaded baked potato, baked beans, and fried okra. The bbq sauce is just right, not too thick, with the perfect level of sweetness. The baked potatoe had just the right ratio of meat and sauce to sour cream and cheese, and was a meal itself. The baked beans are the kind that make you feel like you’re back in mama’s kitchen, and the okra was lightly battered and fried to golden brown deliciousness. For dessert, we tried their homemade apple pie, and banana pudding. Thumbs up all the way. We will definitely be back when we’re back in town!
