I am not sure why my previous review was removed. But I will gladly post it again. I am writing on behalf of the Music Instruction Studio, 8 weeks of private lesson, located in Chattanooga, TN. You sent me a survey after I attended the first class and because I wanted to give it a fair shake, I did not write one but based on the fact that I am very dissatisfied with their services, I am also requesting a partial/full refund. I waited almost 8 months to use the Groupon because I was waiting on a teacher by the name of Michelle young. She had a website presence and I felt my voice, which needs to be re-trained after years of being on an hiatus, would be a good fit. I loved her alto mezzo soprano new ago singing and thought I would do well under her musical guidance. My hopes were dismissed after I met her on the first day(August 20, 2012). The first thing she asked for was an extra $ 15 for a practice CD with less than 15 minutes of vocalizes on it. I felt rushed and pressured to buy it. She asked are you prepared to buy it(and I wasn’t in her presence 10 minutes of the 30 minutes lesson) so I thought this would be used extensively throughout the class and hoped it would help my particular tenor voice. I am still waiting for a receipt. I do not believe she reports this on her taxes and I felt dirty while purchasing it. She played the CD but we never sang a note the first class so I asked when are we going to do the lesson? She stated, oh I just want to get to know you. I thought this was odd but I was warned by the receptionist that this teachers method were not orthodox so I said I would give it a chance. Her instruction of vocalize consisted of a smiley face drawn on a post it note and she used that as her visual ad? Again, I thought I was cheap and weird but went along. She also had a mirror that she could see but the student could not in the back of me and asked me did I see the vocal shapes I was making with my mouth. Again, I thought it strange but went along. When I played the CD, it was horrible. It was someone doing a half scale of vocalize that was not geared toward a tenor voice. It was a general vocalize CD that should have cost $ 3 at the most. I felt cheated but this was only the beginning. I told the instructor I was in vocal trouble and needed some guidance in terms of getting my voice back into shape. Since I had not been singing regularly for years, although, I had been trained to sing opera, gospel, R and B, jazz and Broadway and classical music. She suggested I listen to and sing her vocalize and to prepare a song to sing for her the following week. The whole class no instruction was given but we discussed her website and some of the projects I was working on. I felt it was a complete waste of my time. She did not give me any suggestions on what to do about my voice that seemed tired and was cracking as I pushed to reach the higher notes in the repertoire. When we started the lesson, although she was late, she still continued to tell me about her computer problem with Windows XP. I did not want to hear nor did I want her to take up anymore of my 30 minutes. About 10 minutes into the class, she stared in about vocalize again and stated why am I not doing what she requested. I told her, look we have not gone over vocalize since the first class and it was not covered again until now. The only thing that got my voice back in shape is vocal rest and that instruction was not provided by you. At the end of the fourth week(September 17, 2012), I called the receptionist and asked for a different instructor. She stated she had another one in mind and gave me her name. Then set it up for a Tuesday, then she told me the time. I told the receptionist that I was only available at 6pm or later and that time would not work. She insisted she would find me an instructor even if she had to go outside the school. I am thinking to myself, why would I got outside the school when I have already paid for this one and I have not received 4 out of my 8 lessons that I have paid for? I have waited for over a month(October 22, 2012) and the receptionist has not called me back nor given me a referral. I no longer want to use this music school and I want a full or at least partial refund. I will write an online review and tell all my friends and family to stay clear of this school because all the instructors want to do is waste your time and do other things other than provide quality instruction.
