This is not your parents’ burrito buggy. Many years ago their menu was much simpler. Only a couple of different things to order, and they were all pretty good. Seems like things have gotten more complicated as they have gone downhill. I have not been even remotely impressed the past couple of times I have eaten at the Burrito buggy. There are other, more exciting food truck options in Athens now. That said, I have nothing specifically poor to claim about the food. Just not as good as it used to be, and not as good as other options nearby.

Sitting next to the burrito buggy at buckeye lake. I was expecting scratch made food truck tex mex. The salsa is chi-chi thick and chunky sams club, tostidos chips and great value ranch/blue cheese for«specialty tacos». Enough said.

Worst thing I’ve eaten in Athens. Not sure what was more disturbing; the poor cleanliness of the prep area, the brown bottle of hot sauce that looked about 10 years old, the off tasting pickled jalapeños or the unseasoned ground beef they used as meat. Only ate an 8th of it and threw it away. Felt sick the rest of the night. Do not eat here!

After a 15 year break, I’ve had the Buggy twice this year. I was concerned that it wouldn’t be as good as I remember. I’m older, typically more sober, maybe it’s not as good. I’m so glad I went back. Somehow, it’s just as good as I remember. The classics taste exactly the same. They’ve added a lot that I haven’t tried yet. The chips are worth it. The Texas Bacon Ranch is good, unless you get a bite without bacon or ranch, then it’s just ok. Very worthy of being an Athens institution.

Good chicken rice and bean burritos. Also liked the guac. Great late night treat.

«Healthy, not greasy» is not what I want when I’m ready to chow down on a burrito! I was expecting greasy deliciousness, not fresh veggies! With that being said, once you know what you’re in for the Burrito Buggy is pretty decent for a quick bite between classes or after a late night of drinking. Their low prices keep it much more«budget friendly» than Chipotle. All in all, it seems that everyone at OU has their favorite burrito spot. The clan of Chipotle has vast numbers on campus, but followers of Big Mama’s and Burrito Buggy still hold strong. My best advice would be to try them all and figure out what’s your go-to place! :)

Agree with Todd M’s review. I’ve been to all the burrito hot spots around the country and this isn’t half as good. For the midwest though it’s not too bad. The portion sizes are ok, the food is reasonably tasty, and they’ve got some interesting options. That said, the thing that keeps the buggy on the map is that it’s open late and is an Athens icon. With Chipotle now open across the street I’d rather go there.

You cannot rate The Burrito Buggy normally. It is an Athens Icon. If the food were barely passable, it would still be important. As it is, the burritos are above average for the Midwest. I live in Dallas now, so my perspectives are different. I can remember one night, in 1995, I think. My friend Mike and I came upon a besieged Buggy Warrior, with a line of enraged(read: hungry and drunk — drungry) students backed around the corner. We asked the Warrior if he needed assistance, and when he accepted, we boarded the famous Buggy and began to help prepare burritos. When the hoard had been vanquished, he was kind enough to offer us a free burrito a piece, and we wandered off into the kind of Athenian Night as only those who have lived them know. The rating stars should go to eleven, from a purely personal, experiential, biased perspective.

I haven’t been to this place in many years, but it was always THESLAM, during late drunken nights in Athens.

Portion size is average as is the price. I found the burritos to be plain and not very flavorful, even with jalapenos. It was also like eating Chinese food because I was hungry 30 minutes after eating my burrito. About the only way you can rate this place more than 3 stars is after eating there at 2:15AM.

Finally ate here for the first time the other day and got the veggie burrito with black beans and jalapenos. I think it cost around $ 4.50 and it was a pretty good burrito with lots of fresh and tasty ingredients. It’s definitely a step above the other street food stands that surround it and a great option if you’re in a hurry.

Not as good as chipotle… but very good none-the-less.

The BEST burritos. Healthy… not greasy. Love the red beans option. They’re always loaded with fresh veggies. Plus, it’s cheap eats! Who doesn’t like cheap, healthy food made in a buggy???
