Doughty’s Island Market

Compared to the little shop on Cliff Island the prices are really good here. It’s worth taking a peek to see what a general store is like on a small island! No bathroom though!

This place reminded me of Cheers, where everyone knows your name. This is small town New England at its best. The Owners care about their customers and it shows.
They should have a sign out the door, if you dont have at least 20 minutes to stop in and say hello, then don’t stop by. While I was there I was offered something that was like a magic Bar on Steroids. It was simply delicious. The owner should sell them in the store.
It’s a no frills Market, that has all the essentials. The best part, the prioes were really reasonable. Its clear this is a family run business, because a chain would never keep the prices so reasonable. Lets face it, on an Island you would not have many choices.
This was my second time on the Island Chebeague and with each visit, I come to realize there are still small town places in New England where everyone knows your name and more importantly cares about you.
When I took the Bus from the parking to the Ferry Dock to get to the Island. Everyone was helping everyone. Everyone said hello to everyone.
All a first time visitor to the island would have to do is hang by the market. Have a cup of coffee and before long they would become part of the extended family of this store.
This is a great place to get a cup of coffee. Rumor has it, they may soon offer ice cream.
