Since I was a kid, my dad has taken me to Yanagi, every Friday, back when Cherry Hill Mall’s food court was in the center of the mall. This restaurant is what inspired my growing love for sushi at such a young age. No matter where I go, South jersey philly area, nothing compares. I remember drinking miso out of a straw back when my feet couldn’t even touch the ground in those awful original food court chairs. Today I went over to get my favorite green tea, and their God send udon to find a big wall in my favorite spot. I lost my dad in ’08 to cancer so I feel like a part of me died today seeing this place closed. Will be doing some research to find the guys who ran this place and will be eating at their place for eternity. Cherry Hill mall, you f**ked up.

So sad to find that this located is closed. It was my favorite spots for tempura udon. Haven’t found another place in the area that comes close.

Makes me so sad this place closed… Seriously. This is my go to place if I want real sushi fast. «REAL» Sushi(If you know how to differentiate the taste of Good Sushi). Get it? Not really sure why this place closed, but this is one of the best places to eat when at the mall. Friendly service! VERYFRIENDLYSERVICE!

CLOSED! Regretfully this location is now closed. They were great sushi. The people who had a problem with it being in a mall are fucking morons. The same people who probably overpay to eat Sushi at a restaurant prepared by Chinese because they can’t differentiate between sushi prepared by people from Japan and any other Asian person. But hey it’s the suburbs. The lady was nice who worked there and so was the grampa who spoke Japanese. Last time I was in Japan a colleague took me to Sukiyabashi Jiro. I know, it couldn’t possibly live up to the hype, but it was before the documentary. And I honestly preferred this Sushi to Sukiyabashi’s. And there wasn’t an enormous wait time. You live. You learn. The last day of this establishment was New Year’s EVE. So I am guessing it was the rent of the Cherry Hill Mall. Alas, a similar fate of the Taco Bell. Rest in Sushi Yanagi.

I really love stopping by here when I come to the mall. Their sushi and platters are always on point. I usually get the chicken and rice. Their salads are always fresh and I love their miso dressing. Its nice knowing that they cook your food as your order and it hasn’t been sitting around. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. The restaurant is in a mall cafeteria so finding seating isn’t a problem. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends when we go to the mall.

I really like this sushi place. Most that I go to are overpriced, ostentatious, and their fare is not worth the wait or the expense. Yanagi Too is the best place to go to get sushi to take home for the evening in front of the TV, or to sit and enjoy when shopping at the mall. I have never had a bad set of sushi from here. The fish is always fresh, the people behind the counter friendly, and everyone is right on top of being very clean about how they keep the place, make the food, and present it. The pricing is just right. and the offerings are wide enough to suit most peoples likes and wants, without having too much to offer.

Easily the BEST sushi spot in the area. Their ingredients are always fresh. The service is quick. It’s a plus to see the guys making your roll as you wait. The prices are very reasonable. The best rolls are their spider roll and American dream. The spider roll is huge crisp and has the perfect drizzle of sauce. The American dream is a melt in your mouth dream come true. It’s shrimp tempura wrapped with rice seaweed and the best part avacado and salmon mmmm. They top with sprouts and spicy mayo. Really a dream come true! Don’t forget their iced green tea!

The chicken teriyaki is slightly sweet which is different but good. The prices are typical of your mall food. They offer a lot of different variety. I want to eventually try the Udon soup based on others’ recommendations. The green tea was a bit TOO sweet for my taste. I was hoping the ice would water it down a bit, but even then it was way too sweet. I wish they served steamed veggies instead of the ginger salad with the teriyaki.

Not bad for the area and for the price. I’ve had a variety of items ranging from the rolls to combination specials. good spot for a quick lunch

My favorite food court eatery in Cherry Hill Mall. Since I don’t really eat Japanese food/sushi, I always stick with my teriyaki chicken and California rolls here. And my latest love is Vegetable Udon noodles.(chicken udon is too greasy and I don’t recommend it)

I love sushi and for being in a mall food court, it’s not too bad. We ordered the chicken combo with shrimp tempura with rice and a salad. We also ordered the salmon combo that came with rice salad and a california roll. The combos were average price and they gave good sized portions. I thought the salmon and salads were good. I am not a fan of sweet sauce on my steamed rice which this location had. The shrimp tempura and the california rolls were decent. I would like to try this place again but maybe try one of their popular rolls. They are fast and courteous.

Good food for a sushi place in a food court. Good prices too for the quality of the food

They’re Japanese! For me, that’s a big deal, especially when eating o-sushi. However, I never ate the o-sushi at this location. I wasn’t very trusting with a huge line that the person who was not seen was licensed in Japan to know how to cut the fish in order to remove the bad stuff correctly.(Groceries cook their o-sushi to avoid problems.) I could speak Japanese to the people at the front of the store, which gave me confidence about getting the right food and having it cooked correctly.(Don’t try that with Sarku Japan, since it’s a chain from Winter Park, FL who also run Asian Cajun places.) I always ordered gyoza(better than Chinese potstickers) and salad, plus tea. The gyoza were fried nicely and the salad was chilled with no brown spots. The tea was good quality and better than you expect from a food court store. I didn’t expect much and got more than that. If I had a way to assess the o-sushi chef, this review would be different. The last time I was in Oxford Valley Mall, they had a store there.

Yanagi has been in Cherry Hill Mall forever, I remember being a little kid and watching them roll sushi. I have eaten here on occasion while shopping and enjoy the food for the most part. Their teriyaki, tempura, and chicken katzu are delicious but their sushi is just so-so.

Very good for a food court restaurant!!! We eat here all the time, and I always get the Salmon Teriyaki. It comes with 5 California rolls, salmon, rice, and salad. It’s as good as any Japanese restaurant I’ve been to. I especially love the salad dressing!!!

This has got to be one of my go-to foods in Cherry Hill Mall Food Court, not to mention decent Japanese-inspired food. The chicken teriyaki, tempura, spicy tuna roll, and organic green tea with honey rocks my socks. My only gripe is that they cut the sushi too big, but that’s not too much of a big deal because you can ask them to cut them into smaller pieces. All in all, affordable and filling!

Yanagi,(both locations) are great not just as food court food. Kenji the owner also has locations in the Gallery too, but under a different name. I use to work here part time for a few years and the main sushi guy is Juan and he’s been there for over 20 years!!! They get shipments of fresh fish every other day and vegetables, so that’s why I feel confident in ordering my sushi platters here. Its comparable to other sushi restaurants as far as taste and quality, but instead of paying $ 12 a roll, you just pay $ 4 for the average roll. I never ate sushi before I worked here and now my friends and family eat sushi all the time, and we have tried every restaurant in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area.

First off, its in a mall??? Skeptical, but some of my friends like it, so my coworker & I went, I felt little at ease. I took a look at menu, Wow such nice assortment, from grilled, to tempura, to sushi combos, I got Sushi boy A, with salmon, sushi-2pcs, 2 rolls .on top of that. Alot of food, I couldn’t finish it, coworker got Soft shell crab platter, with tempura veggies& rice, it was huge. Wow. For it being in the mall, Quite fresh, rice was fresh, so was salmon. Hands down, for being in mall food court, Wow it delivered, my choice.& good prices, too. Go, wont be disappointed, plus they have organic Iced Green tea-great-too.

I am dithering back & forth between 3&4(yes, really — 4 stars) stars. I am giving it 3 stars because it’s mall susho — but I gotta say for mall sushi — it is pretty damned good. I had an American Dream roll, which is basically a shrimp tempura roll, draped in avocado & fresh salmon. The salmon was fresh and tasty, and the roll was garnished with an abundance of masago and 2 sauces, unagi(eel) sauce and spicy mayo. In future I will ask for the sauces on the side — or just for less sauce — it was a little too gloppy for my taste. I wish I had noticed they have brown rice — or I woulda had that for sure. I would definitely choose Yanagi over other food court options.
