The meal of fish and chips lunch special was good as usual, but in eating the cole slaw a twisted tie, like on a bread wrapper was in the cole slaw. The kitchen manager ID’d the object as such and apologized. The owner/manager or such, comp’d one $ 8.95 meal.

Just okay. I’ve eaten here half a dozen times or so over the years but it’s probably been a year or so since my last visit. They were packed on a Sunday night so we had a short wait to be seated. I would have actually preferred to wait a couple minutes longer rather than be seated at a table that was still very wet. Our server arrived promptly and took our drink orders. She took our dinner orders when she returned with our drinks a few minutes later. I was disappointed they were out of baked potatoes. Our orders were brought to our table in a timely manner and everything looked great. I only wish the food tasted as good as it looked. I was happy with my Sunday fish fry special, the fish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with a nice flavor though it was just slightly dry. My coleslaw was okay but my onion rings were stone cold and limp, really awful. I was going to send them back but by the time the server returned I just didn’t feel like bothering with it. My wife got a fried combo of flounder and crab cake, she was disappointed in both. The flounder looked good, beautifully breaded and lightly fried, but was just bland without much flavor. The crab cake was fried too long and had a slight burnt taste. Her french fries were delicious, crisp and hot, and the spinach casserole was pretty good. I thought the hush puppies were the best part of the meal, they were really delicious with a crispy exterior and a soft moist inside. I wish they had real butter to smear on them instead of just margarine. All things considered, the meal was okay but nothing special. If I return to Pirate’s Cove it will be on a Friday or Saturday when they have their prime rib available, I have enjoyed some very nice prime rib here in the past.

I’ve been here a couple of times and the food is consistently good. Their hush puppies are the best I’ve had and the cocktail sauce is the culinary equivalent of getting tear gassed. That’s a good thing. Once again I got the pile of pollack. It’s so much better than beer battered fish and chips that I’ve had. The coating is light and crisp instead of grease soaked. Jenny was awesome!

First time here, and the food was amazing and so much of it! I had the broiled scallops and crab-cake, which was a build your own broiled combo. My date had one of the specials, crab-cake stuffed flounder. He said it was very good, and he’s fussy about fish(don’t ask) Even the hush-puppies were great, almost like a sweetness to them, not at all dry. The green beans were not good, mushy, cooked in what appeared to be a bacon like substance. I would not recommend those. I picked this place because I liked the name, and thought it would be cool inside. No, the atmosphere did not match the name, in any way shape or form. There was a tv on with sports in the back dining area where we were. What?! TV? It is like they want to be a pirate sports bar? Its yellow, with flower paintings on the wall… not piratey at all! Not cove like, bright and noisey. Which isn’t bad, it was just disappointing. I was expecting a cove for pirates, what I got was his girlfriends version of what a pirate cove should be. Tell that wench to keep her flowers and make it more rustic. The waitress, don’t recall her name, was fine. It was Friday night, and she seemed a bit overworked(I never did get my vodka-cranberry drink). The thing that bothered me the most, and its minor and I don’t mean to seem petty; but the sides were brought out in like a cafeteria bowl… if your going to pay big bucks for dinner, I mean, get some nice bowls. They have cloth napkins and my mushy gross green beans came in a little hard plastic middle school lunch room bowl. Nothing in this place matched. Its like they nailed the food, but the that’s it. To net it out, I’m sure we will go again, because the food is so good, but now I know what to expect and its just a place to go for the food, not the experience.

WOW!!! Where do I start? The person who seated us had the personality of a wet cardboard box!!! The food was bleh!!! No seasoning! I had to dump malt vinegar all over my 32.99 seafood platter to get some flavor! The fries, hush puppies and baked potato was cold!!! This place has gone to hell in a hand basket!

The great calamari and welcoming atmosphere brought my husband and I back on this snowy day. I have to say I’m glad we decided to come back after our last failed visit. The calamari was amazing and we had the lunch special of fish, fries and coleslaw. One order was more than enough for the both us, and we even needed a to-go box. The service was great and we really enjoyed ourselves this time around.

I googled nearby seafood restaurants and this one came up with great reviews so I decided to try it. The place was crowded so there was a wait to be seated. While waiting we talked to a few people who frequent the restaurant. They had nothing but good things to say. I have to say the food was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be coming here again myself.

GREAT service, FUN wait staff, EXCELLENT food. I tried this place on a whim, and I’m so glad I did! I ordered the crab stuffed salmon, I chose the black beans, and corn bread as my sides… and MMMMMM! My friend also ordered the salmon, but he got the fries and coleslaw. He couldn’t get over how great the coleslaw was… to the point that I was sorry I didn’t order It myself. I suggest you also try this place, on a whim! :)

We have been here many times. Food is great. Daily specials make it a deal. We love the prime rib and fried fish. Service is hot or cold, we have had wonderful service and terrible service. We are usually too full for deserts. Price for the quality and volume of the food is good.

Such a disappointment. Tuna steak sandwich was flavorless, overwhelmed by the bun, and didn’t have the slightest hint of pink left in the tuna. The service was decent, drinks where good. Everything took awhile, when we where 1 of 6 tables. All shoved in the same area.

Last Sunday afternoon, my boyfriend & I decided to eat here for his birthday. We truly enjoyed our evening & will be back. My glass of acai berry Bellini, tasted great!!! She crab soup… DELICIOUS!!! He had a steak /shrimp entrée & I had crab cakes. We both had spinach casserole which was great & macaroni cheese was bland. Dessert was a baileys cheesecake which was very delicious also. Our waitress was very nice, attentive & polite. 11÷15÷15

We were looking for a different place to eat with class and quality at the same time, with s cozy environment. This was a excellent choice. The food was amazing, the service was awesome, and the owner cares about the people who dine. I love great service and great food, we’ll definitely be back!!!

All I can say is that we’ll be back! The fish, she-crab soup, stuffed salmon and hush pups were very delicious. The portion was really satisfying.

Awesome. I have had very good food before, even to the quality of expensive places like Ruth’s Chris. But this was the most perfect meal I have ever had at a restaurant. Ordered the fried flounder. The fish was perfectly flaky and breaded well. Hush puppies were amazing. I normally don’t like hush puppies, but these were moist and delicious. I had the spinach casserole as a side, which was the best I’ve ever had. I also had a My baked potato was even perfectly cooked. These were good portions too. I hadn’t eaten all day and still got full. The only complaint I have is we had a reservation and got there and it still took 20 – 30 minutes to be seated even though the table they gave us was empty while we were waiting. Then it took about 30 minutes to get our entrees. But then again, the food is so good that place was so busy I understand the delays. Definitely the best seafood place in Hampton Roads IMHO. YMMV. My experience may be due to me not eating anything but a couple of crackers and having some tea during the day before. I wanted to make sure I was hungry and able to finish my meal. That could be why I enjoyed the food so much. I don’t think so though.

The last time I went to Pirate’s cove it was on a Mothers Day. I wasn’t impressed with the menu, and elevated prices for that day. I had eaten their before and like it, but on that day I was disappointed. Come to find out that many restaurants do raise prices on Mothers Day. Why I ask? I think it would help for return business to keep the prices the same, and give Mom a special. Most likely there well be a larger party with mom on that day,(volume sales). My thinking is, I would come back because they care about the costumer. That has been about three years ago. It did take awhile for me to return due to that experience. But now I must say they are very good. Their She Crab soup is really great, and their hush puppies awesome. We had their Pile of Pollock which was great, and a lot. I just won’t go out on Mothers Day again.

Places that have fairly large portions are typically trying to overcompensate for shortcomings in the quality of food. That’s definitely not the case here. Though I’ve never actually finished a meal here, I’ve never had a bad one either. They’ve got a pretty classic no-frills seafood restaurant menu. I find myself partial to the broiled crab cakes. The sauteed spinach is rich and savory — a bit of an indulgence really. The baked apples, while technically a side, would more than suffice for a dessert… for two! That’s pretty much my go-to meal here. Prices are decent. Food is good. Staff is always friendly, attentive and efficient. Can’t really go wrong here!

This place is always the best… hands down some of the best food in the 757, I’ve had the flounder, crab, shrimp, the she crab soup and the cobblers(which is a must try might I add) the service never disappoints, the food always tastes great, freshly prepared, seasoned to perfection, the cobblers are little dishes of heaven… all of the ingredients flow perfectly together, not too sweet not blah at all… just yummy perfection… it’s worth the drive(it’s way out of the way for me but I love to go here when I’m in town) open more locations guys! :)

Overall great. Went on a Saturday night for dinner and it was packed, my party of 2 had a 15⁄20 minute wait. Once seated the waitress was so helpful and polite even with a packed house so i was impressed by that. I ordered the special prime rib dinner with salad and green beans and the other person got the fried combo with flounder, scallops, hushpuppies, baked potato and a salad. I just got tired from typing it, eating it all was definitely not easy, the portion sizes are huge and almost everyone leaving the restaurant had a to go container. I will definitely return most likely at lunch when it’s less crowded.
