The Look Salon & Day Spa

Monae is a fantastic hairdresser. I am very picky. I’ve had the same hairdresser at home in NOLA for over 10 years, and she really impressed me. I love my hair cut, and she listened to every request I had, as well as checking with me as we went along to make sure it was what I really wanted. She definitely let my hair speak to her and created a baller short haircut (which is tricky with my face shape).
Plus, at the end of the visit, they gave me a ton of awesome free product samples, including tea tree oil serum!
For as long as I stay in Virginia Beach, I’m going nowhere else.

From the phone call in the morning to the time I walked out, I could not have been more pleased! Ellen was very professional and could tell exactly what to do with my hair. This was my first visit there and to be honest, I gave it a try because of the reviews and the fact that they were one of the few places opened on a Monday morning. From the treatment I received, it seemed as if I had been going there for years!

They are friendly, but the quality of work is awful. I’ve been getting gel on my nails for 5 years and I have never had a problem with it chipping before 2 weeks. I am new to the area so I tried The Look and 3 of my nails chipped within the first 2 days. I called and they fixed the 3 chipped nails for free (I still tipped) and then within the next couple of days more nails chipped.
I don’t have time to go back so they can fix their low quality work over and over again. So I am just dealing with these chipped awful looking nails until I can make an appointment to go elsewhere. I will never return to that salon. The appearance looks very nice and clean, but their nail technicians are very unskilled. I asked for a design and she couldn’t even do a simple flower. I’m sorry to have to write such a bad review because everyone was very nice, but I don’t want pay $ 40 for just nice.

Michael did an awesome job. He fit me in with a few hours notice and listened to everything I wanted done with my hair. It turned out perfect and I couldn’t be happier with my experience!

GO SEE MONAE!!! she gives you the hair you always wanted and just weren’t born with! Shes never distracted ie: I’ve never even SEEN her cellphone, doesn’t carry on conversations with other people in the salon while doing your hair, doesn’t eat, or even sip coffee or water. she also doesn’t milk you for time. She doesn’t need to. Her prices are reasonable for the skill she offers and she has a good intuition about different types, textures, and colors of hair. I will never stop coming to her for all my hair needs. P. S. If you want extensions, this is the woman to see. She’s great with placement and preserving your hair for less fallout. Also a great colorist.

CARLIN was amazing I had her do a silk wrap on my hair and it is beautiful! I normally go to her once a month for maintenance. I am mixed with black and Filipino so yes she can deal with curly hair. VERY important fact.

Stephanie is the absolute best with blondes! She’s the only one I have ever trusted from the second I sit down. I love this salon and how friendly the staff is, from the front desk, to hair, to spa. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

I had the Japanese hair straightener done at the end of September 2015 for my wedding. I was told the woman I was with had a lot of experience doing them. She was very friendly and talked to me the whole time, but the results of the straightener were not what was expected. I have had this procedure done a few times before in another state, so I knew what results I should expect. When my hair did not come out correctly, I complained to the salon that my hair was still curly. My wedding was in the next few days so they could not do the straightener again, keratin would be the best choice so my hair would not be fried. Monae, who was my stylist for both processes, told me to contact them in a few weeks if it did not work again. The keratin treatment did nothing for my hair, it was still curly and the same as before. I called the salon again and got another assistant manager, Natalia who told me they would fix it, but I would have to pay half the cost of the Japanese straightener. I had already paid almost $ 500 dollars between the treatments and tips. I decided not to go back and have it fixed for the third time because I could not justify spending more money on a service that was not done correctly the first or second time. This place had come highly recommend from co-​workers and being new to the area, I thought I would give them a try. I had wanted the Japanese treatment for my wedding so I would have less to do the day of my wedding. I thought it would take some stress off of a stressful, but happy day. This experience was so disappointing and disheartening. I wish I could get my money back.

Love Heather. Have been coming here to see her for several years now. She always does an amazing job. She even squeezed me in same day with a full schedule! Always happy and feeling good when I leave!

Made appointment for my boyfriend and i to have a facial. It is always a wonderful experience and this time i got to share it with him. He enjoyed the experience greatly even though hes a rugged guy that thought this was a girly thing. He changed his mind afterward. Thanks ladies for a great experience for both of us.

I LOVE this place! I had a scrub and some kind of body butter treatment plus a full body wax and let me tell you my skin never felt this soft EVER, my boyfriend at the time was so please, he married me 3 months later ;-). They do awesome hair too! All around an awesome experience!

My partner and I moved here in April and finally found our place of happiness. Tarryn and Tina were so friendly and did an outstanding job with our pedicure. The entire staff is super friendly and even offers complimentary wine. If you want to be pampered for the day– go to Look Salon & Spa… We will surely be back!

I knew from the moment that I met Michael — he was exactly what I was looking for in a stylist! He took one look at my hair and knew what to do and recognized what my other stylist did. He is a master at reds and really understands how to make them pop.
My hair turned out amazing. His cuts match his color expertise! I’m thrilled that I found this salon in my new town! I will highly recommend it to everyone and Michael to those who are wanting an excellent cut and color!

Came in for a toner for my ombré, as it was beginning to look a bit brassy. Shana (not sure if I spelled her name right) helped me and she was amazing. She was very helpful in recommending products and giving me tips on how to take care of my color as well as answering all of my questions. They did a super great job and feel compelled to give them some credit. ;)

I found this salon through Unilocal and after reading great reviews decided to make an appointment. I had gone several months of not getting my hair cut due to being unimpressed with my previous two cuts at other places since moving here. I was so impressed with the stylist Heather who gave me a great consultation as well as a superb haircut that seemed to bring my hair back to life. This is my new salon! I am so glad I found it and I am very greatful to others who posted the reviews which helped me decide to give The Look a try.

AMAZING!!! I’ve never posted a review in Unilocal,but felt like I had to after leaving this salon. Such a great experience!
I have been waiting 6 months to get my hair cut and colored, after a really bad experience at another salon. After seeing the great reviews for The Look on Unilocal and seeing all the pics of clients’ hair on their website, I decided to book an appointment.
The receptionist was so friendly and I was able to enjoy a complimentary mimosa while I waited for my appointment. Nice!
Heather was my stylist and I was just SO impressed with her warmth and professionalism. I wanted an angled, messy bob with natural looking blond balayage highlights. She listened to me, asked questions, and I felt like she really understood what I was wanting, and why I was frustrated with my previous cut/​color. She did a phenomenal job and I think I received the best cut and color I’ve ever had.
Plus, it’s a full-​service salon. Great services and good selection of products.

This was my first visit and I wanted to love this place as much as everyone else but unfortunately I can’t.
The staff is VERY friendly, and I mean everyone, from the front desk, to my nail tech, to the other customers too. My services were done very quick, and upon walking out, my nails looked awesome. I think my favorite part is that the place smelled so nice. There were no chemical smells in the air, from nails or hair.
The bad part is that, despite having such a great time, my nails haven’t lasted. I got them done last Friday, with shellac. They started peeling Tuesday, and today they just look bad. I guess it’s the product that they use, but I know that I shouldn’t have to pay $ 50 ($ 32 for manicure, 5 for French, and then the rest for tip) for my nails to not even last a week, with a product that starts on the website is guaranteed to last 14 days. I don’t garden, wash dishes by hand, do hair or anything like that. I also have gone to other places and my shellac has lasted as it should.
While I love the atmosphere, I can’t write a good review about a nail salon if my nails aren’t great :-/

The Look was recommended to me when I moved to the area, and I’ve been a fan ever since. There are plenty of other Salons I could go to in my area (Hampton) but I make the trek to Chesapeake for their great service, fantastic attitudes, professionalism, and knowledge. Monae is a great stylist. In 1.5 years she’s taken my hair from decent shape to healthy. She always makes great, affordable product recommendations and doesn’t try to sell me things I don’t need.
I love the fact that they’re full service. I can get anything and everything done here and it’s very convenient. I’m a customer for life!

I had a great first experience here today. Shanah @thelooksalonchesapeake is the one who did my hair.
I do suggest to call ahead and make an appointment because they stay packed.
Update: I thought I got exactly what I asked for until I got home and noticed more closely that she had cut my hair so jagged that it was hard for me to even put it up in a pony tail or braid it. I’m seriously heartbroken because I thought I had finally found the one place I could trust! Shame on me for not noticing it sooner.

Booked an appointment after reading the great reviews. Got color, cut and style with Natalia and she did a great job. Very happy with how it turned out. It’s more expensive than your regular salon but it is worth it to me to get a cut and color done right the first time. It lasts longer and you do not have to pay someone else to fix it. Great atmosphere and everyone was very friendly and serviceable. Great products available. I only went for my hair but I found out they offer all types of spa services so I would really like to go back and try some of the other services because a one stop place would be awesome. Overall, really pleased with my experience and totally recommend.
