Order from them pretty much every Sunday. The cranberry bagels are absolutely delicious

Shef’s is the best bagel I’ve ever had. Period. Staff is friendly and quick. Gets busy on weekends. Would recommend French toast bagel. Their bacon egg and cheese is my usual go to.

We stopped in this morning to grabs few bagels, and we’re really glad we did! First of all, the woman behind the counter was friendly! She greeted us with a big smile & a friendly hello! I’m really big on customer service, so this was huge for me. We got 6 whole wheat everything bagels(for only 5 bucks– what a great deal)! The bagels were fresh and delicious. Great customer service, great prices, and a great bagel! We’re very satisfied customers.

Apparently if you don’t get here early(and I mean before 8:30 am) on a weekend, your choices are limited. In many weekends they run out of bagels completely by 1:00 and last weekend morning at 8:30 they were already out of whole wheat everything and a few others. I am adding to what I had as a tip last week because again this morning, for the third week in a row, they were out of certain bagels. For three weeks in a row by 9 am they were out of pumpernickel raisin. When I mentioned this streak to the young lady working the counter she apologized and said that they have no way to predict what will sell and that the dough is prepared by one person the night before. I don’t believe it is unpredictable. If you are consistently out of bagels each weekend, then make more! They cost pennies to make and you charge nearly $ 1/each! No doubt these are the best bagels around, but if they aren’t there to buy, how can anyone know this? And you’ll start to lose loyal customers like me. 5 stars for the bagels(when I can get them). 1 star for the unpredictability of availability.

This is the closest thing you are going to get to a New York bagel in Connecticut, crisp on the outside and soft & chewy on the inside. My only knock is that sometimes the bagels could be a little crispier, but these guys are by far the best bagel in the area. If you’re sick of what passes for a bagel at Dunkin Donuts, then try Shef’s. You won’t be disappointed! This place knows how to treat a customer. The staff is extremely friendly and polite. Make sure you get there early for the best selection!

Wow! This place is a hidden gem. They have a great selection of fresh bagels. The prices are more than fair, which will keep me coming back. More importantly, their service is outstanding! Everyone is so helpful and friendly!

Best bagels in Cheshire. The bagels are big and have that consistency you look for with a slight snap on the outside and a chewy internal consistency. We usually get bacon egg and cheese sandwiches on a french toast bagel with syrup and it gives us the perfect balance of salty sweetness. Everything else I have had from here has been equally good and we usually hit this place up almost every weekend. The staff is very nice and the owner is always available to talk or say hi to the kids.

Love Love LOVETHEBAGELS. AWESOME, prices they’re fair and not overpriced. HOWEVER, as previously being in food service, I have learned that you should ALWAYS wear gloves when handling ready to eat food. Yes, most employees do, but there has been at least one time I recall where the woman took the bagel I chose and instead of wearing gloves or grabbing it with paper, she used her bare hands. It was being toasted, but still, the use of gloves or paper would be more appetizing and preferred. Not an unsanitary place, and is always well kept, but that one instance was a little questionable. The bagels are the best I’ve had from around the towns over in that area, you can tell by how busy they are that people love their food. Which also reminds me that they have VERYQUICKSERVICE. They make you feel welcomed but still get you out in a quick manner. Love the place.

Being from Westchester County and having also lived in NJ for some time, I am used to having the best bread and bagels around. Believe it or not, it’s not that easy to find good bagels in this area of CT, so I was extremely happy when I had my first Shef’s bagel. They are always fresh and crispy on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside. The cream cheese is awesome too. Not only that, but I’ve always enjoyed going in and ordering breakfast bc everyone in there is always so nice. The owner is almost always there and he’s super nice and welcoming.

Shef’s is by far the best breakfast sandwich in the area. My favorite is the whole wheat everything bagel loaded with double bacon, double egg and double cheese. Try it. You won’t be disappointed. Scouts honor. The girls at the front are always great– friendly and quick.

Well, I have a neighbor who loves this place so I went to check it out last week. I’ll run through my initial thoughts of my experience. Parking — it’s in a small strip mall, easy to drive right by. Half dozen parking spots. Store interior — smell is overwhelming when walking in, which is fine by me, but for some may be a bit much. Bagels baskets on the left. Staff attentive and nice, but seemed impatient as I looked over the selection. After getting bagels order in you have to shift to the right to pay where they will serve your coffee as well. Price — in line with local bagel choices. Product — cannot review the coffee as I did not try it. Smelled good though. The bagels… or as I would describe them ‘breakfast rolls’ we’re not a favorite of mine. Seriously. Round bagels? And they were too yeast-y for my liking. I like real NYC style bagels, chewy with a crust. These are best described as a bread bagel. No chew or texture to them. I am wondering if others who describe them as my bagels have ever left his little town and really tried a bagel in NYC. I get that most of the reviews here are probably their friends, but I have to be honest, this is an average bagel spot, at best.

Someone recently told me to try this place if I like Bagelicious so much. So, I obliged. After all, who doesn’t love a good bagel showdown? Well. To chose the bagel I like better would be a bit like shooting myself in the foot! They are both so good. I am jealous of small town Cheshire for having such an abundance of Bagels in that small little area. Customer service is great too.

I’ve had some bagels in my time, to say the least. I even had some NY bagels this past week from two different places. None can come close to Shef’s. This place is as close to perfection as you can get. I had an Everything bagel, cream cheese lox and capers(they were out of poppy and sesame, but I can see why as they are super popular). So fresh it almost melts in your mouth, just delicious…

It seems that bagels are similar to pizza in that people have very strong opinions about what I good bagel should look, feel and taste like. Every bagel place seems to have at least one comment similar to «…it’s not a real NY bagel…» That said for local chain places I like Brueggers, who I believe boil their bagels in the traditional NYC manner. They are smaller, denser and crustier. Actually I’ve been described in the same manner but that’s a different story. The bagels at the place across the street from Shefs are completely different. They are baked(I guess) and very bready. I’ve heard them described as more like a hard roll than a bagel, which despite the fact that I like the place is probably a fair assessment. But if I bring a dozen to work people love them. I would say Shefs bagels are somewhere in between the two. Larger and breadier than ones that are boiled(Brueggers) but better than the super bready ones like across the street or at DD. So Shefs has become my default bagel place, partly because it’s good and partly because it’s very close to where I live. Sometimes if I’m in the mood I’ll go to Brueggers but mostly it’s Shefs. I’m a traditional is so I stick with just cream cheese on my bagel but I’m told the bagel sandwiches are good as well. All in all I wouldn’t drive a half hour to come here but if you’re in the neighborhood or live nearby I would check it out just don’t expect it’s a substitute for getting on the train and heading to NYC.

First time here and in CT. I was craving a New York bagel but didnt feel like a roadtrip sooo Shefs is where I ended up. They came highly recommended by my sister. I was pleasantly surprised at the prices and taste of the bagels. I bought a half dozen bagels with a tub of cream cheese and they were big soft and delicious.

The bagels here are amazing. They are different than NY bagels in that they are more doughy and roll-like. The staff is also friendly. The only complaint I have is that their bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich just wasn’t good. Next time, I’ll buy a bagel from here and make the breakfast sandwich at home. However, the bagels with their cream cheese are delicious.
