We’ve been going to the Burger Depot for years. It was always the kids’ favorite because of the train that circles the dining room, and the adults are eager to oblige because the food is terrific. We like being able to add whatever burger toppings suits our fancy. And the fries are delicious, but it’s hard to not order the chips and dip. They alone have brought us into town from our cabin 35 mines away.

Good burgers and fries. Hard to believe the owner did’t know what Unilocal was when I told him it’s why we stopped in. Definitely would come again.

My husband loves trains so the railroad motif attracted us. The lady who greeted and took our order was very friendly and helpful about menu selections. We enjoyed a nice lunch here, food was very fresh and delicious. We’ll eat here again the next time we come through this area.

We were camping at Lassen and came down to Chester to have a nice meal and gas up our car. When we pulled up to Burger Depot, we were greeted by the owner before we even walked in. Once inside, everyone else was just as friendly! As for the the burgers… Great! We ordered the northern pacific and Santa Fe burgers, which were both just what we needed and reasonably priced. It was just under $ 22 for two burgers, a side of cheese fries and a beer and glass of wine. I also like that they have a do-it-yourself burger dressing bar for those who are picky about their toppings. :) This was a great place for the food and service. I encourage anyone who is in the area to stop by and check it out!

Fantastic place — I wish I didn’t live by Death Valley. Great food. You order and receive your food at the counter and take it to the fixin’s table and put whatever you want on it. They are absolutely the most naturally friendly folks by which I’ve ever been served. Only wish I had known about the waffle fries before I ordered, they look delicious. Train memorabilia all over the place including 2 crossing bucks and a grade crossing gate.

I stopped in for a snack on my way through Chester. Decided on waffle fries, and have no regrets because they were epic– huge, golden, crispy, and seasoned to perfection. Plus, they only set me back $ 3 and the portion was generous. The staff was friendly and helpful; I told them I was allergic to dairy so they gave me some tasty BBQ sauce instead of the usual ranch. I noticed they have a veggie burger and I may just have to try it if I pass that way again.

Was excited to see that they had a do-it-yourself fresh condiments bar which included ketchup, mustard, thousand island, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos, red onions etc. Ordered«crispy chicken» burger and 1⁄3 lb bacon cheeseburger w/waffle fries. Waffle fries good, very good. Crispy and seasoned nicely. Only complaint is that the serving size did not fill the basket it was served in. Rather pay more for a full basket with better presentation. Makes you feel cheated to have negative space. The CRISPY chicken burger was not crispy. Instead made up of 2 chicken tenders(pre-frozen). Bacon cheeseburger cost over $ 7 ala carte. One piece of bacon(not crispy) cut in half made it $ 2 more than a reg. cheeseburger. Burger meat was pre-frozen patty that was not seasoned properly/juicy. Both had sesame seed buns that were stale and disintegrated easily. I was very excited to go to a Mom/Pop place in a small town. Unfortunately what you get is a one time meal that cuts a lot of corners in quality. Not a good value at all. Caters to folks that drive through and never come back.

We moved here in April and were delighted to find this place almost immediately. Best fried I ever had, especially with their ranch dressing! Everything we’ve had here is just yummy, and the people and service are unparalleled. Love the condiment bar, with everything you can imagine for your burger. If you’re a railroad nut, you’ll love the crossing signal as you enter the parking lot, as well as all the signs and historical photos posted around the restaurant.

For a roadside burger place, this one is just fine. We tried the hamburger, hot dog and fries and no complaints at all. The service was good as well. Only 4 stars because the burger was good but not excellent(in my opinion).

Had lunch here again over the weekend. I am a big fan of patty melts so I do not say this lightly — BESTPATTYMELTEVER! They call it the Locomotive or some such. But it is basically a patty with melted swiss cheese and sauerkraut on toasted rye bread. The staff here really goes out of their way to make you feel welcome.

It’s October and I’m in Chester. I need lunch and I roll into what looks like the cleanest, friendliest place on the main drag. I’m met by the owner Ann who is busy cleaning every surface in the already spotless restaurant. I order up my Turkey burger, waffle fries, and grab my soda. While I wait, Steve walks in(other owner and husband) and asks if he can get me anything. This level of service is unheard of in my Bay Area world. I eat my excellent burger and my perfectly fried fries in total bliss. If you get a chance to stop in and grab a burger, do so. These guys have been doing it right for decades and I’m happy to have found them!

My friends and I are super impressed with everything here. The burgers are really good, the«fixin’s» are fresh, the whole place is super clean and the prices are totally cheap!!! Steve, the owner, stands at the counter making sure his clientele is happy. If the Unilocal complainers took their gripes to him, I’m sure he would give you a replacement. I chatted with him and he said they are closed over winter(Nov — April).
