2 ½ stars os generous. Very poor service food is a lousy how do you screw up mexican. Half the beers on the menu weren’t available the salad was brought with our entrée and didnt have what was advertised on it. not enough chicken to make two fajitas lat sline 3. just awful. Speechless how bad this was. My boyfriend ordered an enchilada, corn tortilla.. Look it up.. They serve a flour burrito wrap around a small amount of grilled chicken.. No chili sauce on top just a small bit of melted cheddar sprinkled with tomatoes.. Pathetic.

We’ve eaten here twice and the food was delicious. The margaritas are small but equally good. Our last time here was a Sunday(don’t show up before 5pm because they’re not open!!) and this time they were closed because of an exhaust issue. What small businesses can afford to close because of a mechanical failure? I would rate the good as authentic although slightly overpriced. The drinks are also good but highly overpriced. The service was friendly but a weird ambiance. I’d go back, but not my first choice.

Salsa like Ketchup, guacamole out of a jar, chips out of a bag and loud country music. Skip this place and hit Taco Bell.

We used our Groupon to visit a new restaurant. I was surprised they were slow for a Friday night but they do not have an outdoor seating while other restaurants in Chester do so that might be why since it was a beautiful evening. Overall, we had an enjoyable time. The servers were great and attentive with our kids who entertained them. We ordered a pomegranate margarita and a traditional margarita. My husband said the traditional was a little strong. The pomegranate was great — tart on a warm summer evening! We enjoyed two servings of tortillas and salsa — even my 7 yr old liked the salsa! We ordered cheese quesadillas for our 7 yr old and a mini burger for my 2 yr old. Took a little longer for the burger than I would have liked. We ordered the beef & shrimp fajitas which I enjoyed but there were only 3 shrimp. There was enough for the 3 tortillas but would have liked a bit more meat/shrimp. I did like all the fixings that came with the fajita — rice, black beans, peppers, onions, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, lettuce — all fresh! My husband had fish tacos(2) which he enjoyed. The best part of dinner was the limoncello cake — yummy! We really enjoyed it! We went for a stroll through the restaurant/gallery area of Chester afterward to top of the wonderful summer evening. It wasn’t 4 stars but I’d go back again since they were so friendly and took good care of us! And it was kid friendly — always a plus when you have kids!

Let me start by saying if I had the opportunity to give this zero stars I would, but I had to give one in order to start typing. I bought a groupon for Cabo a few months back and it was coming close to it’s expiration. My girlfriend and I decided to use it last Friday night and mind you we heard decent things about it since my girlfriend works in the area. So we get there and it’s a very quaint spot in the heart of Chester which we like so we felt good about it until we walked in. We literally stood for 5 minutes until the waitress got done doing what she was doing on her phone only to tell us we can sit wherever we want. We proceeded to get bombarded by the two waitress’s as they literally were fighting on who got the table. We were lucky enough to get the miserable waitress out of the two. She comes back and asks what we would like to drink so I got the natural margarita and my girlfriend got the mango. I also asked for two waters…10 minutes later we get our margaritas but no waters. So I ask for the waters and she goes I’m getting them in a ride tone. Oh before I go on they brought chips and salsa to the table and the chips were so greasy they literally would bend by how soft they are. Ok back to the drinks mine was OK not great by any means but I could drink it. My girlfriends on the other hand pure tequila. Trust me we like our drinks with the right amount of booze but i even cringed taking a sip of it. We let the waitress know and she takes it back and brings it back 5 minutes later and it still tasted like crap. Now in our groupon deal it came with 2 margaritas and 2 entrees. I ended up ordering the surf and turf fajitas which was shrimp and steak. My gf ordered the fried avocado tacos. We also ordered guacamole. Now with the guac the header on the menu said guacamole bar and it gave you 4 options; traditional, bacon and tomato, pineapple, and shrimp. They all sounded gross and I never heard of any of those combinations except the traditional. So we ordered the traditional hoping for a turn around… NOPE!!! The waitress comes out with a small dish with four scoops and I mean literally scoops of all four of the guacamole bar options. The guacamole I’m pretty sure was store bought based on its texture and softness. There was no chunk of avocado or flavor. I was already thinking about where we can go for a real dinner because I was done with this place. But the cherry on the top was the main course. My gf’s fried avocado tacos were edible at best and she ate them pretty quickly in hopes we could get the hell out of there ASAP! My fajitas came out and first off the shrimp was over cooked to the ninth degree and over seasoned with cayenne pepper. The steak came out medium which is perfect for me, except one piece was still raw. Now I should have just put it to the side and went on with it but I told the waitress about it and she took it back. I was thinking I would get a fresh steak, nope she comes out 30 secs later with the same plate minus that one piece. At this point I was like I’m ready to go and asked for the check. I eat the food reluctantly and as she brings me the check she also comes out with a small plate that has that one piece of raw steak that is now over cooked and well done. I seriously looked at her and said are you serious? To her response… you wanted it cooked. I take the check and groupon and we ended up paying $ 16 after the groupon. $ 16 too much in my opinion. I left her a $ 5 tip off the original amount which was $ 54.00. If I had to pay $ 54 for that crap I would have went and played in traffic. We ended up going to the amazing restaurant Bonefish Grill on the pike where we got superior service and good from our favorite bartenders Mike and Mark!!! If anyone from cabo reads this. I have only 2 more things to say: 1. SHUTDOWN! You are an embarrassment to Mexican, tez mex cuisine. 2. I am no cook by trade nor is my gf. In fast we’re bank executives but we do know how to cook and like to cook. However I would like to bring a challenge to whoever your«head chef» is and have a cooking challenge. I will go 1:1 with he/she and make a guacamole and fajita trio. I guarantee you I would wipe the floor with him/her. Moral of this review… STAYAWAYFROMCABOSUPPOSEDTEQUILAGRILL!!!

I love this area of Cheshire, there are some fabulous restaurants(French 75!), but this one doesn’t stand up to the bar set by those others. We decided to come here after finding a Groupon discount. We made a reservation and even though we were a few minutes late for the reservation time, we still had to wait almost 20 minutes to get a table. Our server was overall really slow. For a Mexican place, this was the WORST margarita I’ve ever had(it wasn’t one of the fruity ones, but it wasn’t supposed to have any sour mix in it), it was so sour it was barely drinkable. We tried to order fajita’s and were told they were out of peppers(WHAT?) and when I accepted that and tried to order the steak and shrimp fajitas, they turned out to be out of shrimp. I ordered a burrito instead, which was ok(when it finally arrived). Also, there were 2 restrooms, and one of them was emitting a smell that was so bad you didn’t even want to go in it, and every time someone touched the door we could catch a sniff of it from our table. A smell THAT bad would have had me sending someone for some febreeze or air freshener. I don’t think we’ll be going back.

Ate here this past Saturday night, called early for reservations and was seated promptly upon arrival; it was clearly a busy evening. The margaritas were great, served in mason jars which added a nice touch. The service was very slow and our server wasn’t able to answer basic questions about the menu. At one point we were told the Golden Snapper entrée was in fact tilapia. Service continued to be slow throughout the evening and the food was fair. We were disappointed that tilapia, in the fish tacos, was the only fish on the menu(that is of course, if the Snapper was actually tilapia) due to recent concerns raised about the adverse health effects of this cheap farm raised fish. The dinning area is intimate with cool décor but I’m not sure if I’d return. Cabo has great potential — here’s hoping for some needed improvement.

Dined with my Groupon at Cabo Tequila Grille on Sunday, 01÷26÷14. This was definitely one of my better Groupon eating experiences. We split a Guacamole Bar appetizer which consisted of 4 generous portions of guac, each done a different way — with bacon, with pineapple and red onion, traditional, and with shrimp. All 4 had great flavor and went well with the house made tortilla chips. For entrees, we had the Surf & Turf Fajitas and the Killer Shrimp Tacos. Generous portions all around, well seasoned and my fajitas came with black beans and the usual fixings. I built two bursting fajitas before realizing there was a third tortilla — and I still had enough to make that one as well. My date had the Killer Shrimp Tacos, which she enjoyed. Service was fast and professional — it was almost closing time on a Sunday night so it wasn’t packed. We were full, so dessert was not even considered haha.

Very disappointing. It was a cold night and it was very cold inside. The dining room was overtaken by the smell of the bathroom! Smelled like an over scented garbage bag(with garbage) or a diaper jeanie. Appetizing! Ready for a drink I ordered a house margarita. That should be good, as this is a «Tequila Grill» after all. But no. It tasted like over-sweetened cheap sour mix with frozen OJ concentrate. A fellow diner order a mojito, but they were out of mint. Time to order the meal. One of their taco options is a fried avocado taco. Interesting. Let’s try that. Wait. What? You’re out of avocado? A mexican restaurant without mint? Sure, it happens. One without avocado? Close your doors! Long story short, our meals come and: one order of shrimp tacos has 3 shrimp per taco(and these are small shrimp), while order of shrimp tacos has 4 per taco(6 total vs. 8 total. That’s a big deal). Oh, and the shrimp are tepid/cold. Another diner got something she did not order. I order the fish(y) tacos, which are, like the shrimp, drowning in mayo/crema/sour cream. Even in the order where«no crema» was requested. Basically, every aspect of our meal had issues. Everything. And that’s to bad, because Cabo couldn’t ask for a better small town location than Chester. But they blew it.

What a disappointment. Visited family and went out for dinner at Cabo. Our server/bartender obviously felt she deserved our pity for having to work a long day. Service was disjointed and clearly a distraction to her sidework. Our appetizer, which consisted of cold black beans with an obviously microwaved slice of cheese, took about 40 minutes to arrive. Our main course, the«Cilantro Beef» enchilada, very obviously lacked any sign of cilantro and came with a side of Velveta cheese melted on rice and the same microwaved black beans we saw in our appetizer. Imagine the look on my face when our server informed us that the actual chef had gone home for the night and our server’s daughter was running the kitchen. Nothing quite like admitting an amateur is in charge to belittle your dining experience and set the stage for a pitifully disappointing meal. Won’t be back. Food was poor and the service was worse. Can’t believe they can stay afloat in a culinary hotbed like Chester, CT, home to many wonderful restaurants far more deserving of our time and money.

Menu is very limited. Salads were good. Simple, basic, uneventful, but OK. Everything else was miserable. The sliders were bland and cold. The pulled pork should have been pulled from the rotation. The soft tacos had the same tasteless breaded fish that the slider had the fried avocado taco was so bland it was nearly tofu. The Thai beef was hamburger with ginger? mint? crumbled Mentos?. The service was very good though. We felt sad for our waitress who on a night when all other restaurants in Chester were packed, we were the only diners at Cabo for the 1.5 hours we were there. So sad, bad, just hideous. Disappointing. Don’t go. Update!!! We did not come down with any diseases! I should add a star for that. The salsa was OK too.

We came here with friends several years ago and had a delicious meal. We were back in the area the other night and decided to eat here again. That was a mistake. I ordered the mahi tacos. The food was boring and the soft tacos fell apart when I picked them up. I forget what my wife and son ordered, but their meals were tasteless, too. Needless to say, we’re not coming back.

Tried this place for the first time tonight. The interior is small, mostly bar, with a few dining tables. We were greeted promptly and our waiter was prompt, professional, and efficient. Salsa and chips were set down right away. Soda and iced tea were served in medium sized mason jar type glasses. Refills are not free. We shared an appetizer– the tostada, which was very good. The grilled chicken on it was quite tasty. A chicken enchilada was as described in the menu. A vegetable burrito was rather small and flat, and as it turned out, was missing the promised portobello mushrooms. All it contained were a few onions and peppers and a few stray olive slices. The onions and peppers weren’t even sautéed nicely. They appeared steamed or microwaved. Our waiter brought a few tbsp of sautéed mushrooms after I pointed out they were missing. But my dining companion was done and the rest of my dinner was cold. The dark brown rice served with entrees is off-putting in flavor, and the rather thick refried beans are far too salty for human consumption. The sides were barely warm when the p, ages came out. By 6:30 the small restaurant was filling up and becoming quite, our and uncomfortably hot. The menu is small and nothing special. Go to Cukoos Nest instead, or even Margarita’s in Mystic, unless you’re looking for a bar alone.

The best part of my meal there was the chips and salsa that came as an appetizer. I ordered the grilled mahi tacos. The food came cold, the«soft» tortillas were hard and ripped. The sides(rice and beans) were tasteless, I didn’t even want to finish my plate.

Can I leave this place 0 stars? It is horrible. I can’t believe people actually like it. My experience here was awful and I will never go back. The service was not good to begin with. We should’ve taken the hint in the beginning. It took 15 minutes to get a cocktail in an empty restaurant(there were only 3 tables with 2 people each at 8:00 on a Saturday night). The food was overpriced, incredibly small portions and mediocre at best. I couldn’t believe how much money I spent on absolute crap! So disappointing… taco bell would’ve been more satisfying. And as a side note, the other 2 tables in the restaurant with us also had problems. We overheard both tables send food back and have a meal taken off the bill. Everyone there was not happy with their experience. I guess it was empty on Saturday night because it’s terrible! That was another hint– should’ve known… Well, I will never go back. I do not recommend it to anyone unless you want to be ripped off.

Cabo was an average experience. The shrimp appetizer was good, just really not big enough for two to share. My mahi mahi tacos were tasteless. The fish portion was tiny. It wasn’t flavored with any spices at all. I had to heap on the guacamole and the pico de gallo to get any flavor. I had one of the tacos home. I didn’t even bother eating it. Usually, I’m super excited to have left overs. Our server was attentive. The food just doesn’t really do Mexican justice. They need better preparation. Especially with the places along Main St. like River Tavern, 6 Main, etc. this place really needs to ratchet up it’s food if it wants to compete/survive.

The restaurant is about the size of a closet so make a reservation if you’re going on the weekend. We sat at a table in the bar — the service was good and cute atmosphere, I had the pomegranate margarita which was pretty good. I’m not sure if the chips and salsa were really good or I was just super hungry but I couldn’t get enough. The BBQ pork and poblano quesadilla was tasty — i could have eaten a whole meal of it — they should make it a meal, not just an app. I got the Mahi tacos — the fish was over cooked and dessert was awful so don’t get the tres leches. This is no Mesa Grill so don’t go here expecting Bobby Flay caliber food, it’s a small local joint that probably doesn’t even have Mexican dishwashers. I’ll go back but make smarter menu choices the next time because my husband’s meal was much better than mine.

You know you are in trouble when you ask the waitress what her favorite dish is and she says«I like the chopped salad.» That being said, we chose what we could from the over priced and limited menu. I got the chicken burrito which was like a giant folded over soft taco. It was dry inside with some charred poblano peppers. My wife got the enchiladas. The chicken was dry and flavorless. The sauce was like tomato purée with a bitter chipotle chili flavor. The best thing of the night was the carnitas. Besides the awful flavor here is the most unforgivable flaws. The Salsa was so bad. Pure tomato paste bitterness. Maybe they had some canned fire roasted tomatoes ground up in there for texture. we should have left after we tasted it. The sides were the worst. Flavorless sofrito rice and«refried beans» that were stiff with a crust. It was in the shape of a rock. And lastly they don’t offer a blended Margarita! How can you be a tequila grill and not offer blended Margaritas? Maybe they are trying something different, but if you are going to call yourself a Mexican restaurant you MUST have some standards. Salsa, rice and refried beans are pretty simple to make and when they are nearly inedible, it makes subpar food even worse.

I love the fact that Unilocal wants you to review«good local places». This was definitely not one of them. We went for dinner two nights ago and the first thing that stuck out in our minds was the fact that for being a «Tequila Bar», they had no tequila menu. Their margaritas were ok once you got to the higher end stuff. The night we were there they were out of not only Sam Adams and several other beers but also pork in general. We honestly started to think the place was going out of business. I’m thinking maybe that’s not such a bad idea. One of the people in our party ordered the chopped salad. It was anything but. Smack me if I’m wrong, but a chopped salad should be chopped. Since there was no pork on the menu(we’d eaten beef the two nights previous), I ordered the San Francisco style chicken burrito. CRAP. The carne asada burrito was filled with tough, dry overcooked beef. Definitely not worth ordering again. The mole sauce on another person’s chicken enchiladas looked like baby poop. Perhaps this restaurant can improve enough to stay in business but at this rate, they can flush themselves down the river that runs behind it.

What is with all the haterade for this place? My wife and I have dined here regularly since my first review and it has remained totally consistent throughout. If anything I think the service has improved. The Margaritas remain excellent and the quality in both the ingredients and preparation is obvious. Don’t be taken in, folks. Cabo is much better than average.
