I do not like giving bad reviews but I have given this place its last chance. I have avoided this diner for two years because the last time I was here there was a piece of metal in my food. Well, I tried. Nothing in my food this time but nothing else has changed unfortunately. The place needs to be remodeled. The inside is old and beat up. The drinks taste odd like either the ice machine needs to be cleaned or the soda lines need to be cleaned. The Sprite didn’t taste like Sprite. The food is bland and under seasoned. The Matzo ball soup needed a lot of salt. The cheese sticks were bland. Everything tasted processed and low quality. This is NOT one of NJ’s best diners. There are so many other restaurants and diners to go to. I cannot recommend this one.

This place was a really good years ago ! The only diner I would go too in the area, but I have been very disappointed my last two visits. I would take a guess and say they hired a cheep cook who was probably the bus boy now chef. Food is burnt and I’m not ordering complicated dishes just good old cheese burger or eggs. I’m really not one who writes reviews but I’m so disappointed with how bad they are now. Stay away!

Friendly waitress and manager. My food was undercooked, sent back and they just threw same food back in fryer. Kids food was normal nj diner food. It was closing time also and kitchen staff actually came out of kitchen, sat in booth across from us and stared at us until we left. Will not go back!!!

My wife and I each had a burger here a few days ago. Both were very good. That is where the positives end, however. The service was not good especially considering the place wasn’t even half full. The nachos(supreme?) we had were one of the worst nacho platters we have ever had. I wouldn’t come here again other than for breakfast, maybe.

I love a good diner that serves food fit for its theme. That is fries, burgers, omelettes and other standard American diner and breakfast fare. I’ve eaten here 5 times now and can only recommend breakfast as their only good effort. They have way too many menu items so they don’t do any of them well — if it sounds exotic don’t order it as it will be terrible. Observing the patrons I noted it is golden age hair set so their food is seasoned for bland. I recommend Driving 5 miles north and go to «The After» if you want a good diner in the area that does diner food well(no credit card though).

i have been here several times for breakfast and lunch. It is what you would expect from a NJ diner. I have had omelettes and various types of breakfast sandwiches. They are all good. The hash browns were cooked crispy as I asked for them. My server has always been on top of refilling my coffee and water. I will come back.

On December 14th2011, I had the Grilled chicken over tossed salad. As I was eating the chicken, it felt«chewy» and cool. I took a close look at the strips of grilled chicken, and discovered a raw piece. I was upset and called the waitress over, who plucked it out with her hands and said«It’s only 1 piece». I couldn’t finish it. She said my bill would be adjusted– it ONLY was adjusted 10%! Poorly cooked food and Cheap owners!

Total disappointment. We were seeking out a hangover breakfast and happened to be passing this place so we stopped. The place is huge and had a decent crowd but plenty of open tables so we were feeling OK about it… should have Unilocaled first. We got seated and waited 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us and that was with plenty of 19yr old looking servers all hanging out pretty much directly in our view. They have one person come over and take your drink order, then your server… which seems like it would be needed for a place that’s bumpin and efficient-why here idk. After we waited a bit longer with our untouched beverages(because we were close to walking out), our server came by and took our order. 2 Taylor ham egg and cheese sammages on rolls and a plate of disco fries. Food took about another 10 min then arrived. The sandwiches looked promising, they used thick cut Taylor ham… I’ve never had bland Taylor ham until today. They grilled the meat instead of griddling so it didn’t get caramelized and crispy like it’s supposed to, we honestly questioned if it was cooked enough. Just 2 blah sandwiches. The fries were decent but again slightly bland. Overall just not a good experience. Wouldn’t come back here.

I don’t go to diners for seafood, steaks, meatloaf, triple decker sandwiches or mile high pies. For me, there is only one meal to be had-Lox and onion omelette, well done home fries and rye toast with a good cup of coffee. I’ve had this very same meal at dozens of diners throughout New Jersey. From the horrifically bad to mighty fine. Very nice omelette here. Hash browns were crispy just as I requested. Very nice server. Only thing is the food, my son’s chicken fingers and fries included, needed a healthy dash of salt. Seems like salt isn’t used in the kitchen. Good spot.

Meh is all I can say about this diner. Service was inattentive and food was… well…meh. When we walked in the host was joking around with his staff and did not acknowledge us right away. And when he finally did he didn’t even greet us… Needless to say we will not be back!

Average diner. Big potions, food was average for diner food but place looks worn in and it is really bright inside.

Love a good diner — who in Jersey doesn’t? — but Chester Diner has definitely gone down hill. Food is lackluster, service inconsistent. People are nice, but quality of food is wanting. Place is wearing, and could do with a good cleaning. Hoping the management team snaps out of it and puts the place back on track

It’s only that this diner is about halfway between two major highways(287 and 80) because this diner is just that– middle of the road. Been a few times and can’t recall any dish that was spectacular or that I had found objectionable. Prices were about what you would expect for a diner in an upscale Morris county town. Worth going to if you’re looking for something simple in an area of high priced restaurants or want to grab something quick before hitting the nearby sixplex movie theater.

I was in the area and stopped in for breakfast. My spinach omelet was ok… nothing special about it. Same with the home fries.

Nothing to see here. Sllooooooooow service, mediocre food, and kind of run down. The booths were worn down through the paint and to the bare wood all of the sides. I got a panini and the bread was terrible and was obviously not pressed, which misses the point of the sandwich. A lot of other options in the area, I regret not choosing one of them.

Good NJ style diner. I usually get the tuna triple decker with an order of cheese fries. Kids love the chicken fingers that seem home made and if they aren’t they are the biggest chicken fingers around. We also like the cobb salad and of course breakfast. Good prices, big portions — typical NJ diner.

Perfectly acceptable diner food. Have been eating there since I was little. Open relatively late too for that area.

This place is hit or miss. Lately it has struck out more than it was a hit. Their lunch panni’s are good I really like them. For breakfast its a little meh, I paid 16 bucks for a waffle, 2 eggs, some home fires and a tea. Was never offered a refill on my drink nor anyone else at the table. Either way over priced or they just messed up the order royally. Everyone’s breakfast was about 15 the last time I was there and that’s a little pricey for mediocre breakfast.

driving past the endless outlet malls, big box stores, and fast food joints of this area, i’m usually pretty wary of ever eating in an unfamiliar place. when a town is mediocre, what can you really expect of the food? i entered the chester diner with no expectations– my husband and i were starving and picked an exit almost at random after seeing a half-lit«DINER» sign from the road. on the spectrum of diners i’ve seen in my life, this was one of the best. the wait staff were attentive and cheery, the place was spotless, and the food was delicious. even the bathrooms were crazy clean. everything was quick and cheap– like a diner should be, but rarely is. considering the amount of diners per capita in NJ, i’m sure other reviewers have become disenchanted with the whole concept. they all pretty much look alike and have the same menus. most are three stars, at best. however, this one completely surprised me. next time my husband and i make the drive from NYC to the poconos, we’ll definitely stop in here.

The look, the food, the service is mediocre at best. Nothing to write home about. If you are really stuck and need to eat, than it’s OK. Don’t seek it out for a great meal or you will be disappointed.
