DCH Builders rebuilt our deck three years ago and did a great job. Since then, we have continued to use them on numerous occasions and the results have been positive. Rob C.

Jack-of-all-Trades, Master of None: We hired DCH Builders aka Decker and Strama Builders, LLC. for several repair projects as we like to support local tradesmen. This is not a large construction company, as it seems that there are only 2 people who work full-time. It took quite some time for them to finally get to the work, leaving us in a bit of a pinch as we were also looking to have the house exterior painted before the cold weather set in. The issues we encountered are as follows: 1. Dry-lock basement wall– yes they painted the wall but never cleaned it prior to the application. We have spots that bleed through despite another local application of the material. DCH has no clue how to correct this problem. 2. Repair cement crack — instead of chiseling out the little broken pieces and filling in the crack, they applied a sticky sealant that after 8 weeks remains sticky despite assurances that it would dry. They have failed to address and correct the problem. 3. Garage floor cleaning — the garage floor was power washed with acid several times to remove stains. After numerous attempts to get the floor clean, they gave up. The floor was a mess with numerous streaks throughout. DCH had no idea what to do next. We had another company have a look. They applied a degreaser and lo and behold we had a clean floor. DCH had suggested the only way to have a nice looking floor was to apply an epoxy coat for an extra $ 1800. The other company that successfully cleaned the floor applied the epoxy for $ 600 less. 4. Cedar shake roof cleaning — aside from too a high a pressure on the power wash, DCH was unsure of what type of material was needed to be applied to rid the cedar shakes of moss. DCH called around for suggestions and came up with some liquid application that was to be applied and left in place for several weeks and was supposed to kill off the moss and prevent recurrence for some time. DCH confessed that they themselves did not know much about this liquid nor the best way to treat a cedar shake roof — all this just prior to climbing up on the roof for the treatment. Needless to say, after 6 weeks, the moss was and is still there. We have called DCH numerous times asking them to come by to address the above issues and remedy the problems. We had one call back when we were out. We have repeatedly called back and emailed to no avail. It is not clear whether or not DCH will stand by their work. If they are spurred to respond and set things right, this post will be updated. We certainly do not wish to badmouth a reputable company. However, at this point in time, the reputation of DCH Builders is sketchy at best. We are considering filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau…
