Friendly’s

The food was cold and the cheese wasn’t melted, the ordering took forever, they were yelling all sorts of profanity in the kitchen. There were groups of people who were seated after us and served before us. One waitress ran into my girlfriend and didn’t acknowledge she did anything. What a mess… Eat elsewhere if possible.

Our server was wonderful, food was horrible. Staff was screaming profanities in the kitchen. Table beside us found chucks of glass in food. Fun times.

Oh Friendly’s how I pine for thee. I live in Texas now, but I’m pretty sure that all my best childhood memories took place in a Friendly’s.
I don’t care that you’re a little dirty. I don’t care that it’ll take an hour to get my food. I don’t care that you smell a little like old socks. You’re the old flame I just never got over, and I love your fishamajigs and melted sundaes still. Always will!

Dreadful, horrible, bad. They took 15 minutes just to take our order. We ordered ice cream and that was it. 30 minutes later, we got it. The ice cream was melted. We got ice cream soup. It wasn’t even that cold. It was a horrible experience. The waiter was a smart ass. The place was filthy. Only gave them a one star because I can’t go any lower.

I miss Friendlys… ours in Hampton Roads went bye, bye.
On a weekend trip out of town with my son for a swim meet this ended up hitting the spot. Location was perfect for us by the Fairfield Inn Hotel. We went there a few times, so I will summarize to some extent.
Cleanliness on all visits was fine exterior of the restaurant. Interior not so much with debris on the floor and slow to clear tables. The carpets need a good cleaning, but replacing them best. I would give them a 2 here.
Food on all visit was what we expected and great. My son had the bacon cheeseburger a few times. I had the philly steak burger and we both had a few shakes. Of course the ice-​cream is the best thing about them I think. However the food is a solid three.
Service by Lou on all visits was friendly and as efficient as it could be with the kitchen being a little behind due to crowds. I would say a 5 and deserved.
This is the hotel I usually stay at when traveling to the area, but this is the first time visiting them. I think a 3 seems fitting and will look forward to returning.

15 years ago, my eldest asked to go here for her birthday. It took FOREVER and I swore never to go back. About 7 years ago, my eldest was living in town, going to school, and guess where she got a job. I wasn’t a fan but I went anyway. Now I have been back in town for a few months and visited a few times with my senior relatives. No one will be more surprised than me to find that I am now a fan. Tuna Supermelt — Yummy. Tuna salad rolls — Yummy. Ice cream — Oh man! Had a couple of orange sherbet Slammers made with Sprite (at my request). Delish! Tonight I had a two scoop sundae with hot fudge that just about did me in. It was That Good. Favorites of my family — the big salads, the turkey dinner and meatloaf. All the wait staff have been Very Attentive, and yes, I will say it, Friendly. Give it a try folks. You might be surprised.

My wife loves the food and nostalgia of Friendly’s (she went there often as a kid) but I just can’t get past the horrible customer service that is consistent with every Friendly’s I have ever been to. This location is no exception. Slow service and rude servers keep me from coming back.

Horrible experience! Took 20 minutes to take our order. Try to get the the two for twenty, my bf wanted the honey bbq crispy chicken tenders. They said that the two for twenty chicken tender wasn’t the same as the one on the menu… Which made no sense. We weren’t the only ones who walked out.
Only go here if your not hungry and you like waisting your time.

I love this place for their ice cream and old-​style munchies. The tuna salad super melt is great along with their appetizers. The décor hasn’t changed since I’ve been a kid, but still plenty of room for friends and family. The hunka chunka PB fudge lava cake sundae and Reese’s peanut butter cup sundae are wonderful if you love peanut butter. They also have a walk up window if you’re on the road and don’t have time to stop and eat. It’s a great place to grab a nice lunch with a perfect ending dessert.

Lived up to its namesake on this visit. I had a bad hangover headache and needed a little TLC before finishing a long drive home. My kingdom for a milkshake done right – Friendly’s to the rescue!
Kelsey waited on me, and when I realized I needed a bit more than a shake, she accomodated my snack hunger by letting me order something small from the kid’s menu. Yes, baby me, baby, please. I was greeted by every server I saw, and while I waited for my chici tenders and apple slices, was asked by each new face if I had been helped. Very nice.
I rarely rate fast-​food restaurants, nor those I’ve only visited once, but as evidenced by earlier reviews, this Friendly’s needed a facelift. Judging from my brief encounter, they received that message and achieved the needed staffing improvements.

Worst service ever! ! ! It was my son’s birthday and we decided to go to Friendly’s because we knew they’d sing to him. Our server was very nice, but only to distract you from the fact that she was completely incompetent! All three of my children finished their drinks and set their cups on the edge of the table with lids off to signal they needed refills. Fifteen minutes passed with no sign of our server. She finally brought our soup and salad and tried to dash off before we could ask for anything-​she was halfway down the aisle before I could call out «excuse me!» I asked for refills for the kids (duh!) And it was another ten minutes or more before she brought them. The food was ok, but when we ordered the kids’ ice cream, I let her know it was my youngest son’s birthday. Fifteen minutes later, the ice cream comes, but no birthday song. I asked, «don’t you still do a birthday song?». She replied «ohhh, sorry! I forgot! I’ll come back and sing to him.» Ten minutes later, when the ice cream is mostly done, she returned and told us everyone was too busy to sing Happy Birthday. Really? ! The place was maybe half full. And what kind of heartless jerks can’t take thirty seconds to sing the birthday song to a 3 year old? ! Disgusting. She also made at least three mistakes on our bill, but the service was so painfully slow (by that point we’d been there over two hours) that we didn’t even say anything. Also, the carpet is filthy. The kids had fun, but my husband and I left feeling angry and stressed. We definitely won’t return.

Haven’t been to a Friendly’s in years. Glad to see all the old favorites are still there. Had a great sundae. Service was fine, restaurant was clean.

I know Friendly’s may not be everyone’s first choice for a place to eat at while on vacation, but I’d never been there so I had to try it out. I really liked it! Great food for people who don’t care about cholesterol! Haha!
No, in all honesty, this was a fun place. I loved the wall mural and the food, and the service was decent. I wish we had a Friendly’s on the west coast, my kids would love it.

This Friendly’s has absolutely the rudest and sloppiest staff that I’ve ever encountered at any restaurant, ever! I even gave them a 2^nd chance. Did it improve? No way. The food was o-​k, quite overpriced. But the service will keep me and family from ever returning. Not to mention it was incredibly slow. Awful. Awful. I do NOT recommend!

Best ice cream in the area, but you definitely pay for it. Found the ice cream counter staff to be very nice. I was the only one in line so service was fast.

I’m not sure why this Friendly’s has a bad reveiw. Of course I came on a slow day, we were the only ones here. The service however was outstanding! We had a very friendly server, no pun intended. The food was excellent and came out fast. Overall a very pleasant dining experience.

Overall the food was good, but it had to be the slowest service in a restaurant I have ever been in.

I used to love going to Friendly’s in NJ, having Jim Dandy’s on weekends. The service was *always* friendly…
Except in Chester, Va! Understaffed for a Sunday and over-crowded…I get it. But come on! You don’t have 3 waitstaff and a «staff of some sort» look at you waiting for a table, and not even acknowledge your presence!
There’s no, «Welcome to Friendly’s,» or «Hi.» Blank stare… crickets chirping… Duh…
Where’s the manager??? Smoking in the back probably; no wonder these workers don’t care.
Other than that, the ice cream was great as always!
