I give the Pizza Stone 3 stars because the staff is wonderful but the menu is tiny and the pizza is the worst pizza I’ve ever eaten. The pizza at Jiffy Mart up the road is better. We gave this restaurant 3 chances. We won’t be going back. To compare this restaurant to New Haven, CT pizza is down right offense. Not even close — I grew up on Pepe’s.

The pizza here was great, I’d definitely eat here again. But the most incredible part is the staff — I left my phone there over a long vacation weekend, and they actually overnighted it to me back to NY! That speaks volumes to the type of people working here :) I was genuinely impressed and am writing this from my phone as we speak.

My favorite pizza place in Vermont. I love it because they have a commitment to local food. We travel 45min from Brattleboro just for the pizza!

The service here is very spotty. Sometimes it’s OK, often it’s plain bad and very rarely is it good. The severs just don’t seem to care and that’s really hard to fathom. Also, the food is overpriced. $ 17 for 16 wings in Chester? I don’t think so. The pizzas are pretty good. The live music on some weekend nights is a plus but there’s a cover charge. Ultimately though what you take away from your experience here is the indifferent service.

Driving through Chester on our way back to CT I typed«pizza“‘into my google maps and The Pizza Stone was the first place to pop up. The atmosphere was very pleasant, food was great. Pizza was thin crust style with tons of flavor. They unfortunately were completely out of wings on our visit which bummed me out a bit, would of loved some wings! If you’re in the area stop in. You won’t be disappointed. If I ever find myself in Chester again I know for sure where I’ll be getting my pizza!

Excellent pizza. Thin, crispy crust, fresh ingredients. Well selected local craft beer list. Lively, festive atmosphere with a wonderful reggae night. Great location for family. This place has a distinct, quaint charm that is not to be missed.

Love this place… as a local, I can tell you one of the best places around, quirky, great music, great food. Never disappointed. It’s a true Vermont spot… letting people be who they are and accepting as such while offering great food and fun.

One of the best, if not The Best pizza places in Vermont. Their focus on local and fresh products is in line with the way of life in Vermont. The local cheeses they use on their pizzas are amazing including maple cheddar, goat cheese, caraway-cumin gouda and local mozzarella.

We were staying in the Ludlow area from out of town and found ourselves at the Pizza Stone. After trudging through mediocre reviews of other places in the area(and landing on basically only this place that offered vegetarian options) our low expectations were pleasantly met with a fantastic experience. We ordered the starter with mozzarella, basil, and capers and then the VT homegrown pizza. My husband and I could honestly say that it was the best pizza we’ve ever had. Waitstaff was good, food came out timely. The atmosphere was also great with live local music! Going back again tonight.

The food is fresh. A gourmet variety of pizza available and local beer! A great casual hangout and doesn’t feel touristy. Also, really great service. Everything was very timely and they always made sure that we were well taken care of. Nothing else I can ask for.

Ok so I WAS going to give these guys a 4 because yes the service is lacking but honestly read the menu these guys clearly partake. The food was absolutely delicious like. out of this world good. Springfield is seriously lacking in places to eat and I would go back here even if it weren’t without competition. The ambience is pretty spectacular and unique. Our waitress was slow and not particularly friendly but whatever my taste buds were beyond pleased and we ordered something from every section of their menu. all delicious.

It’s a great pizza joint. Fresh and unique pizzas including gluten free. The staff is rough and can come across as brash but are secretly sweet. The prices are slightly too high for me to go too often. Have had many of the pizzas, wings, and sides and they are all great. It’s a great place for a drink and love music as well as kid friendly.

The pizza is great, but the service is slow and not very friendly. 15 minute wait just to see a waiter, free refills on soda but they never come back to fill them. Then wait forever for a check. The prices would be fine if it was a 5 star restaurant, but for a pizza joint they are outrageous.

I cannot believe this place is reviewed so poorly. Premium VT style pizza joint fare that is genuinely good with a mile long beer list. Their maple tang sauce is no gimmick: delicious glaze to their chix. Solid, solid crust — probably a consequence of good water. Sauce and cheeses. Best sausage in New England. Major message: you’re welcome.

I was born and raised in the New Haven CT area, the home of legendary pizza places like Sally’s, Pepe’s and Modern Pizza. Whenever we go on vacation, our two boys always want to go out for pizza and we have to tell them we just can’t. You see, when you go to the«best pizza» place on the Cape, in Myrtle Beach, in Maine… it won’t even resemble pizza as we know it in New Haven. That being said, we went to the Pizza Stone to enjoy their beer list and array of taps. And enjoy them we did! However, in the process, we also had some pretty delicious pizza. We had delicious concoctions with slice potatoes and pulled pork on them. The food was fresh, much of of it was locally sourced, and it was delish. The best part of this place is the vibe. From the eclectic décor, friendly and almost-too-laid-back staff, and awesome music, you cannot help but relax the minute you walk in the door. I might go back to VT just to hang out some more at The Pizza Stone.

I should preface this by saying that Pizza Stone used to be our favorite local spot for pizza. Delicious wood-fired pizza with creative toppings and an extensive selection of local beers on tap. It’s not the cleanest-looking eating establishment you could find and the service is far from good(as others have mentioned), but usually the pizza is enough to make us overlook this. However, after the worst service experience of my life the other night, I can honestly say that we will never set foot in this restaurant again. As soon as our waitress realized we weren’t going to order drinks, she proceeded to ignore us for the 2+ hours we were there. Yes, they were busy, but we watched her bring drink after drink to the surrounding tables while deliberately avoiding eye contact and obviously ignoring our attempts to get her attention. We waited a full 45 minutes for her to take our order(at one point she even walked by the table, grabbed a piece of paper off of it and kept walking without so much as a glance or «I’m so sorry, be right with you!»). We had to go up to the bar to refill our own waters and were brought the appetizer without any silverware/napkins/plates. By the time we finally got our check(after having been done with the food for a very long time… and no one checked to even make sure it was okay), we realized that we were being overcharged. The bill was a complete mess — absolutely impossible to decipher what was what — and we had to argue with her multiple times(my husband literally had to chase after her as she fled away to the bar) in order for her to finally admit that there were extra $ 20+ charges on there. And even then we weren’t convinced that the bill was accurate…(I will emphasize again — all of us believe, based on her rude behavior to us the entire night and her initial refusal to re-ring the bill, that this was intentional.) However — even all that wouldn’t have been enough to keep me from coming back. We’ve had that waitress before and knew going in that our service would likely be slow(though obviously didn’t expect it to be THAT bad!). What tipped the scales for our group was the fact that the owner chased us into the parking lot, hollering and yelling AT us for not leaving enough tip for her poor, overworked server(who didn’t have a moment to spare for us all night but yet the second we left, suddenly had all the time in the world to count the money and cry to her boss). Whether we were in the wrong or not, she did nothing by way of offering an apology for the absolutely horrible service or the way we were mistreated, instead siding with her server and making us feel like awful people for essentially tipping what we felt the waitress deserved(i.e. not much at all). I have never in my life been yelled at by the owner of a restaurant and don’t believe that any customer deserves to be treated like that. We tried to calmly explain that the problem was not that the service was slow, but that we were deliberately ignored for the entire night, but obviously the owner was only interested in picking a fight. It’s pretty clear that the owner stands behind the way she runs her business and if you don’t like it, too bad. At this restaurant, the customer is always in the wrong… and that is not the type of establishment I’m willing to support.

Love, love, love. Yeah, the waitstaff can be brusque, they can be a bit overworked. But they are cheery, the vibe is great, the food is fresh, local and yummy. The beer selection is wonderful and it is a not to be missed place. Homegrown pizza and cheesy garlic bread… unless we can get the Hey! Zeus! Y.U.M.

This is perilously close to a meh. I really do love the pizza these guys make, and the concept has merit — but execution/operation is really suffering from bad management(I suspect management is actually nonexistent, but that’s bad!) Slow, sloppy, seldom-sober service. Short pours(as others have mentioned) Closed whenever they feel like closing — glad the Scottish pub is just down the road as you really need a backup in case the Pizza Stone just couldn’t get it together. Staff react as if put-upon when customers show up, if you’re lucky enough to catch them open they still won’t be in the mood. Yeah. I’ll still go, but I won’t go hungry or even particularly thirsty. It’s worth going for the quality of the food and for the Edward, but only if I don’t care whether I actually end up there… so lame.

Amazing pizzas. The gf and I ordered three and took lots of leftovers home. The baked wings weren’t fantastic and burned pretty bad on one side. It’s too bad they can’t get the easy part right, like having more than one server on a Thursday. The server had at least ten tables when we walked in, along with a full bar. There were 4 or 5 guys cooking in the open kitchen cranking out food. Unfortunately, we watched our pizza’s sit there for ten minutes while she ran around taking drink orders. Like Kara says, get it to go.
