We stopped in over the thanksgiving week and really enjoy the brews here. The staff were very helpful. I really enjoyed the local brews. My son who is a beer connoisseur was with us and had quite the conversation with the bartender. He said these folks know their beer and gave it a high rating.

Stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon and it was quiet(although early). I hope that is not a sign of how successful they will be because I truly enjoyed this place and would like to see it succeed. The owner, Alex took plenty of time to chat about the beer and any other topic that came up. You can tell that he truly enjoys his job. The beer was very good. Four selections available either as a flight or by the pint. Apparently they are working on getting the proper permits etc. to do growlers and hope to have that in place soon. Overall a great little place and very comfortable. There is seating at the bar and some comfortable sofas/tables/chairs, giving it a coffee house vibe. The place is in a building with some other businesses and if you blink you might miss it driving through Chester. It is right across from the Holiday market on the first floor of the building. Look for the colorful sign.

Heading up to Lassen for a massive weekend hiking trip turned into a fantastic occasion. Not only were the outdoors activities phenomenal but we stumbled into one of the most enjoyable breweries I’ve cruised into in some time(and yeah, I drink a lot of beer!). The proprietor of the establishment is extremely passionate about brewing and willing to share his ideas regarding technique and development of quality beers. His enthusiasm rubs off on all around him and it shows in the end product. IPA? Hoppy and tasty. Stout? Not as strong as others but very drinkable and smooth. A particularly interesting choice was the very limited(and of course seasonal) cherry stout that ended with a sour cherry note. As someone who usually can’t stand beer with fruit in it I found it remarkable how flavorful it was and how much I enjoyed it. Please just go in and imbibe; I write so few Unilocal reviews but felt absolutely compelled to support this new venture. Go Waganupa!

Waganupa brewing just opened 5 weeks ago across from Holiday market and is a «nano-brewery, hand crafting small batches of premium artisanal beer, only days fresh and made entirely in Chester.» We stopped in on July 4th to sample the beers. Due to demand they only had a limited supply on tap, the Stout, Amber Ale and IPA. We were lucky to get there when they opened as they soon ran out of beer. All three beers were excellent and we can’t wait to get back to try others once they have more beer ready, part of the pains of opening with high demand I guess. I enjoy a good stout and what was on tap didn’t disappoint. The Amber was also very good and a little more hoppy than most ambers but was really good. The atmosphere inside was great, with a good sized bar with comfy stools and several tables to sit and enjoy your beer. The owner was there serving up the beer and was friendly and excited to sell his creations. He told us the beers are carbonated in keg and you wouldn’t notice as the carbonation seemed perfect. I recommend stopping in if you’re in the area, it’s worth it!
