There are times when one is looking to something different to eat and we were in the mood for takeout subs. I was aware of Firehouse Subs nearby, and as it turned out the more recognizable location I recall driving on Olive near Woodsmill /141was at the Forum Center. The one in Chesterfield Crossings off of Clarkson actually is closer so I opted to do an online order and see how things turned out. The website related that since the time I started an online order, my preferred time had to be a little later… no problem… I see this as ensuring orders are managed properly. This was no issue to me at all, actually an indication of process rules in place to avoid delays. I liked the idea of having options to add or subtract to the sub orders individually as well. When I arrived the place was empty(but at the time of the amazing rains) but one employee was cleaning in the dining area and I was otherwise immediately greeted by someone else behind the counter, relating to him that I had a takeout order to get. He related that I had prepaid online and wanted me to see the order charge balance on the charge card swipe screen, and certainly made it a point to ask if there was anything else to add to the order. No issues through the online process and takeout. The place was actually larger than could expect for a sub sandwich location, so surprised given there are fast food places with less space to sit and eat. Bright and clean too. I’m not sure why I never stopped by this place before as they are located within the shopping strip to the east of Trader Joe’s. First impressions are 4-star, and the only reason I didn’t give it 5-star was because tonight I intend to return there again for takeout to see if there is consistency. We were so pleased with the fresh bread and the preparation of two different sub choices under their Specialty menu listing. They accommodated my online request for some sauce on the side as well. They are no Subway… and I mean that totally as a positive! They might wish to add a third type of bread to the regimen felt to be a favorite option… dunno, maybe sourdough or how about citzel rye bread? I see they are running a cost efficient business model while promoting a nice product at reasonable prices for the consumer. I would suggest a soup or two, maybe sides with cole slaw or potato salad as well?

I was hungry and in a hurry, as I was going down highway 141. I stopped at Firehouse, this was my second visit in about 2 months. The line to order was short, and the young lady who took my order was super friendly, and courteous. This was not an employee working just because she had too, she actually cared about me and was very thorough ensuring I got the right things. They advertise the brisket as having been smoked 16 hours at a Texas smokehouse. I have been a judge for the Kansas City BBQ Society, and can tell you that the brisket was better than 95% of the contestants I have judged. The coke machine is worth a visit in itself. I don’t want to spoil the secret, but it is more fun than the coin machines seen around, and gives you exactly what you want. The sandwich was hot, and just as advertised on the radio. It was hot, and the young man making the sandwich was fast and efficient, also just like the cashier, very courteous. Great service, a very good sandwich and impeccably clean.

This is my close A-OK consistent quality sandwich shop.(On my birthday I got a free sub w/o joining a club.) It is great for a chain restaurant, but makes me miss the small 5 star delis on St Louis Hill like Eovaldi’s. The employees are nice & helpful. They have the great make your own creation coke machine. They warm up their meats in steamer trays to enhance the flavor vs Subways microwaves(NEVERMICROWAVEMEAT!). I love the hot sauce rack & the included pickle slice. I like the formula… I just can tell it is a formula vs heart. I have never been disappointed. However, I have never been amazed.

This review reflects my first visit. I arrived around dinnertime. There were several people already dining, but the line was nonexistent. I ordered the King’s Hawaiian special, which had 12 hour smoked pulled pork, cole slaw, pepperjack cheese all on a King’s Hawaiian roll. The sandwich was ready very quickly, and it came out hot and delicious. The pulled pork was very flavorful. This is a must try item. I was able to finish it without any leftovers, so you may consider getting the combo or something additional to eat if you are extremely hungry. I will definitely be back.

An unfortunate experience. Let me start by saying I have eaten here many times and have always enjoyed it. However, on my last visit which was 2 months ago, we had company over and I went in to place a to go order. One of the sandwiches was a large«build your own» with specific ingredients for our guest. I picked up the order about 30 minutes before closing time. When I got it home it had many extra ingredients that were not specified when I placed the«build your own» order. Our guest did not take one bite out of his nearly $ 10 sandwich because it was not what he ordered. We called back to the restaurant and spoke to the person who took the order(who we are on a first name basis with because of our many visits). She said they automatically make«build your own» sandwiches«fully involved» which includes mayo, deli mustard, lettuce, tomato & onion. The order I placed was for a meat and cheese only sandwich. She then put the manager on the phone. He said that he would«send us something in the mail» and took our address and we never heard from them again. Because of that experience I have never returned. It’s too bad because I did like the restaurant but I don’t like getting ripped off.

I went today after errands. It was after 2 p.m., so there weren’t too many people in the house. They say, «Welcome to Firehouse Subs» to every patron who walks in the door. They’re not looking at you; their eyes are down. It’s kinda muttered and extremely unenthusiastic. They should either stop doing it or do it much better. The order-taker explained that all sandwiches are served hot. He told me the most popular sandwich overall(Hook and Ladder), and the most popular sandwich in St. Louis(Beef and Cheddar Brisket). I asked specifically about the chicken salad sandwich, and he told me all the ingredients. I confirmed that there was no sugar in it. He said no, but there’s black pepper and a little curry. I ended up with a to-go Momma’s Chicken salad sandwich($ 6.26 with tax) from the«Under 500 Calorie» menu: small-diced chicken, pecans, green pepper, Swiss, tomato and light mayo on a light wheat roll(495 calories). He asked if I wanted a pickle spear on the side. That was the most exciting question I was asked today. When I got home, I found the pickle spear(dill) beautifully wrapped in a recyclable plastic bag that precluded pickle juice from getting to the sandwich. Brilliant. And it was delicious. The sandwich was well-wrapped and secured with a little sticker. The light wheat roll had a great, nutty flavor. I think there were two tomato slices on the sandwich along with the other ingredients, but I didn’t taste the pecans. And I didn’t taste curry. The bigger disappointment was the texture of the chicken salad. The chicken seemed nearly ground. It was too mushy and needed some gumption. I would go here again, but I would not get the chicken salad in any form.

Three times and I will not be back. Waited to write my review until I knew for sure how I really felt. Each time I have ordered take-out. Each time there has been a service issue with basically an empty restaurant. The bread does not hold up to the inside of the sandwiches. Meats do not seem to be of high quality. Only plus is the countless hot sauces, which can be taken in small to-go cups. You will find my at Viviano’s across the street…

Super yummy subs! Hard to choose because they all look so good. I’ve tried the brisket & cheddar, turkey bacon ranch, and New York steamer so far, all of which have been delicious. Their bread is soft and slightly chewy, toasted to match the hot meat and cheese so well! All of the staff were very friendly, accommodating and enthusiastic. The restaurant was very clean inside. There are diaper-changing stations in both the men’s and women’s bathrooms! Parenting win! May have to make Firehouse Subs a new staple…
