Very cool place. The craft beer selection was off the hook! I like that you can mix and match a six pack. That let us try several beers for not a crazy amount of money. Pretty good prices, and the specials were great. The store clerk was very helpful with his suggestions for the different beers. There was also a large selection of wine.

I just left this place a few seconds ago, I’m driving from the east side of Michigan to Chicago and I found this place on Unilocal. All I can say is WOW! The guy worker was really helpful and nice. Told us a little about all the beers we asked about. Said nothing but nice things about the owner. The only problem is I live so far from here! I will be back when ever I make this hike that for sure.

I have to give Pats Liquors 5 stars this is the main liquor store that I visit and it is a Mecca for anyone that is into craft beer. Even though it looks small on the outside it has the best and largest selection of craft beers out of any other store in nw Indiana. Part of the reason for the 5 stars is that the owner/staff are very friendly and really keep you informed about different releases and events, and will go out of there way to help you. Although I would say this is leading craft beer store in the region they do have other selections for people not into craft beer and have different wines and liquor. As far as the craft beer selection it is out of this world and that’s why I come and have been a loyal customer for years. As long as the brewery distributes to Indiana its in this store. So overall all if your living or visiting nw Indiana and your into the craft beer scene you have to stop in and check this store out!

It’s said that beer is the great democratic beverage. It has been the choice of royalty and commoner for ages. This leveling effect of beer is on full display at Pat’s Liquors in Porter where you’re sure to rub elbows with trucker and hipster alike as you search for your favorite brew. The outward appearance of Pat’s doesn’t do justice to the sweetness of what’s going on inside. It is nothing more than a roadside shack that could just as easily be confused for one of the many bait shops that line this stretch of US20. But, inside, crammed into its narrow confines, is the best selection of craft beer this side of the Windy City. Being somewhat beer crazy, I sought out Pat’s because of its reputation for its stock of top quality brews. So, my critique of this place is confined to its relative ability in providing me with a great selection of beer. Here’s how Pat’s stacked up: Local/Regional US Craft Beer: A– This is by far the strength of Pat’s. I have found bottles from regional breweries here that I haven’t found anywhere else. They have an excellent selection of regulars, seasonals, and special one-offs of most regional breweries including an array of offerings from 3 Floyds, Back Road, 18th Street, Greenbush, Figure 8, and many more. Nationwide US Craft Beer: B+ All of the big players are here with a selection of most of their standard brews. You won’t really come across the non-Midwest hard-to-finds, but they have a decent quality nonetheless. Belgian: B– In general, their offerings from Europe are hit or miss. I was shocked to come across a Struise Pannepot hiding out on one of their shelves, but some of the most widely available Belgian standards were conspicuously missing. German: D+ Aside from a few random bottles, this was the only area I was disappointed in. There really wasn’t much here worth buying which was a bummer for a Germanophile like me. Miscellaneous: B I wasn’t expecting much but there were a few surprises. I loved seeing about half dozen different brews from Mikkeller as well as a few from Nøgne Ø. Service: A+ Pat’s is one of the few stores in the area that allows you to assemble you own six-pack from any beer in the store. This is a huge draw for beer lovers who want to sample a variety of beers. In addition, the staff is very knowledgable and helpful. When I inquired about getting my hands on some Kölsch, they assured me that they could special order if they didn’t have it in store. I could go on, but I’ll let you see for yourself. Bottom line: if you love beer, Pat’s is the place to shop.

Nice little surprise for the craft beer fans. Lots of midwest beers and quite a few from Indiana that you won’t find in Illinois, like Back Roads, Flat12, and my favorite, Sun King. Don’t worry, they got Floyds and 18th St. too. Love the mix n match policy, great way to try out a bunch of beers on a budget. If you’re in the dunes, or just on your way elsewhere, it’s an easy stop off the interstate for a quick craft beer fix.

I used to stop here a lot when I worked in Michigan City. Really nice selection of craft beers, and a bargain rack(beers are a buck). I don’t stop as often simply because I don’t drive by it as often. If you are looking for a nice selection of beers, stop in and check them out.

If you appreciate craft beer, Pat’s is a destination not to be missed. It looks small and unassuming from the outside, but you won’t be disappointed once inside. Pat’s is basically a beer museum and the employees are the docents. The owner, Liz, is up-to-date when it comes to seasonal, small batch, and/or limited release beers. If you know you can follow through in a timely manner, she will even hold speciality beers for a limited time if you ask. The wine and liquor selections are decent, but the real attraction is obviously the beeeeeer!

I’m a big fan of pats. I’ve been coming for years, as the managers and cashiers are very helpful with any questions I have on beer and wine. Love this place

My favorite place hands down in the Region to buy beer. Great selection on the shelves and some cold. They carry locals such as Figure 8 and Back Road. They also carry the big bottles of Cointreau that my wife uses to make kickass margaritas. Liz does a great job, and I even think they carry 1⁄6 kegs of beer.

1 Review? Seriously? I expected many, considering Pat’s has one of the best craft beer selections in Northwest Indiana. The store might be small, but Liz packs it full of some of the best brew available. She also has more knowledge about beer than 95% of the guys that think they know what they’re talking about. The rest of the staff also seem pretty knowledgeable, finding many similar brews to those I’m familiar with and enjoy. If you love great beer, and haven’t been in Pat’s…go now.

Amazing selection of small beers from around the area/country plus the old standbys. For such a small place along HWY20 they pack a lot inside. Worth a short road trip from Chicago for those that love variety.
