DePaul University, A. Finkl & Sons Co., Chicago City Council and current Alderman Michele Smith need to make sure his property is removed from the planned manufacturing district and sell the property to DePaul for a new 12,000 seat multipurpose arena and parking. This is the only site in Lincoln Park that is big enough to build an arena on without having go demolish residences as soon as Finkl’s move to he South Side is complete. DePaul has a contract through 2015 at the Allstate Arena, but they could likely have an arena here up and running for the 2018 – 2019 season and could likely get a 2 year Allstate Arena extension if they can make his happen. This is the only location that students living in Lincoln Park Campus housing could walk to. They did no move on the former New City YMCA site before a developer bought it to make a mixed-use development called New City. Cannot wait until the move to the South Side is complete as this will remove the biggest polluter in Chicago from Lincoln Park.

Manufacturing High Grade Steel Since 1879… Hosting Awesome Parties Since 1992. Well, the first part is on their building, but they should most certainly add the second part! I was just here for the Green Tie Ball XX and I must say that it was definitely a good time! I have not been here to see this place as it operates normally, so I cannot comment on that, but I can, and will, say that this is a good space to host events such as the Green Tie Ball. That’s pretty much all I have to say about A Finkl & Sons, for now. Maybe when I’m not so busy being beautiful I’ll get around to writing a review about the Green Tie Ball XX and tell all you fellow Unilocalers about my evening as the trophy sugar baby for a sugar mama. Holla!!!™

Finkl & Sons is the worst polluter in the city of Chicago. They contribute to at least 1⁄3 of the kind of pollution that affects human health. I can’t wait for them to move, though I’m sorry that they are staying in the city of Chicago. I understand we need steel manufacturing, but why must it be in a crowded city? Steel mills should be away from residential areas.

I always ride my bike or walk near Finkl and Sons; its definitely entertaining as you see all the heavy machinery and the heat bursting out from the factory. They have one of the most fabulous events at the end of the summer: GREENTIEBALL.

Once rated as a «great date place,» the Finkl Foundry is a terrific place to get a close up view of heavy industry. For some reason Ayn Rand often comes to mind as I perch on my bike outside the open doors watching the goings-ons. The foundry produces«boutique» steel products and it’s a priviledge to watch the workers pour a cauldron of molten steel into a mold. The intensity of the process is staggering — the heat, the weight, the risk! There must be a Hollywood blockbuster in there somewhere… The Finkl company is also a great supporter of local causes such as «Friends of the Park» and other community groups.
