AMC River East 21

Remember going here when I lived in Chicago loved the ease of the location and the bowling/​bar/​restaurant attached allowed you to get your tickets and go get food before going to see the film.

This theater is great! The seats are comfy, only thing is that the food is expensive but that’s with all theaters.

One star is generous considering. As a cinema the place is passable if you ignore the extremely rude staff. You shouldn’t work in service if you have no tolerance for humans. Management failure to allow customer interfacing staff to spout such contempt at your guests.

This low rating is due to the fact that I usually frequent the AMC on Michigan Avenue which exceeds the River East location on all levels of the spectrum. The seats here are very uncomfortable, the staff on a Sunday morning were not very friendly, and the popcorn was stale the first time I visited. Even though its closer to my apartment, Id rather go the distance and have the better experience on Michigan Avenue

Great Cinema!
The seats are comfortable, the movie selections and times are diverse, and they have a full bar! You can print off your tickets from home, use an automated machine, or go to a booth and purchase your tickets on site. Sound and screen quality is also modern and up to par.
The location is very cool! Before or afterwards, you can play pool or bowl at Lucky Strike, right there, or go for a walk to Navy Pier, as well as down the street to River North and enjoy the many great bars and restaurants.

Went for a free movie screening. Wait lines for those are usually by the the ticket check entrance. The theater is pretty clean but could use some updating to compete with some of the newer theaters in the area. I would recommend adding more food options.

It’s a big chain theater — not much to say about it, really! We don’t get down this way often, but they had some programming we wanted to see for CIFF, and it was perfectly fine: good projection, great sound, comfortable seats. The concessions were adequate and the service was friendly and helpful. There’s a cocktail bar, but I don’t really see the point of spending eight bucks on a mediocre martini in a theater when there’s a hundred decent bars in the vicinity. Anyway, if you live nearby, it’s a fine place to see a movie, so go see one!

I had so much fun coming here only because of the reclining seats! I mean… what better way to watch a movie then to lay and watch one?! AMC you are doing everything right. Thumbs up!
I only gave it a ⁴⁄₅ cuz… I support local business. Sorry chains, you don’t get my vote, but you’re still pretty cool.

Place is a dump. Could use some renovations. Just saw a movie there in theater 11 and every time there was a lot of bass in the sound, the vent was shaking and was distracting. Last time I ordered a pretzel and cheese, the cheese was brown and hard and inedible.
Two stars for the staff. they are very friendly and have great customer service.

Many theaters have gone so upscale with near lay flat reclining chairs, server service and the like that it’s hard for an old stalwart like AMCRE21 to snag over 3 stars.
Went last night (Sat 5^th Dec 2015) with an apartment pal (we live around the corner) to see Creed. It was in theater 7, one of their bigger ones, which seats 200+ people and has a large curved screen. The screen and sound setup was excellent but the crummy red chairs that didn’t recline much were reminiscent of a bygone era.
There is a small bar with wine, draft/​bottle beer, and some cocktails before entering the theaters. They «card hard» and you get a wristband and some drink limit like 2 – 3.

Asian Pop Up Cinema, presented by Sophia s Choice, is a new Chicago theater experience showing fabulous personally selected Pan-​Asian movies on a bi weekly basis. Showing a broad range of stories from many Asian countries, the film’s provide a fascinating insight into Asian cultures, cultural and societal issues, both past and present.
After each movie, a prominent Chicago film professor provides wonderful insight into the technical and other aspects of the movie, story, etc. and conducts Q&A with viewers, which had been quite interesting.
On occasion, the directors or actors from their respective countries attend.
Sophia, originally from Hong Kong, grew up in a Hong Kong film family and produced similar events throughout Asia. She was also the Managing Director of the Chicago International Film Festival for many years and is now doing her own thing, which is a lot of fun.

We love coming to this movie theatre! It’s surprisingly huge! We love that it’s always clean and spacious. One of the best parts is that there aren’t that many kids here to ruin your movie experience.
The concessions are expensive as expected, but if you grab a snack from Whole Foods across the street, you can save a little extra $$. They validate parking too, but it still costs $ 16 after validation. I guess it’s not too shabby compared to other parking prices.
This is our go-​to-​movie theater. I hope you like it as much as we do :)

A night out in a venue that can keep you thrilled, boozed, dancing and entertained for hours is a great place, and the recent additions here make it a place worth bookmarking and planning adventures here.
The theaters are kept fairly clean with larger comfy seats.
Sometimes there will be private screenings of new movies yet to be released along with Q&A sessions with some actors or directors involved.

I love this movie theatre. Is a wonderful place to go for a relax night.
They have a bowling and an arcade all in the same building. There is so much to do without leaving the building. There is also a bar.
The movie theatre is pretty nice and clean. The seats are very comfy. The bathrooms are also nice and clean.
Is usually pretty pack probably because of the location. Come early before the movie to get good seats. The food is pretty good Just pricy.

AMC River East is one of my favorite theaters in the city. It’s not quite as luxurious as Regal Webster but I feel that it is superior in almost every other way.
The snacks are quite expensive, as to be expected like most every movie theater. Go to the Walgreens down the street and load up on snacks and drinks for a small fraction of the price!
Lucky Strike bowling alley and FTW arcade are in this theater as well. They deserve their own reviews, but having these two entities next to the ticket booth help with the overall theatrical experience. I showed up early last night to try FTW since it’s brand new. There are lots of games, both ticketed and digital, as well as a bar. Not a bad addition to a busy movie theater!
AMC River East provides a good movie-​going experience. I think it’s one of the better movie theaters in the city and is recommended!

As we watched a storm a The Nothing proportions begin to roll in, and knowing thigs can go from bad to worse out here, we opted to take a detour inside a near by theatre.
The AMC is huge! Itbshares the building with a bowling alley and a new age arcade, but it hase a great amount of screens and a lot of seating.
The concession section was clean and neat and the people were friendly enough… But the issue i had was the ladies restroom smelled. Not like a bathroom but of body odor. Blerg.

This movie theater is getting four stars in my book because of all the amenities surrounding it. For the life of me I still just pop up at movie theaters without checking the show time, so I usually have spare time before the movie begins to hang out. The theater is close to Navy Pier so if the weather is nice will grab our tickets and then head to the Pier for a while. If you’re not interested in heading back outside they have Lucky Strikes located inside on the left and FTW arcade on the right. Also a little further down the street now they have Pinstripes bowling alley.
The theaters itself are nice. They don’t have pre assigned seating like some theaters (ICON Roosevelt), but in some cases I don’t mind. I live so close that normally I’ll just walk up here last minute, so since it’s not pre assigned I still have the chance to get a pretty decent seat. The seats are pretty comfortable as well and the theater is a decent size. Only downfall I would say is the parking. Good luck finding street parking… there’s a lot across the street, but I think it’s close to $ 20.00. Thank goodness I can walk here cause I certainly wouldn’t be driving.

Good location and easy to get to by walking, bus or driving. Parking garage next door. Theater is clean and well maintained. Good variety of changing movies so you can usually find something to see.
As with other AMC theaters, you can buy tickets online in advance, use your AMC phone app to scan in and get AMC points. Costco sells discounted tickets which are abut $ 8. Food prices are outrageous.

Visited for the late show on a Sunday evening. The theater is located one block away from the Sheraton — so easy walk from the hotel.
Came in the watch Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Got a bottle of cold water at the concessions stand and entered the theater. Inside, very nice, clean, and comfortable. About 30 people came in to watch the last showing on a Sunday night, so the theater was not cramped.
Seating was comfortable, audio quality was good. Enjoyable experience!

Chicago is absolutely freezing cold in February. Because of all the excessive walking we had been doing and because my friend had a discount to AMC movie tickets, a movie was the best thing to do that night.
Unlike the theatres on Long Island with the big cushy cinema chairs that recline, this theatre had simple red velour chairs that didn’t recline but they were actually more comfortable than the ones I’m used to. My back did not hurt at all after the movie ended.
They have wallpaper of film actors from big movies plastered down the hallways leading to the theatre. It added a nice charm. Bathrooms were very clean as was the theatre.
On a side note, we saw DUFF. I didn’t think it would be good but I about died laughing.
