While I can not speak to the two negative reviews, I can only say that I’ve found Dr. Lazar to be nothing but pleasant and professional. He makes small talk, inquires about me as a person, and most importantly, helps me overcome my skin problems. He maintains excellent records. While my problem is mild and minor, he always treats the problem as if it were much larger than it really is. He also gave me flexible payment options when I was unemployed. I appreciate his attention to detail and medical guidance.

I went to Dr Lazar not too long ago by way of a recommendation by a RN at Northwestern. They were playing Neko Case and She & Him in the waiting room which made me think, «If his taste in music is a reflection of his personality, this guy’s gonna be just my speed!» Don’t get me wrong, he seemed like a nice enough guy, and the Differin gel he gave me cleared up my skin(he solved my straight-forward problem), but he made me feel really, really uncomfortable. When we sat down in his office, I told him I had made the appointment because of recent breakouts on my face. He said, «Well, if I was walking down the street and saw you, I wouldn’t be thinking about your skin problems, I’d be thinking that I’m seeing a very attractive woman walking toward me. I mean, that’s the first thing that people are going to notice. Not your acne.» Not appropriate. I appreciate that he was making an attempt at a compliment, but it is beyond creepy to hear this from your doctor. But then, when I told him I worked as a bartender, he continued to talk about how, «it’s a fact» that a bartender’s face makes tips and, obviously, I would want my face to be cleared up to continue making money. REALLY. I’m sure that the tips I earn have nothing at all to do with how hard I work or how fast I am. According to him, I just stand there and look pretty and the dough rolls in. He said that(another«fact») there aren’t any unattractive bartenders, or if there are, they probably don’t make much money. Just icky. And insulting. He went on to discuss the various«fantasies» that men have about bartenders. Even to the point that he insisted that men must think about«going home» with me. At this point I was fuming. Which he could see, so he decided to stop his verbal diarrhea about the various other fantasies that men have about their bartenders – first intelligent idea he’d had since I walked in. I left with the prescription in hand, just dumbfounded. I started thinking to myself, ‘That was not okay. That was NOT okay!’ By the time I reached my car I was angry and frustrated. Really? In what universe is this behavior appropriate? I wished I had had the wherewith all to say something directly to him! Needless to say, I will not be returning to Dr. Lazar.

I have never been so insulted in my life. I saw Dr. Lazar on two different occassions. The first time, he didn’t even look at my skin and diagnosed Exema. He gave me a cream and send me away. A month later, the irritation got worse so I saw him again. This time he looked at one arm and prescribed me a pill and a cream(the same cream). I lost the prescription and had to have him call it in to my pharmacy. He chose not to call it it because I waited longer than 2 days and accused me of calling just for MORE pills. With the combination of his TERRIBLE demeanor, and his secretary’s lack of interest in anything that is living, I recommend you stay as FARAWAY from this Dr. as possible.
