Artpentry

These guys are great. Floyd especially: the guy with the exceptional beard. You’ll know him when you see him.
I visit pretty regularly when they’ve got their open studio nights: that’s the Second Friday of every month, along with the rest of that area of Pilsen. Artpentry’s always got something cool to peruse. Unfortunately, Second Fridays are pretty much the only time Artpentry’s open.
This last time around (in January) they were running pretty low on available art: Floyd told me that the holidays had cleaned them out.
And rightfully so: their Lumbeards (wooden arty beards) are hilarious, mostly in that «wha?» kind of way. You can also get t-​shirts printed with them. Another regular installation are their Gentleman’s Boomboxes, which are basically classic old suitcases modified with speakers.
Otherwise, the art available rotates. Good to keep it fresh, bad in that something you see one month may not be there the next.
The down side to this space is that it’s arranged pretty awkwardly. The entrance/​stairs down are right next to each other, so when it’s crowded, maneuvering is a pain. But hey, crowded means they’re popular, right?
