Some of the best years of my life were spent living at the Astor House. The building is actively managed by Larry Ventresca. He along with his staff have been able to keep Astor House running in pristine condition for all the residents. The Astor House was built 1969 as rental apartments. It is 30 stories and has 218 apartments. There are: convertible, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartments for rent, with a total of eight different floorplans. All the apartments are carpeted. The galley kitchens have electric appliances and have dishwashers included. Heating and air-conditioning is included in the price of the rentals. There are floor to ceiling windows throughout the apartments. There is a good amount of of closet space plus a storage locker. In addition two bedroom apartments facing east, and one bedroom apartments facing south have balconies. The apartment building is very quiet and well-built. Astor House does not accept dogs or cats. There is a 24⁄7 doorman and an engineer who lives in the building. In addition they have a receiving room and a dry cleaners located on the first floor for residents The amenities in the building are a beautiful rooftop swimming pool with a sun deck. In addition, on the roof there is a fitness center. Astor House has a well-equipped laundry room and extra storage room for residence. The attached attendant garage is available at an extra monthly cost. Astor House is centrally located in the Gold Coast very close to Rush Street, Division Street, and Oak Street. There is easy access to the beach, shopping on Michigan Avenue, museums, and shows. Astor House is a great building to live in if you are young or old, single or married, with or without children.

This building is old, elevators are old and slow, central air conditioning is not sufficient in the summer. For the apartments facing South it is hell when there is 90 degrees and the only solution management has provided«close your windows and blinds».

I lived at the Astor House for two years while I was in school and really enjoyed my time there. It has all the amenities you’d expect from a high rise in the Gold Coast — 24 hour doormen, bike room, three elevators, exercise room, rooftop pool, laundry room, dry cleaners, connected valet garage, storage lockers. The doormen that worked here while i was living there(Glenn, Marion, Ron, and Keith) were all really nice and fun to talk to. The management office is also attentive. They send a repairman to your apartment in a timely manner. Rents were reasonable, though they do increase every year. I lived in one of the studios on the third floor. The thing I loved most about it were the closets. So… many…closets! In my little studio, I had five closets. I also had a dishwasher in the kitchen too. I never heard my neighbors since there’s concrete between floors. There’s central AC and heat. The whole building is rentals, so there’s a mix of people here from college age to retirees.
