We came by around 11ish and there was a line out the door so we went elsewhere. Came back around 1:30am and the line was gone. The music was great however, their drink selection was not. They didn’t carry Malibu, rumchata etc. When I requested any kind of sweet drink the guy said he didn’t have anything like it for a drink or a shot! Really?! Then I figured I’d ask for the basic cranberry and vodka and they had no cranberry! I gave up after that.

If I could give this negative stars I would. I came in at 1:10 and the bouncer wouldn’t let me and my two girl friends in and was unnecessarily rude to me. The bar wasn’t even crowded. Wasted money on an über to get here.

This bar is terrible. It has a serious identity crisis… is it a night club? A lounge, a pool hall, or what? On a weekend night, the crowd was an interesting mix of people. Bad music, the random pool table, weird back bar and lounge area, and the long, narrow rooms just made it feel awkward. It feels like someone took an apartment, cleared out furniture and dropped in a mix of a diner with booth seating in one room, a game room, and a lame parlor in the back. There is nothing about the place that makes it appealing or sets it apart from anywhere else. The décor is pretty random throughout. It’s as if few college buds got together and opened a bar with no bar, restaurant, or hospitality experience and absolutely no outside advice or guidance(or just bad advice). The owners may have a lot of industry experience and accolades, but they missed the mark with this one. It definitely does not«offer true hospitality and elevate the traditional neighborhood tavern experience» as the bar’s website states. It is trying way too hard to be cool. The first thing you notice when you walk in are the cash only signs, and the rules of the bar. The attitude suggested by the signs set the tone for the people working there. They are rude and annoyed by their customers. There are bathrooms in the front room that are just right there for everyone to take in the smell of them. One of the doors didn’t lock. At one point, someone took a really nasty dump in one of the bathrooms, and stunk up the entire front room. It was disgusting, and the room cleared out(for the most part). We thought it was pretty funny the way that people reacted, and chalked it up to someone making a statement of what they thought of the bar as they made their final exit. It was raining when we left, and I tried to stand under the awning, out of the way of the door, while I waited for a cab. The bouncer asked me to move away from the opening of the door, which I clearly was not in the way of. While this was happening, there was someone smoking a cigarette while clearly standing in the way of the door. I didn’t move, so the bouncer asked me again to move, yet allowed the smoker who was clearly violating the«no smoking within 15 feet of the doorway» sign to remain where he was. The bartender was rude, a total a-hole, and acted as he was annoyed by everyone that was ordering drinks. At one point, he said something along the lines of «come on, some time today»(I don’t remember exactly what it was). Then abruptly turned away as if he was storming off in anger after the drinks were provided. This childish act also included the wrong amount of change being given. He ignored us afterwards, and wouldn’t allow us to ask him it. The bar wasn’t even that busy. He was just angry and didn’t want to be bothered by his customers. I contacted the bar, via email, about the bartender. Instead of addressing the issue, the bar flagged my Unilocal review for removal. I then contacted them again, and the response I received was that had I contacted them, they would have addressed the issue. I’m not sure if it was confusion on their part or not. However, based on our experience at the bar, it doesn’t seem that as an organization, they are fully prepared to handle any type of dialog with customers. The overall attitude of the place, like I noted, is just rude and pretentious. It may not be so bad if the employees were a bit more welcoming to the people who are spending their money and keeping the doors open. I would avoid this place. There is nothing good about it.

Be warned you probably will get lost in this labyrinth of a bar. This place goes on forever and somehow still manages to get packed. I couldn’t even make my way to the bar.

Great places, nice ambiamce, but the staff is beyond rude. Especially the bar manager Thomas. A recommendation to the staff; learn a thing or two about customer service as your customers are what makes your business.

Neighborhood’s safe bet. Cool vibe, good crowd. Never a cover. Although the line outside to get in on Fri /Sat nights might be quite long when they are at capacity.

I’ve only been once and on a Friday, but if every Friday night was like this recent one then Bar DeVille is joining my list of new favorite spots. Having pre gamed hard at another location nearby, we were ready to dance and keep the drinks flowing and Bar DeVille was a perfect recommendation. The Drinks: Strong and tasty. You’re welcome. Kiss your bartender The Music: Yes Lord, thank you. Finally a DJ that’s not getting too creative or cutting off songs as they’re getting good. Good songs, good mixing, dancefloor stayed crowded.

If I could give this bar zero stars, I would. My husband and I came here when it first opened and had a good experience. The second visit, shortly thereafter, was fine, too. Fast forward to tonight at 6:30 p.m. … We started out at a booth, no service. After a space opened at the bar, we moved to the bar. Still no service. This in spite of the fact that there were two bartenders, one of whom was right in front of us. In the meantime, two groups of people walked in and were served immediately. We made one more attempt to be served; when it became clear that if you are not a regular or the friend of a bartender you should forget it, we walked out. We proceeded to Sportsman’s, and are being treated the way customers — whether they know the staff or not(and here we do not as it is our first visit) — should be treated. Big thumbs down to Bar Deville.

The wait to get in was excessively long. After waiting in line my girlfriend urgently needed to use the restroom. She asked the bouncer at the door to let her in to use the restroom with the understanding that she would come back out to continue to wait in the line after using the restroom. The bouncer told her to find somewhere else to go. She ended up having to relieve herself outdoors in an alley because there was nowhere else nearby to go.

Bar DeVille is one lounge I can definitely see myself coming back and frequenting. It’s big. It’s chill. It’s definitely hipster too. We came on a Friday night and it was blasting nearly 90’s pop for a whole hour. Yep, I am a fan. The bartenders here are super chill and are knowledgable about their alcohol. They can make you any drink you’d like just by asking you what kind of alcohol and mixer you like. I did that twice, and had some bomb cocktails as a result. The area in the back is spacious with a DJ, dance floor, and bar. We saw a lot of people getting up and dancing as the night went out, and the music got a little dirtier too. Keep it up Bar DeVille. I definitely want to come back soon!

I go to Bar Deville when: I need an injection of cool I need an incredible Sour Beer(they always have a bomb selection!) I want to play pool in one of the sexiest settings of all time I want to hear a dream hip-hop playlist(fugees to beastie boys) 10 out of 10 — I’ve never been let down.

This place ended up really surprising me. We went here to meet up with some friends that were in town and I had never heard of the place and it’s definitely off of the beaten path a little. Upon arriving, we had to wait in a line for almost 30 minutes, which wasn’t enjoyable and fairly certain it was to just make it seem cooler, because it was not packed inside at all. Once we did get in, though, the atmosphere was great. It had a hipster /relaxed /outdoorsy vibe. The beer list was great and there was a really awesome dance room(that was packed) in the back of the bar. I will definitely be remembering this place!

What a diamond in the rough this place is! Honestly, it’s in the middle of nowhere and is barely even marked… just look for all of the people waiting out front. It’s one of my new favorite spots in the city. There’s multiple rooms that give you whatever atmosphere you desire: typical bar up front, pool tables in the middle, and a club/dance room in back. The crowd is always very mixed but it never feels bro-ish or douchey… everyone is always having a good time without being obnoxious. Yes, it’s cash only, but that’s fine by me. The drinks are priced reasonably and are actually made quite well; my date had a gimlet and enjoyed it, and I thought their Moscow Mule was pretty solid(though not the greatest I’ve ever had). There’s a handful of quality beer choices on tap — Zombie Dust was available on my first visit.

Just came here for the very first time on Saturday. I almost did not go, but I am glad I did. I got there close to 1am, so the place was full, but not packed. When I walked in it reminded me of Red Door bar, the layout of these places are so similar to each other. Met up with friends at the bar area, and ordered a moscow mule and it was great, even when they did not serve it in a copper mug. After a while I discovered the place has different rooms, the center one with a pool table that I think is beautiful, and the back room where everyone is more into dancing than talking. I had a great night overall. The music is great, and so are the bartenders, you actually don’t have to wait like 10 minutes every time you want a drink. The place is cash only, but they have an ATM.

This is a great bar, though you might not know it from its unassuming street presence. Tucked away on Damen, just south of Chicago Ave., this bar is part dive, part comfy cocktail lounge, part old-school pool tavern. And evidently part dance club, though I didn’t personally see that in action. First, we sat at the front bar. The burly bearded bartender was a little gruff, but seemed to have a heart of gold(or at least denim) beneath the surface. After letting us know there wasn’t a «cocktail menu»(boy, did I feel like a snoot), he asked what our favorite spirit was, and whipped up two very delicious old fashioneds. I kept returning to these as the night progressed, while my bf switched to beer …(wimpy). Prices weren’t too bad for the quality of the drink. We stumbled across the pool table when in search of the bathroom and had a lovely time, playing a(terrible) game. We were there pretty early, so didn’t have competition for the table or the cozy, well-worn chairs that outfitted the pool room. And the games were free(just had to give a driver’s license as collateral. What a deal! Beyond THAT was another room that had the vibe of a very old-school nightclub, boasting an unapologetically vintage dance floor. It was empty when we were there, but my guess is it gets lively as the night moves toward dawn, and there is an additional bar in that area to serve that section’s guests. Cash only, and they open at 5 p.m., so not much day drinking can happen here. Which is a pity.

There is a platinum blonde chick that works here and I think her name is Shiloh… well anyways she’s rad and if you’re lucky enough you’ll have her as your waitress /server! I’ve become a regular here and even on the busiest nights she is extremely accommodating and makes sure that everyone is happy! There was a specific time that I even remember after multiple shots/drinks/beer etc. I was trying to utilize the photo booth(definitely one of the perks + reasons I like this bar that much more) but couldn’t get it to start and who came to the rescue… Shiloh! She helped me figure out what was wrong and got it to work so my friends and I could use it. I thought that was super cool of her, then off to the back room I went to dance! I love the layout of this bar and how each room kind of gives of a different vibe along with different sounds/music. If you can snag a seated area in the back bar you’ll be golden and should never let it go! Some people are saying drinks are tough to get on here, totally disagree.(thanks Shiloh)!! I think this bar has character and i’ve never had a bad time, let the good times continue!

Had myself a grand olé’ time in this bar. It’s quite hard to get the bar+lounge+dance combination down to a T, but DeVille does it pretty well. The décor is lovely and the layout is well designed. The separation between the main bar and the dance floor by a pool table lounge area is a nice touch. The vibe is fun and unpretentious. The music was great. I am one of those who can dance to 90’s hip hop all day, every day. Not sure if different nights have different themes, but friday was my lucky night. The drinks are good but I wished they took credit cards, which is one of the only pitfalls. It is not often that I get disappointed when a place has a last call at 2am, but there are exceptions. This is one of them.

This place is huge. It is a really big space for such an unassuming corner south of Ukrainian Village. The front looks like a solid bar, then you have the pool room, and then like a little nightclub area in the back. The interior is really well done here and they have one of the best pool tables I’ve ever seen. But that’s about it. I was disappointed to find out they don’t have a cocktail menu(sound like laziness to me) and their beer selection was a bit pricy. Customer service was not too great but maybe I just went on an off night. I wouldn’t come out this way again to come here but if you happen to be in the area, this is definitely not your worst option.

Let me preface this with… I have been in this bar before… it has nothing to offer in terms of convenience, service, or entertainment… I have no patience for lines… we were going to meet up with a birthday party that was going to start at deville and end at neos… My girlfriend and I worked all day and subsequently both our phones had lost charge. Upon arriving to deville I just wanted to see if the party was there before we had to stand in a 30 person deep line to get. (Seriously why is there a 30 person deep line to get into this place? We left and went to the green mill… a cash only bar with live music and character) When I approached the bouncer and asked if I could check to see if the party-were here or moved on he told me I had to wait… I tried to explain that I would wait if I knew they were here all I wanted to do was look inside. He then started questioning me about having a phone and why I just wouldn’t call… Seriously…the hell with you bouncer guy… all I asked for was the courtesy of checking to see if our party was still at you establishment…

There are too many rules and regulations at this place. The door guy & bartenders are kinda rude. FYI: they do not allow birthday cakes at the bar. It’s a ridiculous policy, were all adults here. My boyfriend has his birthday here, I came with cake to surprise him. They wouldn’t change their minds about having the cake. It’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard! Even the upscale clubs downtown allow cakes and cupcakes. Do not bother getting a hold of them or email them either. They do not reply. It’s very hard to support small businesses when they cannot communicate with their costumers. It’s cash only also! So ridiculous! It’s probably because they can claim whatever they want at the end of the year. Also, the line is ridiculously long. They only allow a certain amount of people in at a time. I use to like this bar, don’t get me wrong. But with all the rules, it’s hard to have a good time.
