i like this space, but i’m biased because my friend jessica’s stuff is up in the front area. the rear current exhibit(don’t remember the artist’s name), places barbie within a mythological context, having her eat/otherwise devour all the«imperfect» ethnic girls. she(as medusa) gets hers in the end, though! it’s a lovely gallery and i can’t wait to see what they curate next!

This was one of the larger galleries we visited during the Downtown Art Walk last night. After being pressed in like sardines at other galleries, it was a relief to be able to look at the art without being rushed or breathed upon. The main exhibit seemed to be 4“X6″ paintings on metal that were displayed through most of the gallery. I found it interesting even if each individual painting didn’t «match» the others. I actually liked the art displayed in the windows more, you can’t miss the striped rainbow(mostly shades of pink) from the corner or the lit neon boxes on the other side.

Yay pornographic art and ‘free,’ cheap wine! Downtown Art Walk: enjoyed the wit and sarcasm in the Villacis exhibit, gawked at the blatantly erotic flower art, and loved the ‘free’ wine. ‘Free’ because they have a donation cup placed in front of the person pouring the wine, and you feel guilty taking their wine without leaving a dollar. I only had one serving of wine, it was half a plastic cup full, the equivalent of a generous shot. Probably for the best as it tasted empty and watered down. I very, very highly recommend the Villacis exhibit, it’s hilarious. You know how some Japanese comics have been based on Japan defeating the US in WW2? The Villacis exhibit is similar in the sense that it portrays the Aztecs defeating the Europeans after Columbus’ voyage. If you’re not into that sort of thing, they have art of intricately placed close-ups of hardcore pornography. If you’re not into porn, they have wine. If you’re not into hilarity, porn, or wine — why?

Every second Thursday of the month, Downtown L.A. always has their Downtown Art Walk. During this time, you can walk into any gallery on gallery row, look at some art, and sip on some free champagne. FREECHAMPAGNE!!! My friends and I had to check this out. Our first stop was this gallery. Awesome art pieces! The main one was by Eduardo Villacis. His exhibition is called«Smoking Mirror.» A very funny and yet mind opening piece. There was this other exhibition that from far away looks like a really cute art piece. But when you focus your eyes and really start to analyze the piece, you begin to realize that it’s not so cute. It’s very… well, you have to check it out. I can’t wait for the next Downtown Art Walk. I also can’t wait to see what other exhibitions this gallery will display.
