This place has been here forever. It never disappoints! A little out the way from my house but worth the trip. I had others but it doesn’t compare. Give it a try you won’t regret it!

First time here, the birreria is the dish you want! Very small and nice atomosphere only a couple things on the menu but you have to get the Goat soup!

Hands down best birreria in the city of chicago! Exceptional service and flavorful birria! A bit far from me but its worth the drive near the indiana border. Well worth it.

I really enjoyed the goat from here. Stop already… its friggn awesome. Stay here or take t to go… either way the food was great. Cilantro and onion with some juices marinating in the meat and the world seems like a better place. A cold Victoria in my hand and I am comfortably numb. My mouth is watering. Damn!

After spending several weeks in Guadalajara last fall, I found myself craving the taste of birria tacos again. After doing some research, I decided this would be a great place to start. It definitely didn’t disappoint. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the prices rock bottom, and the birria was loaded with meaty, savory goodness. My only regret is that I instinctively ordered 3 birria tacos, rather than trying some of the other options. But no matter, as I will definitely be back. You’d be awfully hard pressed to find a meal this satisfying at this price point anywhere in the US.

Do you love eating meat? Do you love eating meat seasoned to perfection? Then Birrieria Ocotlan is the place for you! I stumbled upon this place by accident and have had the pleasure of eating their delicious birria many times since then. The place is unassuming and the customer service is good, but you’re not going there for either the décor or the staff — you’re going there to satisfy your taste buds with the best goat or beef stew known to man. I’ve had birria at two other restaurants in Chicago and neither match Birrieria Ocotlan in flavor or quality of the meat. The recipe is secret but is rumored to contain over 70 ingredients, I’ve definitely tasted cumin and suspect that a bit of cocoa might be another one. It’s also rumored that Rick Bayless, of Frontera Grill fame, has offered to buy the recipe many times. I wish this place was closer to my home, but it’s definitely worth traveling to if you want to give your taste buds a treat you won’t be able to find anywhere else in the Midwest, or possibly the United States.

My first time having goat. It was delicious! Got there early on a Sunday before noon, and the place had ample seating. 15 mins later, and it was packed! The meat in the stew was fresh and the consommé was perfect. I love that they come and fill your bowl up with more consommé or «juice» if you are low. The horchata was good, not too sweet so it did not drown out the flavor of the food. Well worth the trip! Be sure to bring cash, as they do not accept credit cards.

38 years and counting… so you know they must be doing something right.(This is the original Birrierias Ocotlan –don’t be fooled by imitations!) Birria(goat stew) is not such an acquired taste as one would imagine. The meat is tender, the consome is hot, and the garnish is fresh. Not ready for the dish? Try a taco, goat, beef, or tongue(yes! tongue)…you won’t be disappointed. The portions are generous, the prices are cheap. Wash it down with an Horchata(rice water) which is a personal favorite of mine– it’s not too sweet like at most other places. Make sure to get there early on weekends as it tends to get packed and the waiting lines get long. P. S. A sign above the register reads«Cash Only – We’re from a third world country.» :p
